Fellow 259'ers, here's a pretty simple question. What's the origin of your character(s) names?
1. Riley Davis: One of my friends made an original character that had the name Riley, and I liked the name, so when I created my original character, I decided to use the name Riley for him. The last name Davis, was taken from one of the characters from Advance Wars: Days of Ruin.
2. Ryuu Nakamura: Ryuu means "Dragon" in Japanese, plus, it's a pretty cool sounding name. I took the last name Nakamura from Hiro Nakamura from the TV show, Heroes.

Eh.
I just randomly started throwing letters together a LONG time ago for both Hiroko and Katsuri
I wanted something that sounded asian, and was kick ass.
So Katsuri and Hiroko came out, followed with Katashi.
Say Hiroko Katashi outloud. Its just so bad ass =D

"Kaufman" = Kaufman from Max Payne 2: Fall Of Max Payne---Didn't come out quite the way I wanted him to, but he should be alright.
"Alter Mann" = Rammstein Song. Was first used on the first generation Arcane Academy. Was a lot more brutal back then.
Jonathan Winters = Winters was inspired by the badass in "Band of Brothers"---He was the ideal soldier and a good captain. Jonathan, stemming from Jon, my older brother, is more or less my honor to him, even if his words can stab you. First used on the first generation Arcane Academy, Jonathan Winters character design was originally from the Starcraft series' Ghost unit. A stutter, a bit of a prototype bio-mechanical soldier with mostly human qualities. Based heavily on stealth and other quirks, he was a sniper---Built to self-destruct, sort of as a way for me to explore into the RPing realm.
"Thrush" = Who here remembers reading "The Hobbit"? Anyone? Then yeah, read up on the last 5-10 chapters. He had no speaking parts whatsoever, but he just stuck with me.
"Tuvlan" = Completely made up by me and a few other people who came up with the same letters in that arrangement (Nope, not the first to come up with him). Easy on the ears, don't you think? Very versatile in usage.
Mr. Winklewood = A mixture of "Mr. Rogers" with a bit of the "Teletubbies" names thrown together. And wood, for the innuendo. Kinda like a hard wood that's pissing, y'know? Has always been a pervert. Any and all attempts for me to try and make him "slightly" serious usually end in failure, since thats just not his character---Purely comedic relief.---Or is he? First used on the first generation Arcane Academy. His sexual humor has changed over the course of my usage for him, but for the most part, he remains relatively unchanged.---Except for the high amount of constitution he has (anime-pervert inspired).

David Blaze- Inspired from my gaming name-Dblaze. I first made it because my dog almost died in a fire when i was 8, and a fireman whose last name was Blaze happened to be the one to pull him from the flames. David was just a name that fit well with it. His personality was based on the good and honorable side i believe lives in everyone, but i added a few flaws because every interesting character has a weakness and a flaw.
Andrew Black- Andrew Black was a mix of a few things. Andrew being one letter more then "andre" from Xin, and Black from a poker player i used to watch who happened to win a lot. His character i took from Andre, obviously, for his standoffish nature and his loner mentality. The glasses i picked up from myself- i never used to go without wearing them for months at a time, though now im without them constantly.
Scene- I love his name. Thats all. I got it from my mind. His personality- a younger joker, obviously, though his goals, history, and ideals are far different. His overall gestures and feelings of insanity were taken from joker though.

Oh gawd. Kay... here goes...
Sacricia Emily Lourdes - Interestingly I made this name up. Sacricia made from the word Sacrifice, and I had a classmate named Emelyn so I named her Emily. Lourdes was... a name of a Mary apparition. I created her to be a character who would be selfless by nature; a scapegoat... something like that. Her last name was named after an avenue here in the Philippines called EDSA.
I built her character from those traits plus a few more things, more or less stuff I have experienced in the past. Her history was symbolic to my own, in nature.
Layla Clavering -- My great grandmother's surname was Clavering. And I got obsessed with Layla Serigawa from NANA at this point, so I created her. I made her a Doctor because I'm a nurse and study medicine to some point. I made her a surgeon because I wanted to be an OR nurse. I got her Telekenesis because I wanted her to be functional, despite my intention of her being weak physically. She is a Yamato Nadeshiko (a perfect lady, in the japanese sense)
Haruka Yamato - The Yamato surname was a hint on her nationality (japanese) and Haruka came from Haruka Tenoh of Sailor Moon. Who was thought to be a guy, but was a she. Lulz. She's obese because I am... and probably would've been me if I was Lesbian. LOL. But she's more or less a joke character, who ended up a little serious. :P

-scratches chin- Roxy Marie Love - "Roxanne" hmm I think the movie "Chicago" was on my brain at the time. I wanted something different. Marie is my sisters middle name cause another character has my middle name lol. Love...I wanted the feel of the 60's I guess cause I wanted her to be more of a lover than a fighter, flower power baby lol. But anywhere else you got Victoria Rose (my middle name ) Alexander and Dorothea Elizabeth Rich III. I guess I just love the strong names.

Aureus Hayes - I always try to find a char image before anything else and this was the name of one image on Deviant Art. I didn't end up using the image, but the name stuck. And Hayes just came to me I guess.
Levi Ranson: I stole the name Levi from a 552 oldbie and just tacked on Ranson.

Chihiro Amuri: Chihiro is from the movie Spirited Away (I <3 it), and I think I had seen it for the first time right before joining the site. Amuri from...actually I don't know, I think I made it up because it sounded nice. Funny though, that her name means "a thousand hidden fathoms" from Chihiro and Amuri [hidden]. She's very secretive..ish and keeps to herself. And those who have watched her story and junk would understand. Or something.
Olesya Van deBogart: Olesya is the name of the actress who plays that shy pianist in High School Musical (yeah I'm not ashamed), and I thought it was just so cool. Van deBogart is a creation of my own, I made it from smashing various regal last names together and voila. I even tried googling it and can't find anyone with the name (though I'm sure it exists somewhere). I made it that way because it seems really old and traditional with like, dukes and duchesses or something, and yeah. I dunno. Seemed to fit.
Marina Cassidy: I met a girl at a youth retreat named Cassidy and I thought it was the sweetest name on the planet, so she was the inspiration for that. Marina comes from like, Marine, which is watery. And water makes me think of dolphins which are fun creatures. And as an art teacher she has these sort of off-the-wall creative and fun tendencies and such.
And...since everyone's talking about AA:
Lienn Devereaux: Lienn is a name that I made up, I twisted it from something I had seen once I think, but I can't remember what. Keep in mind this name is like...three years old now, so I'm bound to forget. Devereaux is the name of the Prime Minister from the Bartimaeus trilogy I believe, and I liked it and stoled it. I also recommend the series if you haven't read it. If you can't tell, she's French.
Austin and Aisling Fairfax: Austin and Aisling go together because they have the same starting letter and they are both two syllables in length. They are twins. Or..were twins. I heard the name Aisling (Eye-ling) on TV I think, or something, and Im not sure if thats the way its spelt but that's how I imagine it would be. Austin is just a cool name. Fairfax...just sounded right. I don't really know what to say about that. These poor kids were students of Mr Winklewood's back at AA...good times XD

Post by Delilah A. Black on Feb 25, 2009 10:41:53 GMT -8
The only one I want to really cover is Delilah.
"Delilah", because it's Hebrew for 'brooding', and has some biblical reference to prostitutes and whores (none of which Delilah is, but she dresses conservatively because she fears that she might become just that), "Adele", because it's a pretty name, dammit, and it shows the side of her that is good, innocent, and ultimately female. "Black" is to contrast that, the side of herself she'd rather not look at the side that knows she could become a prostitue if she were desperate enough, that she could kill someone out of cold blood, and that she could abandon everything she had for her own selfish needs. Summary, "Adele"=her good, "Black"=her bad, and "Delilah"=her inbetween neutraility, the turmoil of her soul, hence, brooding.
XD WOW. I never thought of it like that before.
