Of course, one thing about some fighters is that they assume so much about their fellow fighters. Honestly, Gabriel was no exemption. Emily may not have been as conniving and manipulative as he due to her own state of morality and beliefs, but she had a good head on her shoulders and was willing to pull some strings to get what she believed was something worth achieving.
Bouncing back, is a particularly good trait that most people in 259 shared. It was a survival skill, and Gabriel most certainly did not have a monopoly in that department. Emily wouldn't have gotten this far if she had stopped right when Linda Osako sent her to the hospital with so much discrimination. She would've not progressed this far if she did not work hard.
In her mind, Gabriel was too consumed in his own mind to reach the hearts of others.
Emily knew she was being underestimated. Emily figured, because of Gabriel's own abilities, that he was taking it easy. Part of Emily's mind interpreted that as a direct insult of her own abilities.
He must realize that she had blood that was stained with the evils of the world. She shared this blood with the other six who got tainted with Brimstone that time.
She would never bow to him.
Feeling her body thrown forward, Emily would quickly react by releasing him from her grip. With Gabriel as a threat, it was only natural that she was cautious enough to react this way. She was technically, more experienced than he was.
It was also through experience that now that he was free of Emily, the laws of body mechanics would not allow Gabriel to be bent in the way that he was to prevent direct contact with the canister beneath him, nor would he be able to ignore the absolute strength of gravity itself. He was a particularly heavier person in comparison to Emily, which meant gravity would pull at him harder, making him escaping that explosion particularly hard to pull off. At least withou---
...
Freed, she would jump backward to a safe distance only miliseconds after what would hopefully be an explosion, but explosion or not she would do so anyways; Just until she reached her fan, pulling herself towards a defensive position.
Thing is about being fast, is that the more you exert energy on speed as Gabriel did, the faster he loses energy. Gabriel, no matter how powerful and endurable he is, cannot keep this up. At least, that's what Emily hypothesized.

The thing about People was they thought so much upon their own pride and image that it was hard to take lessons to heart. While Gabriel was no shinning star in this muddy bunch of victims he did learn, and learning quick was his trait. Emily was by far his superior when he'd come to this school. And by that lesson alone he learned under her, taken her advice as someone who was new did. And just the same he learned and fought and grew better, both in physical stature as well as mental repose. The difference was, now Emily failed to understand. Not that she was stupid, or weak, or any of the aforementioned lists of insults normally associated with the pig-headed, but rather because the lessons Gabriel was teaching were those you had to submit to not as a slave would but rather a student. One many had taken to for his lessens and thus grown stronger by implying them. It was her choice and thusly Gabriel wouldn't force her to learn but again that was her own stigma to bear.
Here in this battle they were enemies at arms but did that carry on past this point? It was her own decision yet again. Gabriel had never had any implications against her, rather with her as an equal it was that stubbornness of her supposedly subjugated to him that kept the barrier up. It kept them weak in the end and she didn't see it, blind to an arrogance and showy blanket of faux strength rather than unifying their efforts to a greater end.
Back bending in reverse wasn't hard because a the point he'd finished the move he had a great amount of Dexterity, the movement of his speed and flexibility entailed that he was capable of pulling the move itself off only to land inches away deactivating his Qi and lowering his guard. Something was different about the Gabriel now as their was before, yet another lesson to be learned should the veil of latent hatred or stubborn guise be unsheathed.
"Who are you Emily?"
A simple question, not lacking the boundaries most would ask but above all holding the weight of much more in a duel guided question. Who are you?

Of course, it could be initially said that Emily had a dislike for Gabriel; which wasn't the case. She merely did not trust him. There was a big difference. She partially admired his... tenacity. If anything, she was moderately jealous that he became capable of fighting David Blaze the way he did that day. Ultimately losing, but still here - alive.
Emily could say the same thing about surviving the fight with Leon but--
Emily did not need to become a student, or anyone's student to become stronger. She was no one's disciple. She had her own beliefs of the world, and therefore was bound to very few people. She was neither selfish, nor arrogant; only free.
Then, he just had to ask: "Who are you Emily?"
Just who was she?
Who was Emily?
She was one too many things - she is a broken woman, who continued to be tortured further even through the events following this day. Emily was a girl who lacked a dream of her own. She became a nurse only to compensate for her lack of purpose in life. She was grateful to the woman for providing her with a dream to chase, but was that really what she wanted? No. It was something far, far simpler. Only few people could ever understand what really goes on inside Emily's mind.
"Unfettered"? She loved him primarily because he gave her purpose. He gave her life; a reason to become stronger. A reason to want to become stronger.
Mathew? She admired him. He was a powerful man in more ways than one. He was charismatic and powerful; a somebody.
Who was Emily?
"... I am a nobody." She said, her determined voice betraying her own true beliefs about herself. "I am a Queen without a Kingdom, ... or a King. In essence, no one really important."
She chuckled to herself, lowering her guard for a moment. "I am alone. Always have been, always will be -- only two or three people have more or less convinced me otherwise."
...
"What is who I am, in my eyes." she said, "Everyone's perspective is different."

Gabriel cocked a brow. It didn't confuse him that she acted this way, he'd seen others much like her but it was profound in the sense that he wanted so much to help but rather anything he did was either interpreted as an insult or an assault on her pride. He was not perfect above all things and in that notion he took pride in his inadequacies but this by far was taking it to a different level. To state what was good and whole in the world when you yourself looked inward at nothing was above all contradictory to an end it left Gabriel in a state of stoic nature wavering there no implication to press on with an assault and still not enough courage or cowardice to leave.
Thinking over the years of change in where they'd come from he wondered where the roads split and it could have been easily defined as a change in nature. Gabriel's own was to the few, what he believed as being "Unfettered's" Goal, taking no compromise and siding with the weak and the many becoming their sword in words David would often use for another cause. So were they all so different? Just a miscommunication or rather misappropriation of direction. Gabriel knew his direction it was the same to this very day despite that defying what he'd become just like those he sought to defeat. So in every sense he was as bad as those he fought against. But could the same be told of Emily?
Gabriel watched her road just as he did the others. A steadfast and growing alliance with the Dragon's that beat her out. The same force she'd fought with "Unfettered" against and yet when love met betrayal which was she absolving to? Despite Gabriel's actions at Moral Crest being horrible in their own right and aggressive by all means were they not the same means by which "Unfettered" would have gone through with, No Compromise. That was the deal in his mind, never backing down and while there were a great many roads to victory, she'd decided hers and it was adjacent to his own means. This made them enemies, but was their goal not unchanged?
The very same seams that united them ultimately made them the monsters they were today, no one was free of the blood on their hands and the ultimate solution was for Emily to turn her gaze aside and stop judging someone she didn't ultimately know. Not deep down at least. They'd only read the surface.
"Nothing you say?"
Gabriel's appearance was something on the verge of anger turning swiftly to something of serious repose. "If you view yourself as nothing what hopes to you have of accomplishing anything? Are you so vain as to tell me who I am when you can't even define yourself?"
His stern hues sparkling that reminiscent emerald hue intensely lit through passionate heated emotions.
"We've only been made enemies because of this Emily, because you've become so headstrong on your 'throne' that you think you have that very same right, that those beneath you come second and that is why you have nothing, that is why you will never ascend to the levels of great people like "Unfettered"."
Gabriel's breath now came out ragged a little fiery with the words that lit the conversation of both past, present, and if she took it so far, future.
"Empty your cup."

"Nothing you say? If you view yourself as nothing what hopes to you have of accomplishing anything? Are you so vain as to tell me who I am when you can't even define yourself?" Emily only smirked and chuckled to herself quietly. Though he made sense, he never really understood her.
Logically, it was easier to observe other people than to observe oneself. Why? Because you can catch behavior that contradicts what one is. Right now, Emily contradicted many things in her life. She understood why Gabriel went there.
"We've only been made enemies because of this Emily, because you've become so headstrong on your 'throne' that you think you have that very same right, that those beneath you come second and that is why you have nothing, that is why you will never ascend to the levels of great people like "Unfettered"."
"Empty your cup."
Emily would then burst out into an uncontrolled laugh. Why? Why does he assume so many things about her? Does he know her that well? No. "Gabriel Seran, why do you assume so many things about me? Do you know me all that well?" She said, "No. You do not. You do not know why I do what I do. I do not have anything more than the normal person. Queen? That's only a title that was thought of for the purpose of Regalia, and now you associate me with it as a person? I am honestly quite insulted."
Emily would then fold her fan, sighing. Why must she be here? Maybe it was best she should just leave 259 and start a new life; probably never come back. Everyone on 259 hated her anyways. "Mind you, I have never, ever dreamed of becoming like him. He is great. That I know. I have never treated anyone lower than myself."
...
"You talk about equality but you lecture me this way? You are quite the hypocrite, in that respect." She breathed, trying to control her contained anger. Emily was human, after all. She was no God, she was no "Queen" in reality. "I was once weak too, and in a sense, I still am. I cannot outdo many people in many things, and the only thing I can do with noting is study. That's it."
...
Emily would wipe her eyes for a moment off some tears that more or less escaped her eyes and her hands quickly reached for her pockets, flipping open a bottle and taking a pill into her mouth. Her emotions were getting the best of her again, and she knew that was one of the weaknesses of her person. "Stop talking about me as if you know me. Stop talking about me as if you knew what kind of life I had, or what makes me do the things I do. You think you are God, that you have every right to make judgements on people and brand them as this and that."
...
"You know, when you fought with David the way you two did. I admired you. But now... urgh. That's it. I'm leaving." She said, picking up her fan and leaving the rooftop with a slam of the door.
That was it.
Maybe it was today that she should do something about her life.
Maybe leave California for good.
But where would she go? Where would she run?
...
Maybe---

The laugh was instantly to be seen and acknowledged as something of an insult though Gabriel's features remained unchanged. To laugh or act out of character from one's true neutral emotion was quite often a show of bravado to hide away fears of some sort, to shield oneself from the harshness of the world and Gabriel would associate that sudden laugh to his own jab at her personal thoughts. In life there were no rules of fair play, no common ground there were two people. Those who made the effort to change the world and then those who shat on it in attempts to make themselves higher than the rest or at the very least on an equal ground. Right now thats how he saw her, despite not wanting it as such, he wanted to do with her what he'd done with several others. Break them down only to build them up stronger in the end. Seems things had a way of quitting on you when their worst nightmares came to the forefront.
"You talk about equality but you lecture me this way? You are quite the hypocrite, in that respect."
Gabriel shrugged with a calm exposed smile.
"Then let us burn together."
For I have sinned
"I was once weak too, and in a sense, I still am. I cannot outdo many people in many things, and the only thing I can do with noting is study. That's it."
Father forgive me
"You are limited only to what you present yourself." Gabriel said once more tapping his forehead with an index finger. He knew the power of the mind well enough, to several teachers over time he had to thank, even the worst of enemies were often the greatest inspiration as such.
"Stop talking about me as if you know me. Stop talking about me as if you knew what kind of life I had, or what makes me do the things I do. You think you are God, that you have every right to make judgements on people and brand them as this and that."
Do I not? In a more perfect world there are many words to be said but here in an oh so flawed existence the only perfect word is silence and mediocrity for when we seek to excel beyond our boundaries many a foe rise to strike against us with malice and envy.
"You know, when you fought with David the way you two did. I admired you. But now... urgh. That's it. I'm leaving."
Gabriel stood there with a calm interpretation he didn't want her to leave, there was often a time like this where his blood was heated and it made him sharp. Keen senses triggered to think once more relying even upon old wounds trying to remember how it felt, to be so confused or simply just unsure of what was to come or why people were as such.
"In a more perfect world we could be better than this Em."
He said in a low voice not directing at her but rather where his eyes gazed down at the ground inches before his feet without any sense of movement.
"In a more perfect world I could say even better for you, though the thing is, I see myself as better because I strive for better. I'm bad because you make me bad, in the eyes of the many who seek to take me down and make me mortal, they want me to be like you."
His voice was still the same calm, "But I'm not, the barriers we build for ourselves often destroy us. I'm saying this as a friend not as a teacher or even a God. Let down your walls and think anew, don't plot to defeat someone, know you can build yourself up from that dream and theres nothing you cannot do. Even for the often misappropriated Sacricia Emily Lourdes E. Delos Santos."
He said her name with something of a boyish giggle to it not intending it as an insult rather as something kids would joke over in a naive and innocent fashion. Something that held so very little reason but would fill them both with playful reserves and in a more perfect world, the inspiration of hope.
