The Varsity Captain stood in the middle of the rectangle of asphalt. What normally was a basketball court was today a hockey rink. And not any hockey rink, but a roller hockey rink. That's right folks, Olesya stood on a pair of black roller blades, slowly rolling forward and backward as she looked around her. Hockey sticks lined the chain link fence that surrounded the area, and a basket of brightly colored tennis balls stood at her feet. As for the pillar herself, she donned a pair of black sweats and a gray beater, her brunette and violet hair pulled back in a short ponytail, an orange bandana rolled up and tied around her head.
Yawning, she stretched her arms over her head an waited. The lunch bell rang a few minutes ago and word had gotten around that there would be an impromptu game today out on the courts. Below each basket ball hoop was a goal net made of PVC pipe and netting, the goal itself about 6 foot long. It wasn't anything strong enough to be a permanent fixture, but it would serve its purpose.
The sun shone down brightly on the court, the heat rising up from the black asphalt despite the crisp breeze. It was perfect weather for some hockey, so game on.

Sano straps his skates on and tries to skate over where the stick are. He begins to wobble due to this being the first time he's skated in months, he then grabs the hockey stick and tries to stand up straight.
"Izumi, Sano present and accounted for!!"
he yells as he tries to salute the captain and falls on his ass.Dammit, is the first day and i'm already looking stupid... he sighs and gets back up.

Sports.
It was an act of will just to drag himself to practice, but Alex knew it was the right decision. In spite of himself, it took him almost 30 minutes to reach the court, after turning around and pausing multiple times. He had to know the people for which the classroom didn't exist, who were so different from him. To do that, he had no choice but to drop into their world. It was either this or resign himself to being at least partially out of the loop--and Alex wasn't about to let that happen.
He hadn't put much thought into what sport he wanted to join; strangely enough, there didn't seem to be much activity on the field in general. But there was action on the basketball courts, so that was where Alex was headed.
Alex noticed another student struggling to catch his balance as he stepped onto the concrete. Good, he thought. As long as there are some other stragglers, I'll be able to save at least a little face. He'd have much more opportunity if he was actually *good* at the sport, though. He'd try, hard, to improve--but he didn't have high hopes. Still, he was far from jealous of the varsity team leaders, the jocks, the scholastic and sports champions.
Alex strapped on his skates, and nodded at the varsity captain silently. Knees locked, Alex dragged himself onto his feet, using his hockey stick for balance. Wobbling at the ankles, he said, with a grin:
"Hey, you guys need a goalie?"

"Izumi, Sano present and accounted for!!"
Olesya looked over to see the new boy skating toward her, announcing his presence before...falling on his ass. Her eyes widened and she almost skated over to help him to his feet but he was already working his way back up. Blinking, she brushed it off and grinned.
"Good to see you, Sano."
She greeted him in a loud voice, looking about for more players. As she waited, the pillar skated in circles around the basket of tennis balls, carefully weaving her skates in and out. She stopped her circling when another person entered, nodding in her direction. She returned the nod, though she didn't recognize the boy. Skating over to where he stood, he asked if they needed a goalie.
"Two, actually, so you're in. I'm Olesya."
She held out her hand for him to shake. If he was going to be playing her sports, it would be good for her to learn his name.

"It's nice to see you again"
Sano replied, smiling at her and looking back to see the one of the two goalies. Remembering that he had fallen, he began to skate around the area to gain the "feel" for the mobility and grip of the skates. after spending a few minutes skatng frontwards as well as backwards he looked as if he was skating for years.

"Two, actually, so you're in. I'm Olesya." She held out her hand for him to shake.
As Alex reached for the outstretched hand, his balanced shifted and he felt himself beginning to fall. Unused to the skates, he overcompensated, thrusting his hips forward and flailing his arms.
"I'm Al--"
Thump. Alex had fallen backwards, directly onto his rear, his legs outstretched with the rolls on his skates left spinning idly in the air.
"I'm Alex," he finished, while self-consciously avoiding eye contact with the Captain. He rubbed his already sore rump.
"This is going to take some work," he said, sheepishly flashing his characteristic grin.
