Masaru sat in the war room of his Japanese style manor on top of a hill in the residential area. It wasn't alone on the hill, unfortunately. That would make it stand out too much, and Masaru's family had too many enemies. It was an average upper class neighborhood, yet despite not being alone, the "Summer Cottage" did a fairly good job of standing out. A replica of the Himeji Castle, Masaru's parents had the house built there years ago as a secret headquarters. It was now in use by Masaru, as his humble abode. Masaru sent a messenger to invite Gabriel Seran to play a game of Chess moments ago. In a matter of minutes he should be led to this room. It should be a fun day.

The Summer air thus having left Long Beach welcoming in the winter breezes also carried with it a messenger. Challenges had arrived on time, a game of chess was undoubtably the game at hand. Within moments Gabriel was at Masaru's Summer home acknowledging the beauty that it held. Upon entering the houshold his eyes sought out the game board before him. His specialty of course.
"Well I see you're a man of fine tastes no doubt. Shall we begin?" Gabriel said quickly.

Masaru nodded at the Chess game. A custom in America he didn't truly understand. Sure, there were board games in Japan, but Chess wasn't played as much in Japan, usually he played Renju or Shogi. From what he heard though, this was a game of stratagems just like any other.
"Lets see how fine my tastes are, I myself have never played this game called chess before. When I heard about it and its uses, I decided why not? Now, how do we chose who is white and who is black?"

Gabriel chuckled silghtly as he would reverse the board around so the white pieces were closest to Masaru.
"I have a feeling I'm more suited to black if you don't mind..."
Gabriel lit up with a kind smirk playing with the knight taking a certain perspective to it.
"That means you're first."

"I see... I read the manual, lets see if I can get the hang of it?"Masaru didn't know much about strategy in Chess, but he did know the movements, and the object of the game was to defeat the king. Lets see how this worked out. Quite an interesting start he had to admit. Refraining from revealig his precious units whilest keeping the wall of pawns at his disposal. Gabriel didn't take his time with this opening with his trademarked entry. Gabriel would be patient this match having leanred quite a bit since his prior games.

Hmmm. Masaru thought about that move... In their first turns, weren't pawns aloud to move two spaces? Ah, if it had, then the knight would have been able to take it down. As per Gabriel's Strategy's he always had some coordination to follow onward to the offensive. And this undoubtabl would be his opening to press Masaru into a retreat. This was quite an interesting game. At the moment Masaru felt he was getting the hang of it. He didn't know any strategy to the game, yet he remembered how each piece could move... Gabriel could already tell the boy Masaru was quite adept at the game at this point knowing how to protect his pieces one guarding another quite successfully. No easy win here just how he'd hoped. ((OOC: Just noticed my chess trail is dashes )) Now what? Masaru thought to himself. Humm, Offence wasn't quite Masaru's expertise, so he just chose a pawn at this point and placed it somewhere. Gabriel stared at the pawn thinking too much on the matter to feel comfortable about moving forward. After checking the board a few times over he would progress as planned. Masaru saw the pawn come into attacking range. Was it a trap? No matter, This was to be his first game, so he was to make it a game based on instincts. He would reinforce the pawns position. Looking at the playing field Gabriel scoffed. There was one move he'd planned on making but then realized it would lead him nowhere but an even field once moreover. For now he'd stick to reinforceing his troops. This game was getting them nowhere... Masaru didn't know what to do next, there wasn't enough options besides moving forward. Masaru chose a random piece and decided to move it.
