The sound of thunder rattled the windows the the apartment. Soon followed by the pitter patter of rain as it fell against the glass. Kevala rolled over on her couch, those earbuds held snuggly into each of her ear cannals. The sounds of "Paramore" drifting through her mind as she cast a whistful glance towards the window. She loved the rain, always thinking of it as a cleansing for the earth. Not to mention the smell after a good shower was heaven in her book. Part of her longed to be out, walking in the rain, the other thought that not the best course of action.
Raising her hand, she gripped hold of those headphone, pulling first the right and then the left free from their usual home. Letting them fall down onto her chest as she sighed softly, picking up the MP3 player which was currently laying on her bare stomach and holding down the 'Options' button until the light on the screen flickered and then faded to black. Silencing the dull thrum of music which had been escaping the ear pieces. With that, she shifted to roll off of the couch; wearing nothing but a pair of boycut underwear, black in color with no designs on them, and a matching black tank top which stopped just abover her belly button.
As she rose to stand, her bare feet planted firmly on the cold hardwood floor, she moved her hand to drop the music device down onto the coffee table. A soft "clunk" made as it met with the wood surface. It was then that her hand, now free to do as it pleased, moved upwards, pushing back a few locks of raven hair from her face that had fallen down into her eyes. She needed to find something to do. But what? She had already developed all her photographs that she had taken today. All of them hanging up now in the dark room, drying. She had also finished her latest book, tossing it onto the floor next to the bed where it currently still lay. The pages lightly splayed open from the awkward position it had landed in. What else was there?
Finally those feet, manicured and polished in dark purple nail polish to match her fingers, would begin to move. Soft step barely making a sound as she moved over to the window. Looking out at the street below, noting the lack of people moving about. But what would one expect when the skies were letting loose with such a downpour? Pulling her lip up between pearly white teeth, she nibbled upon it slightly. Her arms coming to cross against her chest. The more she looked out, the more she longed to be at least sitting out there. Perhaps on the steps that led up to the apartment complex she lived in? They did have an overhang she could sit under. She would be able to keep herself dry, and still be able to enjoy the smell and the sound of the storm while it lasted.
It did not take long before she had turned away from the window and made her way over to the closet. Pulling out a pair of faded jeans and stepping into them. As she pulled them up and fastened them, she moved across the room. Taking a seat upon her bed so that she could reach under it and grab her shoes. Just a simple pair of sneaker for tonight. As she slipped them on, she paused to take a look about the apartment. Another gentle sigh passing her soft pink lips.
It was not a large apartment. It had a bedroom, but she had converted it into a darkroom. So for now, the living room was split in half. One section her bedroom, the other her living room area. She did have a kitchen, but it too was small. Not that she needed anything bigger really. It was just her anyways. She had only just moved here a few weeks ago and so far she had yet to meet anyone of interest. So entertaining was not a problem for her.
Dragging her mind away from thoughts of her apartment and all the things she wished she could have, she pushed herself up to stand once more. This time a soft thud sounding against the floor with each step she took. Allowing her feet to carry her once more, this time to the door. Reaching into the bowl which was ontop of the table next to the door, she grabbed her keys, tucking them into her front pocket. This action was repeated once more, only this time it was her cell phone she grabbed and stuffed into her back pocket. When she was sure she had all of her things she would need, she reached out. Grasping the door handle and turning it slightly she pulled it open with a light protest offered from the aging hardwood frame. Stepping into the hallway, she latched the door from the inside and then pulled it closed behind her.
It did not take long before she found herself outside, standing beneath the overhang and drawing in a deep breath. God she loved that smell. Closing her eyes for a breif moment she would let the sounds of the rain hitting the ground carry her away. Yes, this had to be what heaven was like. She leaned back, knowing the wall would stop her from falling and then letting her back press against it. Of course, this was done only long enough to allow for her to slide downwards. Not stopping until she had made contact between pert bottom and cold cement. Those jeans doing little to help stop the coldness from seeping in. But she did not care. Drawing her knees up, she placed her arms out and over them, tilting her head a bit to the side and once more allowing those icy blue eyes to open and scan the dark street. Letting herself get lost in the scene.
