Alex sat on top of the raised portion of the rooftop, where all the heating and cooling units were located, as he held a small flame the size of a lighter flame on the tip of his finger. He was bored, and when he was bored, he escaped to the rooftop, the only place where Alex could actually get some peace and quiet. His left foot dangled over the edge of the raised building, just above the door to the rooftop, so if anyone walked in, they wouldn't run right smack into Alex's foot, but they wouldn't exactly miss it either. You'd think a foot hanging in mid-air would make anyone look around, so they'd more than likely spot Alex sitting by himself. His book bag resting behind him, Alex leaned back on his left arm, as he continued to hold the flame on his right index finger. Cigarette lighter? Pfft, who needed one? Alex was the human lighter, and the Flame Master. Anything related to fire, he knew about.
He was pretty much bored at this point in time, and so he laid down on top of the raised portion, his legs dangling over the edge, as he stared up at the sky, the flame still burning strong as ever. Seems he was spending all his time thinking, wondering, and questioning. Thinking about what to do, to help Emily out. Wondering what the future held for this school. And questioning what it was Matrim had in mind for the school, and what kind of "peace" did he have in mind exactly? If it wasn't one, it was the other, and if wasn't the other, Alex was focusing on all three. He had truly grown up in a short amount of time, and truthfully, it wasn't something willingly done, more like he had little to no choice. His feet now slightly below the top part of the door frame, if someone walked onto the rooftop, well they wouldn't exactly get a rude greeting, but it would still be slightly surprising.

It had been a long day, yet again, and it was nowhere near over for Kevala. She still had to find Matrim and Sara, perhaps get some training in. Not to mention she wanted to see Spike, then there was the whole matter of the twins and their doctor's appointment.
UGH!!!
So much shit to do, to take care of. Everything needed her attention it seemed. She had not been to her studio in weeks. Not having the time or the energy by the time she was done with everything else she had to get done in a day.
She needed a break, just a few minutes to get away, a few minutes to clear her head and try and think over things. She had the whole matter of Arthur she had yet to get settled and it was killing her.
She could not handle the matter herself, but she did not know who to ask. She could always try asking Sky, but given her switching of sides, it was not likely that he would help. Then there was Matrim, but he was not somebody she knew well enough to ask such a thing.
Spike?
Well he was still recovering and besides she would never put somebody she cared about in danger. So that left Leon. Heh...NO..she would rather die at the hand of Arthur than ask Leon for something right now.
Shaking her head as she made her way up the stairway that led to the roof. Yes, this was the place that she always tried to escape to. She usually managed to get some alone time, or at least found other people who, in their attempts to escape had made interesting friends.
Though when she opened the door, a set of feet was not what she expected to see. Her head dodging out of the way as she stepped past them. Her brow lifting slightly as she pulled the door closed and then stepped back, letting herself get a view of who those feet belonged to.
Hmm..She had seen him around here and there. Though she could not for the life of her recall his name. Shaking her head at her sudden lapse of memory she would simply smile slightly and speak. Her tone soft and yet holding a slightly teasing edge to it.
"Comfy? Or just trying to nail somebody in the head with your foot when they come through the door?"
She was straightforward most of the time these days. She did not have time to be any other way.
Taking a step back she would shrug her black bag up onto her shoulder, those icy hues, scanning him as she waited for a reply. Okay, so knowing her luck it would not be good, but then what did she expect. Seemed like every time she turned around all she was doing was getting into some fight or another. If not that then she was making enemies more than she was making friends.
Or at least that was how it seemed sometimes. Even if it was not entirely true..

"Comfy? Or just trying to nail somebody in the head with your foot when they come through the door?" Alex lifted his head up slightly, just barely peering past his peripheral vision, and saw a girl looking at him, so that was who had come up onto the rooftop just now. Alex had heard the door open and close, but didn't bother to see who it was, if said person wanted to talk or even lay a smack down on him just because they had nearly been nailed by his feet when coming up, he would've moved. "... The second option." He replied back lazily, though a hint of teasing could be heard in his voice. He slowly sat up, as he rested his left hand behind him and leaned back, his right hand still holding the flame on his index finger. "... Only joking. I hope I didn't actually give you a boot to the head... well, lack thereof." Alex said, as he nodded his head slightly to the girl, he had seen her before, but didn't actually know her name. Go figure.
The both of them knew each other by appearance, but not by name, which was to be expected, 259 was a big school after all, not everyone was going to know each other, unlike St. Paragon's or even Point Hope High. "... Right. I am Kazuya, but you may call me Alexander or Alex, and you are?" He asked, for once, not looking bored or half-asleep, he actually had an expression of mild curiosity on his face, even as he held his right hand up, his index finger pointed up with the flame still burning on the tip of his finger. He knew quite a few people in 259, mostly because he had met them back at 42, but a lot of the other people in 259, were for the most part, relatively unknown to him, he knew them by appearance, but to Alex, that didn't really count as knowing someone.

She noted the flame and could not help but let her brow raise slightly. His words drawing her eyes away from the flame and back up to his face as he spoke. That grin remaining upon her lips as she tilted her head slightly.
She did not know anyone upon arriving here, but she had managed to make her way about and had met some very interesting people. Many of which she cared about a great deal.
She was not the strongest person around but she would still do anything for those she cared about. But it was always fun to make new friends, or at least she hoped to make new friends. Not enemies.
"No, you didnt get me. Sorry. Hard to miss a pair of big ole feet right in front of you."
She laughed softly, the teasing hint of her tone still there as she took a step back to better see him now.
"My name is Kevala. Though most just call me Kev."
She would nod softly and then motion her head toward his hand with the flame upon it.
"Bet that is a real smooth trick with the ladies huh? Get them burning in places they didnt even know they had?"
She could not help it! It was funny! Or so she thought, though she would simply just continue to grin teasingly up at him. She had heard Ren talk about another that had that ability. The guy Ren was apparently head over heels for. Pft!

"... Hey... My feet aren't that big..." Alex retorted back, sounding hurt, but the grin on his face said otherwise, as he saw the girl take a step back, probably to get a better look at his face... either that, or there was something terribly interesting happening behind him, and she wanted a better view of it. "... Nice to meet you Kevala." Alex replied, as he saw her motion with her head towards something, his head following in the direction she had motioned to, before realizing she was looking at the flame he had on the tip of his finger. "...? Oh... I'm not exactly the type to show off, besides, haven't you heard? Play with fire, you're going to get burned." Alex then deactivated his Qi, the flame dying off as he shook his finger, before it completely disappeared. He then grabbed his book bag, before leaping off the raised portion, and landed on the rooftop, right in front of Kevala.
Matrim may have the same abilities, but Alex was the original Flame Master. He had been the master of all things related to fire, and still was, just his Qi had somehow... been reduced in his flame manipulation. "... Kevala," Alex began, not quite ready to call her Kev just yet, he felt he had not yet earned the right to address her as such, "... What brings you up here? Most people tend to shy away from the rooftop, unless they are loners, or they are simply someone looking for some peace and quiet." Alex wasn't exactly Mr. Social Butterfly, but he wasn't exactly Mr. Reclusive either. He was just simply one who liked to be alone, when he felt like being alone with his thoughts, which was something he did frequently these days.

She did not move as he came down to land right in front of her. Simply lifted her eyes upward now to look at him once more. Noting that the flame had gone out. And just for the record, she was thinking about John...the guy Ren was currently hooked on. His little fire trick was....supposedly .... hot. Heh.
But that is beside the point!
Gah!
~stay on topic~
She would let him finish speaking and then give a light shrug. Once more letting her soft tone slip forth as she sighed softly.
"First off...Those feet are massive...Huge...I mean really..where do you find shoes for those things?"
She laughed softly, a soft and gentle tone which lit up her eyes.
"Oh I have heard that saying many times before. Though sometimes it is fun to get close to the flame just to feel the heat."
She would then shrug softly once more and then smiling softly as she thought over the reason she was up here.
"Escaping. That would be my reason for being here. I have so much going on in my life that I thought to come to the one place that I could perhaps get away from it all for a little while."
She would let those icy hues meet with his own and then would step back, turning to look out over the edge of the roof with a soft little groan escaping her. The thoughts of what all was to be done when she left this spot hitting her once more.
She shook her head. No, this was her time to herself. She would not let the pressures of life ruin what time she had to talk to somebody and forget about everything that awaited her.
She turned once more, again facing him as she tilted her head to look up at him. That smile once more there as she let her bag fall to the ground beside her. Her hands tucking into her pockets.
"What about you? Why are you lurking about up here?"

Just as Kevala moved her eyes to look up at Alex, so did Alex move his eyes to look down at her, his smoke gray eyes meeting with her ice blue eyes. "... Ouch, that one hurt," He replied, in a hurt tone of voice, "I just go to any shoe store in Long Beach and find a pair, though I've had the same pair of black Converse shoes for about... oh... 2 years now, give or take." Alex casually shrugged his shoulders, a smile tugging at the edge of his lips. "Well if you can't take the heat, then stay away from the flame." Alex was immune to his own flame Qi, so the day his flame Qi burned himself was the day pigs fly, and swine flu doesn't count. (Get it? Swine flu? Swine 'flew'.) "... Don't we all? Everyone needs to get away from it all, even if it's for a little while." Alex replied as he saw Kevala step back and turn around, looking over the edge of the roof and letting out a soft groan. She wasn't the only one that had things to deal with, Alex had a few of those as well.
He noticed her turn to face him once more, as he looked down at her in mild curiosity. "... I just wanted some peace and quiet. You can't exactly get a lot of it in a packed cafeteria after all." Alex replied, as he continued to look down at Kevala. "... Kevala? This may sound weird, but fight me." May sound weird? More like it did sound weird. "I know it sounds completely insane and out of the blue, but have a spar with me, and maybe it'll help you forget about everything that's going on with you right now, if even for a little while." Alex even pulled off his black overcoat, the mask he sometimes wore in the pocket of his overcoat, but he refused to take his cross necklace off, that was from his sister. He then spread his legs apart slightly, so that leg sweeps would not work, as his right hand came out in front, his left hand tucked behind his back. "Come on, show me what you can do."

She had listened to him speak, nodding softly as she continued to smile at him, then the question came. Spar? Well yeah that was a little out of the blue for her but she could handle it.
Watching as he readied himself she would let her balance settle and then her right arm shot forward in an attempt to hit him in the face.
She never did say she was up for it did she? Well, there was the answer. A spar sounded fine to her. Though she knew that he would most likely kick her ass it was still a good method of relieving stress.
Just as her arm shot out her weight would shift, her hips turning to allow her left leg to come up aimed at kicking him in the ribs.
Unsure if either would work, but it was something. She was not the best fighter on the planet but, she tried. Heh
Despite what happened , and IF he did not knock her ass down, she would back up as her leg came to rest beside the other one once more. Again regaining her balance and letting those icy hues fall over him.

Barely even breaking his stance, Alex merely leaned forward letting the arm sail above his head, as he caught her leg with his free right hand, gazing intently at her, before darting forward, launching an underhand right hook, holding back a bit so that he wouldn't hurt Kevala too badly, this wasn't one of those fight until one person is knocked unconscious type of fights, it was more or less, a friendly spar of sorts. If his strike connected, he would let go of her leg and hop back, easing himself back into the stance he had assumed before. "Again." He said in a calm but clear voice, as he focused completely on Kevala.
In a small way, he was helping her improve in her fighting skills. He believed there is always room for improvement, no matter how strong one is. No one ever stops learning, there will always be new things to learn. He was acting very much like a teacher right now, he wanted Kevala to improve subconsciously, because he too, was slowly improving. Slowly, he was getting stronger, improving on the skills he had already obtained for himself. No one was better than the other, it doesn't matter how strong one is, in the end, everyone was just their own self. And that was that.

Of course he caught her leg and of course that right hook caught her just right. Sending an instinctive little growl from her. But then she was released and he backed up.
Her eyes scanning over him, debating on her next move. It was always so hard to come up with ways to attack those stronger than her. Mostly due to the fact that they were so much more capable of dodging and in her head, everything she threw at them was easily spotted.
As he said to go again she would nod softly, again advancing toward him and this time dropping down just as she neared him, her hands hitting the ground, er...roof in this case, and her left leg coming out, body shifting in a sweeping motion to attempt to knock him off his feet. Doubtful it would work, but hey! She tried at least.
IF it did not work then she would come up, her right arm shooting out to punch him in the stomach. Again, simply trying to land some form of hit upon him.

His right hook brought forth a growl from Kevala, but that didn't faze Alex, he expected a reaction from her anyways. He released her leg, and hopped back, watching as he saw her scan him over, he knew it was hard for those that were less experienced than their opponent, to come up with moves in the hopes of catching their opponent off guard. Alex knew, he had been one of those people before, back in St. Paragon's. He had to start at the bottom, and work his way up slowly. It had been a tough and arduous process, he had acquired many injuries and scars in the process, but he had gotten there. And he was still getting stronger, each and every day. At his command, he saw Kevala nod before advancing towards him, noticing the shift of her body weight, she was going to leg sweep him.
And he was right. Alex was faster than Kevala, and his reaction time was much better. So when Kevala went to sweep Alex, he brought his foot up and would bring it down on the leg Kevala had kicked with. If the attack was successful he would keep his foot pinning Kevala down. "... Nice attack. You have the skills, and that's good. With training, you'll be able to hone and improve on the abilities you already have. No one is born a good fighter, everyone learns sometime in their life." Like Matrim. He had learned the hard way that his shield Qi didn't protect him from everything, at least, not protecting him from a lack of oxygen to maintain said Qi. He then lifted his foot off her leg, and hopped back, motioning at her with the universal sign for "Bring it on," his left hand still tucked behind him. "... Again." He was going to keep her at it, because he wanted her to grow and get better.

She would draw in a deep breath to control her inner anger and demons from coming to life. No, she did not need to let those things cloud her mind right now. His leg having pinned her there for the moment.
Then as he spoke she would nod. She knew what he said to be true, and had suffered much already for the sake of growing stonger. But as of right now, she was still learning. It was going to take forever it seemed but it was something she was willing to go through to get to where she needed to be.
As his leg lifted she would pull back and rise to stand. Those eyes falling upon him once more as she thought over what to do once more. It was all a matter of figuring out the right move. Sure, she knew that she would not be able to actually land anything but she could still try right?
Tilting her head from side to side for a moment she would again advance, this time letting her weight shift instantly, allowing a kick to come toward his abdomen with her left leg.
Only going for one move at this time. Not wishing to push herself too much. Simply take her time and learn what worked and what did not.

Alex watched and waited as he saw Kevala pull back and rise up, after having pinned her leg down for a brief moment. Good, at least she managed to control her anger, anger would only cloud a person's judgment, leading them to making moves that any fighter would not make, were they in control of their emotions. He saw her eyes fall upon him once more, as he looked back at her, never taking his eyes off her for even a single moment. It did not matter if not even a single hit was landed, steady effort is what counted. As long as one tried, that was all that mattered.
Seeing her tilt her head from side to side as she advanced towards him, Alex maintained his stance, watching and scrutinizing her carefully, as he saw her instantaneously shift her weight, sending a kick out at his abdomen. With a simple shift of his body, Alex leaned his right shoulder back, letting the kick sail by, while this happened, he would sprint forward, and extending his index and middle finger out, he would send a strike with his right hand just above the top of Kevala's ribs, just before the plate of bone covering the heart to try and knock the wind out of her. It was best to take this fight one move at a time, there was no need to rush the learning curve. "Again. Keep going. Don't stop now."

Again! Ouch!.....That blow to her hurt like hell. Knocking the wind out of her. Though it did not stop her from shifting her weight instantly and lifting up her elbow and spinning her body in an attempt to hit him in the face with said elbow.
She did not pause this time between blows. Hoping perhaps that would give her some type of chance. Not that it mattered really. She would then turn and step away from him. Those eyes falling over his body once more as she watched and waited. She was managing to keep her anger controlled because she had learned to do such from Sky. If not for the last little torture session with him, she may have well let the anger at herself get out of control. But for now, she was in control and planned on keeping it that way.

Alex smiled mentally. Good, she was getting better. Catching the elbow in his hand, Alex sprinted forward, placing all his power into this strike, because if Kevala couldn't handle even this strike, she was going to have a difficult time taking on other opponents. Not all of them were going to be nice and hold back, some of them would fight relentlessly and fiercely, not giving her time to even breath or think. If his strike connected, he wouldn't wait for her to react, he was going to take this fight to the next level. Without even pausing, Alex would release her elbow and rotate his body, launching a roundhouse kick, keeping his eyes locked onto Kevala.
Alex had learned long ago to keep his anger in check, because he had to, or he would've ended up pushing daisies long ago. Keep cool, keep calm, and don't allow your opponent even a moment to react. Brutal as it may be, but disregard that, and you might as well just throw the fight, because letting your emotions get the better of you, threw everything off. He had seen fighters make stupid mistakes, all because they had let their emotions get the better of them. If his kick connected, Alex would plant his foot firmly down on the ground, before darting forward, and launching a right hook at Kevala. It was now or never.
