Saturday evening. Alex slowed his pace down to a walk, as he took in deep breaths. He had been pasing by an alleyway, and saw a bunch of guys harassing a girl, and it was already evening. Just like the last time, who would've thought that the guys were members of a gang? And honestly, they looked like they'd wouldn't understand if Alex came and took the girl away from them, which he did, right in front of them. As he watched the girl disappear around the corner, he looked back, and saw all of them scratching their heads in puzzlement. To Alex's utter amazement, one figured out what had happened, infuriated by his loss of prey, began chasing after Alex angrily. Naturally, the others followed after him like a stampede and Alex found himself running for his life. Unlike the last time however, Alex managed to shake them off after cutting through some alleyways, ending up on the main street of Long Beach. Passing by a park, Alex decided to cut through the park, so he wouldn't have to walk so far to get back to the apartment he lived in and shared with Emily.
The fading rays of the sunset shined down on Alex, turning his black hair slightly lighter, as he stopped in the middle of the path in the park, staring up at the orange sky above him. A few clouds drifted across the sky, as the light breeze blew his hair back, his black overcoat fluttering slightly. Lost in his thoughts, Alex did not hear the footsteps coming behind him. Only when he heard a noise behind him did he turn his head slightly, to look behind him. "...?" Was his reaction, as his eyes flashed in surprise. "...It's you..." He said softly, after the battle against the Paladins and they all had been sent to Point Hope High, he had encountered her once back at Public High School #42, but she had been drunk at the time, and probably didn't remember it. After all, he had "died" back at Point Hope, and the only one who knew thus far he was alive, was Matrim. "Reira."

Reira’s black stilettos heels clicked down the paved path in the park. She was wearing tight skinny jeans and a simple, white, corset-like tank top. To complete it all was a black Bench sweater. It was what made her love Long Beach all the more. Warm mornings, hot afternoons, and warm evenings. Screw long, cold winters! Vaguely admiring the scenery, Reira continued to walk, her mind pondering.
She had recently regained a lot of her memory. Unknown people suddenly had names, different places suddenly had memories connected to it, it was just all coming back….slowly. As of now she was still trying to organize all the random info. In other words, it was like being handed a LARGE stack of disarrayed paper and then being told to organizes it in a file cabinet all in alphabetical, and chronological order. To say the least, her mind was chaos! But each day she remembered more and more, so it was getting better nonetheless.
In the distance before her, she spotted a boy. Okay, nothing out of the norm there, this was a public part after all. What was quite unusual about this particular boy though, was the fact that he addressed her by her first name. Immediately she stopped walking and turned to face him. Oh shit…he knew her! I mean, not a bad thing, a lot of people knew her, the thing was she didn’t know them…well she didn’t know them now. She smiled and then laughed embarrassingly.
“Yes it’s me, Reira…but you obviously already knew that,” she said with a grin. “Uhh, who are you again?” She was examining him, trying to connect his looks with a name. Come on hippocampus, you can do it! “Don’t think I’m rude or anything, I was just recently..uhh hit in the noggen.” A lie. “So my memories are cloudy.”

For a brief moment, Alex looked taken aback, but it was of the fact, she didn't remember who he was. Sure, she had been drunk at the time back at their encounter at Public High School #42, and he had told her he was his cousin, when he actually wasn't. But still, he would've thought she'd remember him at least somewhat. But from her tone of voice, she was trying to remember, but couldn't, meaning she'd need something to jog her memory... Just like Matrim had needed back at Point Hope High. "My name is--" "There he is!" A voice shouted out. You're frickin' kidding me... Alex turned his head, and to his utter dread saw three of the six guys come charging down the path towards the two of them. "Don't let the punk escape!" One shouted. "We'll make him pay for that!" "He's dead when we get him!" Taking hold of Reira's wrist, he ran down the path through the park, before crossing the street and down an alleyway, turned around the corner, and after much criss-crossing through different alleyways, emerged back out on the main road, cars driving by.
I'm getting a feeling of deja-vu... He released Reira's wrist and looked up at the sky, the sun was slowly setting on the city. "Sorry about that sudden 100-metre dash, but I honestly didn't feel like taking on a bunch of idiots." He explained, looking at her. "... Right. My name is Kazuya Hikari, also known as Alexander or Alex. You and I were best friends back at the prison school called St. Paragon's Secondary School, before we all ended up at another prison school, Point Hope High. Though you don't remember me, I clearly remember you." Even though Reira no longer had her pink hair from back at St. Paragon's, Alex still recognized her face, heck, when they met back at Public High School #42, he recognized her right away. Two best friends, reunited once again, but one couldn't recognize the other.

Reira gave him a look as if to say ‘You were saying?’ He was going to tell her his name, when all of a sudden he just stopped abruptly. Okay that was weird, but for very good reason. Several angry looking men had appeared out of no where with a bone to pick on this dark haired boy. Great, now she was going to be a witness so some guy get his ass kicked. The thugs weren’t looking for trouble with her, so she could sneak off right? Nope. Instead the boy grabbed her wrist and began running.
“Whoa heey! I’m not a part of this.” She had no choice but to come along. “Oh for crying out loud,” she said angrily, kicking her heels off her feet as she ran along with the boy. There was no way she could keep running in those babies. Shame she had to ditch them. After a long game of keep away, the boy finally stopped. Yay a breather. Her feet were killing her. “Okay, I was not expecting that.” She was glaring at him now. But she supposed he did just save her from some inconvenient trouble, but was it worth it? He better start talking. The good boy did.
“You’re name is Alex,” she said contemplating things. “And we were best friends?” That was very hard to believe at the moment. If they were best friends, wouldn’t remembering him be a lot easier? She remembered Gabriel and Mischa just fine. Heck she even remembered a Riley, but an Alex? Hmm. She was going to say something else when spark went off in her mind. “Hey wait a minute! Did we see a movie together? Y’know, when I had pink hair and you went by the name Red..uh something.”
She was smiling now, satisfied that this was actually going somewhere. Then it all came back. Yay for her mind. “ALEX!,” she shouted, pointing at him. “Holy crap its been a while!!!!” Excited, she glomped him into a bear hug. And here she was going to charge him for her missing heels.

Alex turned his head slightly to look behind him as he heard Reira cry out angrily, followed by her kicking off her black stiletto heels. Alex felt bad for making her do so, and he would pay her back for the heels, if she accepted. After criss-crossing and cutting through some alleyways, the two of them emerged back onto the main road, the gang members nowhere in sight. Alex just gazed back at her calmly as she glared at him, as soon as he caught his breath, he told her his name, and the friendship the two of them had. "Um, yeah, I'm pretty sure that's my name, it is the one I chose, much easier to say than Kazuya." He replied, as he saw the look of contemplation on her face, meaning she was trying to remember him. He then heard her blurt out one of the things they had done in their first encounter, as he smiled slightly. "... Yes, we did see a movie together back at St. Paragon's, and you called me--" “ALEX!” "--Super Hero Red." Alex turned his head back to face Reira after staring into empty space briefly, reminiscing back on that time, only to look surprised as he felt Reira pull him into a bear hug.
"Ack! Too tight!" He pretended to gasp, but he was only teasing her, she wasn't actually hurting him. "...Welcome back... Wonder Girl Pink." He said, hugging back, though her reaction seemed misplaced. Although he was happy she remembered him, the fact she hugged him, instead of becoming saddened, or in Matrim's case, angry with him, meant only one thing: She remembered him, but only up to St. Paragon's. She didn't remember what had happened to him at Point Hope High. But Alex wasn't so sure if he wanted her to remember what had happened, or, in this case, what had supposedly happened to him at Point Hope. Was it worth her remembering all the pain and sorrow associated with his "death"? But if Alex didn't tell her, and explain fully to her what had happened, sooner or later, she would remember, and it would be even more painful than him not telling her. "... Rei? Do you remember back at Point Hope High, what happened to me?" He asked, as he pulled away slightly from her, as he looked at her. "... Do you remember me dying?"

Oh right, Super Hero Red and Wonder Girl Pink! It was all coming back to her now, in vivid definition. Laughing in happiness, she hugged him, he responding back with a hug of his own and complaining that she was hugging him a little too tightly. Smiling apologetically, she held him at arms length and stared at his face. But she was soon to remember something else about him. Something that she wished could’ve just stayed buried. Hands falling to her sides, the joy that was once in her face vanished and was replaced with a melancholy detachment.
Alex Hikari. Real name Kazuya Hikari. Son of Kane Hikari and brother to Kyoko Hikari. Watched his own mother die. Controls fire. Was the leader of a group called The Enforcement Squad at St. Paragons. Helped Matrim and I escape the prison school. Taught me Tai Kwon Do. Was my one of my best friends. Died. I helped buried him.
His voice broke her reverie of that miserable time back at Point Hope. It was cold that day. Many tears were shed.
“I do.,” she said with finality. Her voice as off. “What did…how are you standing in front of me? Alive and well?! I buried you.” She was extremely shocked, and saddened as she remembered his funeral, but that sadness was quickly being overwhelmed by how grateful she was that he was here, with her, breathing the fresh air. Who cares if he died, what mattered now was his heart was pumping and he just kicked death in the ass.
“I suppose it doesn’t matter though. Welcome back Alex.”

Alex couldn't help but smile as he heard Reira laugh happily, it seemed like he had more somber moments than he could count. His smile changed, however, as he sadly realized that sooner or later, he'd have to tell her about what had happened at Point Hope, as she held him at arms length, though it seemed she already remembered what had happened to him, for the joy in her face vanished instantly, replaced with an expression of melancholy detachment. He had been taken away long before the funeral occurred, so he did not know how much tears had been shed for him. Her reply rang hollow in his head, as he carefully stared into empty space. "... I'll tell you. I'll tell you because I owe you too, an explanation." Alex could tell Reira was very shocked by the fact he was alive and well, when he should've been pushing daisies. "... It's good to be back... Rei." Alex said, as he smiled slightly, before his expression faded to serious.
"... You know I fought against Marquise, the vampire, and was wounded by him." Alex began, as he shoved his hands into his pockets. "While my body did go cold from over excess use of my Qi, just before dawn broke, I was taken away... By Kyoko, by my older sister, and in the place of my body, a body double who looked liked me, had the same injuries as me, but wasn’t me, was left in my place. I was taken to a private hospital, and recovered. The two of us then moved to San Francisco, where I went by my middle name, and created the story I was my own cousin. That time we met... It was me. I’m sorry Rei, for putting you through all that pain and sorrow." He hated lying to Reira, just like he had with Mat, but how he was brought back sounded so incredible, it probably would sound ridiculous. And who would believe it?

It took a moment for his explanation to sink in. Did he mean to say, that the person laying in that casket wasn’t him at all? That he was just some random person…that she was shedding tears for Alex and he wasn’t even dead? The question that then sprang forth was..why? She was all smiles knowing that he was alive, but did he really have to make so many people believe that he was dead? What was the point in that? What the hell did that prove?
Okay, so that was more than one question, rather several. And she did plan on asking them. Yeah, you heard right. She was going to do a mini interrogation. Right there, right at that instant. All barefoot. To add on to the already elaborate story was the fact that he met her back at San Francisco, only he was posing as his cousin Ryo. Ugh. WHY?!!
“Apology not accepted,” she said in that familiar dark tone she had when she was on the edge of being very angry. “Why Alex? Why purposely put your friend, your best friends though all of that…that shit?! We were all so heart broken that you died, yet you had the nerve to fake your death, when really you were alive. When were you planning to let us all know? And what was the fucking point of pretending to be Ryu?” She took a break and shook her head disapprovingly. “What was the point? To observe us and test out how faithful of friends we really were by the amount of suffering we would go through after your so called death? And for so long too.” She was doing the signature, one hand on a hip stance now. “Well, answer me that and I may forgive you. I’m happy to see you alive, but I warn you... If you’re going to go around calling me your best friend, this answer better be good.”
Oh yes, Reira could be that bitch.

“Apology not accepted.” Ouch. Okay, Alex totally deserved that. But instead of cringing at the dark tone in Reira's voice, Alex had a somber look on his face, because he knew how deeply he had hurt Reira with his "death." It had pained him deeply to deceive all of them like this, but his guise hadn't worked out, after all, when he was called Ryuu, he had been mistaken to be Alex. Really, the only thing he had changed, was his name and relation to the Hikari name, nothing more, nothing less. "No, it was never my intention to test how faithful you all were," Alex replied, once Reira had finished letting out all her anger at him, one hand on her hip, "It was to avoid all the media attention surrounding the attack on St. Paragon's. I never meant to keep it from you for so long, but when I couldn't find you after our first encounter back at 42, I gave up searching."
Which was true. Alex hadn't seen Reira for so long, he didn't even know she had a baby, who was currently in the custody of Matrim. Heck, he didn't even know Reira too, had supposedly "died," only to be standing here, alive and well. "Forgive me Reira, for what I placed you through, making you suffer so much was never what I wanted to happen to you, or any one of my friends for that matter. It was simply, the most rational idea I could come up with, until the excitement surrounding the school died down, and I could throw away the guise I had created, and tell you who I was, and what had happened that fateful night and morning, but there was simply no opportunity to tell you when that time came, simply because I had no idea where it was you had disappeared to."

She listened intently to his answer. It made sense she supposed, it was logical, and it was definitely something she could see the clever Alex Hikari do, but in all other words, it was cruel. Still, the explanation served its purpose. And yes, she had had been gone a long time, hadn’t see? A good six months at least. Plus, everyone believed she was dead once upon a time too, but she didn’t purposely do it. Hell she didn’t even give her consent. Demetri just did and took her memory loss as an advantage. For a while, she believed that she had a whole different than the one she knew.
“That’s enough Alex. There’s no need to further explain yourself. I forgive you.” She smiled at him then, punching him playfully in the shoulder. “But now you owe me a drink. Whatdya say? You, me, and some catching up. I’ll tell you where I’ve been these past few months.” Reira gestured for him to follow her and then stopped abruptly. Wiggling her toes, she looked down at her bare feet. Well that wouldn’t do. Ew. They were dirty too. Wonderful.
“I wish I had some shoes. But it would be impossible to find them in the park at this hour…it’s so dark.”
Sighing, Reira chuckled humorously. “Guess I have no choice.” Walking up to Alex, she turned him around and then jumped on his back. “Piggyback time!”

While it was true that his plan had been logical, and it was something that was expected of him to come up with, but all the logic in the world couldn't hide the fact that his plan had been cruel, extremely cruel. But now that he had explained everything to both his friends who had witnessed him "die", Alex felt a great weight being lifted off his shoulders, like he was freed from the guilt of having to put his friends through such pain and sorrow. He returned the smile she gave him after he had answered, telling him she forgave him. "Ack! Hey..." He started to say as he felt her punch him playfully in the shoulder, "That wasn't very nice." He grinned evily at her, punching her lightly back on the shoulder. "Damn straight we need to catch up, it's been a long time since you and I spent time together, and I'm sure you got a few stories to share." He then started to walk as she gestured for him to follow her, but stopped immediately as he saw her stop abruptly in front of him. "...?"
He saw her wiggle her toes as she stared down at her feet. Oh... that's right, she kicked her stilettos off when the two of them ran away from the three thugs. "...Right. Sorry about that. We could go looking for them in the morning, but I doubt they'd be there by then, so I'll get you a new pair." He offered, as he heard her sigh before chuckling humorously. Uh oh, she was plotting something inside that head of hers, and he was right. He saw her walk up to him, before spinning him around and jumped up onto his back. "Ack!" He exclaimed, though he wasn't going to be toppling over any time soon, his arms were strong, despite the fact he used his legs more in fights, as he held onto her legs, and continued down the sidewalk, heading towards a bar he had passed by while exploring Long Beach, Joe Jost's. A few minutes later, he reached the bar, and using his right foot, pushed open the door, and walked in, closing it with the same foot.
He then made his way through the crowd, as he reached the bar, and turning around, gently lowered Reira down on one of the bar stools. He then motioned to the bartender, who came over and asked, "Yeah? What can I get you?" "A glass of Bailey's Irish Cream, on the rocks." Alex replied, as the bartender nodded, and looked over at Reira, waiting for her order. Once she gave it, he turned away without even blinking once, and headed down the bar to help some other customers. "... Right. So what's the 411 Rei? What've you been up to for the past few weeks?"

Reira wiggled her legs happily as Alex agreed to carry her…well he didn’t agree, she more or less made him, but it was his fault she lost her shoes. And to compensate for that he had to carry her, oh and buy her a new pair of shoes. She was a little excited for that actually. “You know, you never should have offered to buy me a new pair of shoes…I could dig a hole in your wallet,” she said a with laugh. “Forget about it, carrying me if perfect payment.” Yeah, she was feeling nice tonight. She wasn’t going to make her friend pay for a new pair when she had a walk in closet back at home just for shoes alone.
Alex had carried her for a long while, never once straining. Impressive, wasn’t someone working out! Then again, she wasn’t very heavy, so she supposed she wasn’t giving him a hard time. Man she missed her shoes….more so when he had carried her into an awesome looking club and people looked at her like she was a weirdo. A weirdo for being carried inside the bar and not having shoes. Eww she really wanted shoes her feet were getting too dirty for her liking.
The bartender took Alexs’ order and then asked her for her own. “Um. Shot of tequila,” she said with finality. Those always got her nice and warm. Alex then asked her the golden question! What had she been up too. Hmm. Did he want the truth and nothing but the truth. Okay then. Giving him an amused look she began.
“Well I rose for the dead and then…haha no jk. I was actually put under a medically induced coma by my father..er uncle Demetri. Matrim thought I was dead and do did everyone else. Only I was happily living in Venice, my memories lost. I thought I had always lived in Venice, couldn’t even remember my past at all, only Gabriel and Mischa. But that’s the just of it. I’m back now, divorced and better than ever. Matrim was a big waste of time.”
Her bluntness was something that never disappeared.

"Heh, oh really?" He laughed, as he felt Reira wiggle her legs happily while he continued down the sidewalk, "Then again, I'm no longer the poster boy for Hikari Industries, so I don't know how much money I... Hey! Please keep all hands and feet inside the train during the ride!" He teased, as they passed by people walking in the opposite direction, a few of them giving the two of them tentative looks, others whispering as they walked by. Alex ignored them, and continued his way down the sidewalk, never once straining, even though he had been carrying Reira for a long while now. But it wasn't just because he had grown stronger, it was also because Reira wasn't all that heavy. Once they reached the bar, Alex pushed the door open and went inside, sighing quietly at the looks people were giving them, partly because Reira's feet were covered in dirt, his fault obviously. He then deposited Reira down on a bar stool and gave the bartender his order, Reira giving hers. Then came the moment of truth! Time to play 21 questions... or less.
Alex listened intently to her answer, as the bartender came over to them and placed their drinks down in front of them, before moving away. "Heh, that's right, the both of us rose from the dead, either we're medical miracles, or we're now zombies." Alex laughed, as he took a sip of his drink, only to lurch forward slightly from mild shock. She and Matrim had been married!? Alex knew he had missed a lot, but this was something else altogether. And now they were divorced, and she had moved on. Same old Reira, blunt as ever. Alex remembered it well, especially back at St. Paragon's. "I guess the both of us did something cruel to him, though yours was not out of choice." Alex said, as he placed his drink safely down on the counter. Alex had no need to say his name, Reira knew whom he was referring to. "I missed hanging out with you, after you disappeared, I couldn't help but worry if you were alright or not, though truth be told, I had other things on my mind." Alex admitted, things involving a certain young lady who had white but now black hair, as he lifted his left hand up to grab his drink, the ring on his finger visible.

“Sometimes I wish I was a zombie,” she said with a chuckle, shooting back her tequila. “Their life seems so easy. Walk around making gurgling noises and try to eat anything that moves. Pretty straightforward to me.” To say that her life was complicated was a serious understatement. Reira’s life was non-stop drama. It was like the thing was naturally attracted to her. Not only that, but no matter what she tried to do, she just couldn’t stay out of trouble either. Woe is me. As for Matrim? Well she had enough talk about him. He was better off without her, always was. And hey, it was no real loss. So, she ignored his statement about Matrim, wanting to move on to better topics.
“I missed hanging out with you too,” she said, “This is nice…minus the having no shoes thing.” It was odd for her to think that he was no longer the poster boy for the Hikari’s. Not that, that changed anything about him. He was still the same old Alex. They sort of switched status. She could remember a time when she was that naïve little girl back at St. Paragon’s, with two cents in her bank account. Now she was a mafia warlords daughter and could use money as a fire starter. Scolding herself for such thoughts, she looked over to Alex and saw the ring on his finger.
“Holy crap, you little stud!,” she said with a laugh. “When did that happen,” she continued, pointing at the ring. “And with whom? Oh and may I remind you that you’ll be tied down…forever. I once made that mistake and regretted it.” She wasn’t trying to insinuate anything, just throwing it out there. “But wow, that’s great!”

"If only ALL our lives were that simple," Alex chuckled, as he took a sip of his drink, "Then we wouldn't have so much to worry about." Alex's life, while it was not as complicated as Reira's was, still had it's share of complications. But despite all the up's and down's he had faced, it still hadn't changed who Alex was. He was still sarcastic and cynical, something that Reira would remember well from back at St. Paragon's. But that was for another time, tonight was going to be a night of two old friends catching up and hanging out. He peered down at her feet when she mentioned the no-shoes part, as he chuckled quietly. The people in the bar were probably wondering why the heck did this girl have no shoes, and Alex could probably try to explain why, but he doubt they'd understand or listen. It was hard to believe, but yes, Alex was no longer the poster boy for Hikari Industries, and in a way, he was slightly glad he was freed from his duties as the head of the company. Thirteen years old was young for someone to become a head of anything.
And besides, the side branches of Hikari Industries was no more, Kyoko had told him that the company had been bought over by who else? The Awrens. Now it was called Awren Technologies. Not that it mattered to Alex, the main branch of Hikari Industries was still standing, and he and sister had inherited their father's money, so while they were no longer filthy rich, they were well off financial-wise. "Hm?" He murmured, as he saw her point at the ring on his left hand, as he lifted his hand up. "Oh, this. Ahahaha, I'm not actually engaged, even at fifteen, that's a little young. It would probably be more accurate to say I have a girlfriend, and the both of us acquired the matching rings from a prank played back at 42 to get the two of us together." Alex smiled slightly, as he casually shrugged his shoulders. "We're together now, but I guess the ring meant more to me than I really thought, so I've kept it on my ring finger ever since."
