April 23, 1489,
The Rinnegato ... I know only a few things about them. They spread a rumor we were to be harmed if made contact with water. I thought of this as a brilliant mechanism to shake the humans off our tail. Now we all live in Venice, a safe haven due to the location of marshes and water ways. The only other facts I know about the Rinnegato are that they are the first living Vampires, which are to be treated as royalty. They are so powerful and wise; we commoners travel from great distances to hear out what words they have to share. I don’t live in Venice myself, but I’m waiting for the chance of being honoured to bask in their presence. Some say it is difficult to lay eyes upon them. Yet I have heard from a few whom were lucky to see our graces, that they were angelic and had faces of Gods and a Goddess.
What I do not understand, is the human populace. They are utterly spiteful towards us for taking the lives of their kin, yet they bring countless murders down upon the Vampire population as well! Hypocritical if you ask me. They are just in the wrong sense of mind. The Werewolves are no better. God’s Messengers?! I have heard word from some whom met The Rinnegato that Werewolves are only different from us from a mild gene mutation. I don’t understand this “gene” business, but so far the Disciple's word is better than any other in these hard times.
However, I’m glad there are a few mortals with sense. Alchemists have tight ties with us. Our enemies; Werewolves, Hunters, humans, and the Witches, all ban against us. At least some Hunters track down Werewolves as well...reduces some of the competition in the Game of Life.
Our survival tactics have worked, though now each day more mortals are expecting the water fib to be false and now are much more observant of the people which surround them in Venice. The Vampires are no longer safe if humans find out that water does no harm! At least The Rinnegato are here for us to answer the riddling questions of these hard times... and hopefully... they will help us prevail!
To our true and pure race!
