"Either one is fine, your apartment or where you used to work I mean."
Yeah, it was a quiet time for Emily, despite being with a person she believed that she had feelings for. Though she was supposed to tour him, she was more fascinated with the familiar, yet not-so-familiar surroundings of Long Beach. It was ironic how she felt uneasy now that she was back.
It wasn't long before they reached 259.
That school that changed her from the weird, unpredictable and stoic girl that she was to who she was right now. 42 had the effect of making things rather complicated for the young girl's heart.
And there were many things that Emily had done that she never thought she would be able to do.
And decisions that she feared would rid her of "Unfettered"'s respect.
Ryuu still barely knew how powerful Emily's feelings for Unfettered were. It was significant enough for the girl to sacrifice her life for him. The question of if she would sacrifice her beliefs and aspirations for him would be questionable, but it was actually more possible than Emily would ever admit. It was a love barely touching obsession, and at the same time something that Emily most desperately wanted to rid of.
"... Hey. Do you regret coming back here? ... Because of me?"
He just had to ask that.
"I..."
Emily looked up at the sky, watching the lavender skies as her mind raced through all the things she remembered about being here in Long beach. They were not all good memories, but they were memories that Emily treasured to some extent.
"... I don't know." she admitted. "There's a part of me that's scared, and a part of me that's relieved."
Scared?
Why was she, of all people, scared?
Fear was something Emily barely had. She was typically headstrong, courageous and stubborn. The girl knew what she wanted, and believed what she wanted to believe.
But perhaps, she could be fearing the part of her heart that yearns for someone else?
That almost desperate cry for attention and affection from a certain German that she couldn't move on from.

Although it didn't look like it, Alex was worried about Emily. No matter what happened, he knew that Emily would always hold feelings for "Unfettered." Emily was strong. And because she was strong, she was fragile. If somebody didn't teach her that fact, she would break. That needed to happen soon. Alex's eyes shifted to look over at Emily, as his right eye calmly looked at her. "... I think there's a certain strength that's needed to be able to admit you're afraid when you are." Alex cared about Emily more than anyone else. And because he cared so deeply for her, he wanted her to do what made her happy. If that meant her still loving "Unfettered" and letting her go, he would. It may pierce his heart like a sword, but he was willing to endure the pain, for her sake.
"... Emily." He said, as he released her hand, and stepped in front of her, as he gripped her shoulders with his hands. "... Follow your heart. Follow what your heart says. If it tells you to leave me behind and follow the guy you still love, then follow it." Alex looked straight into her eyes, as his expression relaxed into a sad smile. "I will always love you, and I will always stand by you. You are the most important person to me, and there is nothing more in this world I want, than for you to be happy." Alex let his hands slip off her shoulders, returning back to his sides. It could turn out just as Alex said, but he decided it for himself. Even if her heart never fully loved him... He would protect what he must protect. Emily.

Emily didn't know what to say.
And yet, she was here again, feeling that very same tear in her heart as Ryuu told her these things. Her feelings for him were real, and so were her feelings for "Jon". It was a mere matter of who weighed more.
That was something that wasn't clear to Emily yet; or at least, she was still unsure about it. "... Follow your heart. Follow what your heart says. If it tells you to leave me behind and follow the guy you still love, then follow it."
Ouch. Really; Ouch.
As I said before, Emily was still unsure about how Ryuu and "Unfettered" both weighed in her heart. It was sad, because even if she did realize the extent of her feelings for "unfettered" they would most likely be gone to waste.
This fear of rejection plagued Emily's mind, heart and soul. This fear that made her desire to be perfect.
"I will always love you, and I will always stand by you. You are the most important person to me, and there is nothing more in this world I want, than for yo-"
Emily didn't even let him finish.
She pulled him into an embrace, her eyes already forming a few beads of tears.
"Idiot." She said, clutching his shirt tightly with her hands. "I know I'm still confused about things but please don't say things like that. Not right now..."
...
"... I know all that, Ryuu." She said, "...I... I'm just... too weak to let go..."
Too afraid....

"..." Alex looked at Emily in mild surprise as she pulled him into an embrace, cutting off his sentence. "Idiot." Okay, he deserved that one. He felt her clutch his shirt tightly with both hands, as he smiled sadly at her. He then got down on one knee, now the same height as Emily, and lifted his left hand up, gently wiping the beads of tears that had formed away. "Don't cry..." He said gently, as he gripped her hands in his own, despite the fact she was still tightly clutching his shirt, "I love you. I always will. I won't leave you alone, I care about you too much to just leave without a single word." Smiling gently at her, he shook his head in disagreement. "You aren't weak. Strength and weakness aren't measured only in battle. If you can admit that to yourself... that is a wonderful sign of strength."
He rested his hand against the back of her head, his front hair falling naturally into his eyes, before pulling her into an embrace, holding her close. "Being by yourself... is scary. Being alone... is a frightening way to live." Alex loved Emily. And because he loved her, he would protect her, because she was the person most precious to him. "I will always be here, and if I'm not, just call and I'll come running, alright?" He gently kissed her forehead, before looking at her, his eyes kind and gentle. His feelings for her were genuine and true. And he knew she loved him back, but he only wanted her to be happy. He would never reject her, because he knew the sting of rejection. Even so... I will protect her... No matter what...

"Don't cry... I love you. I always will. I won't leave you alone, I care about you too much to just leave without a single word." Emily pouted. Man, was he really anticipating her to leave him? It was a possibility, Emily could admit that much, but as of right now, Ryuu was the only person Emily could rely on.
The person she knew she loved, and the one whom she was sure of. "Being by yourself... is scary. Being alone... is a frightening way to live."
You think being alone was a problem? Emily feared being alone more than anything, yet at the same time was afraid of company. Human beings were unpredictable, it seems. You can't trust them, and yet you need to. There was always this conflict of emotions and beliefs; more or less, that's what defined Emily as a person.
This never ending conflict that had come from her two-sided love of peace and chaos.
"I will always be here, and if I'm not, just call and I'll come running, alright?"
Emily pulled Ryuu close, right into an Embrace. She didn't really bother to care about the people that were staring right at them. So? What about them hugging in public? Not like they were making out.
There were many things Emily was grateful to Ryuu for. He was, after all, her source of strength. "Please don't tell me you're going to sing that song that goes something like what you just said." She laughed.
Heh.
Though, the worry was still there. It was something Emily can pull out of sight, but it will always be there to haunt her over and over again. It was merely a matter of time.
...
"How about we head over to my place next?" she suggested, "It'd be nice for you to know where I live, I guess."

Alex smiled slightly as he saw Emily pout, it wasn't that he was anticipating her leaving him, even though he knew the possibility existed, but that he loved her so much, he just wanted her to be happy. The fact that he would do anything for her, showed just how much he loved and cared for her. He then felt her pull him into an embrace, as he peered curiously down at her, not caring about the fact that people were staring at them. It's not like this was the first time any couple ever hugged each other in public, and they weren't making out, so what's the big deal? "Of course not, I can't sing anyways." He laughed, as he pulled her closer to him. She was part of the reason Alex wanted to get stronger, so he could protect her, even though he knew she was fully capable of protecting herself.
It wasn't a question of can protecting, it was wanting to protect, but not just in the physical sense, but in the emotional sense as well. He wanted to protect her, so that she would never be hurt emotionally again. He had her, and that was all that mattered to him. How could he ask for any more? "Sure, that's fine with me." He replied, as he pulled away from her, and smiled kindly down at her. He would then let her lead the way, following behind her like a puppy dog, mainly because he didn't know where Emily had lived previously. He looked around the neighborhood they were in with curiosity, looking like a little boy.

Emily would smile, now leading her boyfriend onward from PHS 259 to the road where her apartment was. It was more than likely that Emily would live there most of the time, considering how much of a busybee Emily was.
Now, the streets were brightly lit, and it would be obvious now why Emily walked home from school most of the time. It was more or less because of the scenery that she gets from walking downhill. The ocean was a beautiful sight. "My apartment is around two blocks away from here, Ryuu-kun." She said, waiting for him to reach her before taking his hand and continuing onward. "I'm not so sure I can compare this to San Francisco, but I guess you should feel right at home here in Long Beach."

Alex followed behind Emily like a lost puppy dog, a look of curiosity on his face as he took in the scenery around him. Long Beach really was different from Tokyo and San Francisco. But in time, he would get used to it, just like he had gotten used to San Francisco. Alex was happy Emily accepted living with him, but he was alright with her living in her old apartment too. After all, all her belongings were already there, and there was no point in moving them around. The streets brightly lit, Alex made sure to look up every so often while he looked around, to make sure he didn't accidentally walk into a streetlamp or pole. Not only would that hurt, it would be pretty humiliating as well. He then felt Emily take his hand and continue onward after waiting for him to reach her.
Ryuu-kun. It's been a while since he heard that name. He forgot that neither she, or those he met at 42, knew that he went by Alex now, only those from St. Paragon's or Point Hope High would know it. "I'm sure I'll get used to Long Beach, it'll just take time I suppose." He replied, as he walked briskly for a little bit so instead of walking behind Emily, he was now walking beside her. "But as long as you're here, I'll be fine." He said quietly, so that only she could hear. A few minutes later, they reached the apartments, as Alex stopped in front of it, lifting his head up to look at it, his free hand in the pocket of his jeans. "So this is your apartment?"

"So this is your apartment?"
Emily nodded. "Yup." She said, looking up. "700 Kaleidoscope Apartments; my flat is on the 7th floor." Emily said. Yes, the old building was still there, sturdy as ever. She knew full well how much she had missed this place - the long, tiring trail of stairs she climbed every day, the sunset on her window and even more so a view of the ocean every morning.
It was Emily's dream apartment. Her house at San Francisco wouldn't really match up to that. Emily chuckled to herself and looked at Ryuu, smiling. "Want to see what's upstairs?"

ASlex stared up at the building, considering Emily lived on the seventh floor, the view from up there must be quite beautiful. Alex had lived all over the place, first in Japan, then in Point Hope, Alaska, then in San Francisco, and finally, now in Long Beach, California. Only reason he had freedom back in Japan, was because he had been the son of the principal of the school, and was allowed to go wherever he pleased. It was all well and good, but Alaska had been too cold, San Francisco was alright, since it was where he had met Emily, and Long Beach, he hadn't been around it enough to formulate an opinion on it. Alex nodded, and followed after Emily. Phew, seven flights was nothing to scoff at. Alex was extremely fit, but walking up this many stairs every day would get anyone into shape.
He took a sideways glance at the view, and knew right away why Emily wanted to stay here, the view of the ocean was incredible. He stopped for a moment in the stairwell, his footsteps having stopped immediately, which probably caught Emily's attention, and leaned against the metal railing, admiring the view. "... I can see why you like living here..." He said quietly, as the orange glow of the sunset lit up his face, turning his black hair a lighter color, his gray eyes looking a little less gloomy than usual. Then again, because his eyes were gray, it made Alex look like he was somber and serious every day. It really was beautiful, though not as beautiful as Emily, he hadn't been able to see a sunset like this in a long time, it had been long ago.

Long, long ago... Emily hated these stairs. She would take a break halfway to catch her breath. It was here that she learned to take things slow and to allow herself time to think. It was no wonder Layla had chosen this apartment just for her.
"... I can see why you like living here..."
Emily just smiled. "Layla chose this apartment for me around 3 years ago when I ran away." She said, "I... remember being so detached, and this place was empty."
She looked around the apartment. The movers had already fixed the rooms as she had instructed them to. The keys would be left by the kitchen drawer. Ah, yes. She looked at Ryuu, "Hopefully Long beach wouldn't be too hot for you." She said, "It CAN get quite insane in the summer..."

"... I see." Alex noted, as he continued to lean against the metal railing just outside of Emily's apartment. Two years ago, he had been fighting for his life back at St. Paragon's, and fighting for his friends lives, something that most people his age back then would never have to face. It was something that would stay with Alex forever, and made him realize just how precious life was. You could have your life one minute, and in the blink of an eye, it could be snatched away from you. Really made anyone realize how important their life was to them, and how much they wanted to make every second count. He then pulled away from the railing and followed Emily into her apartment, ducking slightly to get through the doorway, and peered around at her apartment.
Everything was more or less fixed up and put away, as Alex casually folded his arms across his chest. "Hm? Oh, I'll be fine. I've lived in Tokyo, Japan the majority of my life, so I'm used to insane summers." He replied, as he looked over at Emily. Tokyo. The place where it had all started. But there was no point in dwelling on that, the past is the past, and the future is the future. Alex then peered out the window, and saw it was already dark, not pitch black dark, but still dark nonetheless. "... It's getting pretty late. I better head back to my apartment, before I get lost in the dark and you end up seeing my face on the 6 o'clock morning news."

"... It's getting pretty late. I better head back to my apartment, before I get lost in the dark and you end up seeing my face on the 6 o'clock morning news." Emily nodded, prying her eyes from the night sky and looking at Ryuu with a smile.
"Knowing you, that's highly unlikely." She said, chuckling to herself as she went to open her door. "I'll see you tomorrow, then? Text me when you get home, okay?"
Emily would only smile, tilting her head as she the door opened.
After today, things would be a lot more complicated than Emily would've ever expected.

"Heh, oh really?" He teased, as he returned her smile, before heading towards the door as she went to open it. "Well then Ms. Delos Santos there's a first time for everything, ne?" Alex countered, "Yeah, I'll make sure to text you if I don't pass out from exhaustion on my bare minimum bed." He then started out the door once she opened it, only to stop. "Oh yeah, I almost forgot..." He then leaned in and kissed her on the lips before darting out the door gleefully.
"I'll see you tomorrow Emily!" He called out as he ran down the stairs, the dark outline of his body illuminated by the moonlight shining down as he waved up at her. After tonight, things were going to get a lot more complicated, far more than Alex would foresee. But for now, he would revel in giddy happiness like a little boy at the notion he had stolen a kiss from Emily. Hard to imagine this guy, acting like a hyper little boy, was the King of Sarcasm huh? Even kings, sarcastic ones, liked to act a little goofy at times.
