--Introduction--If there is truly such a thing as a tortured past, then surely this would qualify as such. Not that she asked for the life she was handed. But then the Gods can be cruel, just as much as they are loving. Their sick and twisted humor sometimes shone upon those whom are innocent and seemingly undeserving of having such travesties bestowed upon them. Some may think it to be just the Gods boredom shining through, but to some, it is a show of the Gods building character. But whatever the real reason for their torture upon the innocent, it does not make the pain or the reality of such a thing any less real.
--18 Years Ago The Nightmare Begins--The air of the night held something ominous. Thick clouds had rolled in, seeming to swallow all light from the heavens, cloaking the world in a shroud of darkness. It was as if the Gods themselves wished not to shine their light down upon the event taking place in the “Women’s & Children’s” section of the University Hospital of Houston, Texas; room 1408.
What was taking place you may ask?
Nothing that should have seemed out of the ordinary. No, not at all. In fact, it was what would appear to most to be a joyous occasion. The birth of a child, two children for that matter, a set of beautiful twin baby girls. New life being breathed into the world.
But there was something wrong with this picture. Instead of happiness, the young mother turned away as her daughters was offered to her. Tears flowing down her face as she shook her head.
“No, get them away from me.”
Her sobbed pleas causing a pained look upon the faces of those who had assisted in the birth. What were they to do? The mother clearly did not want the children. But why? They were beautiful. Dark hair and the most startling set of icy blue eyes. Their complexion soft and creamy in nature. It was clear from the moment they entered this world that they would indeed be beautiful young women one day.
The doctor would move from where he stood, taking the children from the nurse which coddled them close to her breast. A few heavy steps taking him to once more bring the babies face to face with their Mother.
“You do not wish to at least look upon your daughters?”
He pushed the babies toward her. The little infants screaming out for the warmth of their Mother’s touch. To hear that familiar sound of their Mother’s voice. It was all they had known in this short lifetime of theirs. But still the girl would shake her had and allow tears to softly slip from her eyes. She was young; only 15 at the time and did not wish to have the responsibility of raising a child. Especially twins. Not to mention that deep within her mind lurked a monster. A sickness which spread through her entire form and threatened to consume her. Threatened to consume the children they now tried to push at her.
“No! Get them away from me!”
Be it words spoken out of desperation, or a fierce need to try and protect the children from herself nobody would ever know. She would give up the children, be done with them. Wash her hands of the situation and that would be that.
Just then the door to the room flew open. A man; no, it could not have been a man. He was far too large for any mere man. His size alone enough to make those within the room shrink away, pressing against the wall as their eyes followed him. The girl, the mother, would look up, a happiness seeming to seep into her features as she reached for him.
But he simply looked at her and would then turn to the doctor who was holding the child protectively in his arms.
“I wish to see them. Now. Give them to me.”
His tone commanding. Something that said he would not be denied. Not that anyone would dare challenge him. He was large enough and seemed to emit enough power to say with no words at all that he could crush them all in a single instant.
The doctor moved forward, his shaky arms holding out the small infants to the large man. He would have done anything to get this scary figure from the room.
The large man reached out, taking the children and scoffing as he looked down upon them. A look of anger and hate filling his features as he shook his head. Moving over to the girl who still reached for him and shoving the infants into her arms.
“You have failed me! Keep these abominations and do not allow me to see them again!”
Hate showed in his eyes as he looked at her. His words sounding off the walls and causing everyone to cower in fear. Then, as simple as that, he turned on his heels. Leaving the room and not once looking back. The young girl left there, with a now screaming infants and nothing but darkness filling her heart.
--4 Years Later The Nightmare Continues--The little girl ran down the stairs of the old dilapidated house that was known to her as home. Her sister sound asleep in their bed they shared upstairs. A little giggle as black curls bounced about her face. Icy hues scanning the area as she searched for something.
“Mommy?”
Reaching the bottom of the stairs and stopping to look around at the place. To her it was the greatest place in the world. But to the outsider looking it, it was a hovel, a run down piece of trash that was unfit for any child. But when it was all you had ever known, you did not see it for what it was.
“Mommy!? Where are you?!”
She would whimper a little. Her little bottom lip being drug up between her teeth as she bit down softly. Fear starting to creep into her heart as she slowly started to move about the downstairs area. Please not again. She did not want to lose Mommy again. It was always scary when she lost her Mommy.
Rounding the corner and coming into the living room, her eyes fell upon a pair of bare feet hanging off of the ratty, stained couch. A breath of relief leaving her little form as she started toward it.
“Mommy! Mommy! Get up up! Hungry!”
Her little hand shook at the woman laying there. The woman covered in only a sheet, cuts and bruises apparent. Marks on her arms from the drugs she pumped into her system.
The little girl pouted softly and was about to start on another tirade of screams for food when there was knock on the door. Her eyes shooting to the door as fear hit her.
Uh oh! Mommy said not to open the door. But, what if they had food? What if it was that man Mommy liked so much?
Biting her lip she would slowly move to the door. Little hand reaching up as she tippy toed to reach the handle. With a little grunt of frustration, she would finally grab hold and pull. The door slowly opening. She peeked out, her hands grasping the frame edge as she peered around it to see the smiling face of a man and woman. Oh! The man was a powice ossiffer!! He had the shiny star on him!
She giggled as she hopped out from behind the door now. Her hands clapping softly as she looked at the two.
“Powice Ossiffer!!”
They smiled more as they both crouched down to meet her gaze. The woman speaking.
“Yes sweetheart. He is a police officer. Very good. Where is your Mommy?”
She would then point to the couch as she reached to try and grab the shiny star. The man letting her grab it as they both got this strange look on their faces.
The next few moments were a blurr.
Arms grabbing her up…
Footsteps pounding up the stairs as they went for her sister….
Scared little screams echoing out as she called for her Mommy.
The back of a car..
Tears, sobbing, hushed words as she was joined by her sister, curling up together in that seat and crying together…….
That was the last time they ever saw their Mommy again……
--8 Years Later The Madness Begins--She was in so much pain, she could not stand it. She felt hungry, but this was unlike anything she had ever felt. It had all started when Klint had cut himself in the living room. Her body had reacted to the sight of blood with….hunger?
She whimpered, her hands gripping her stomach as she doubled over and trembled. She had to make it stop. Had to make it go away. But how? She tried to think. But only a few thoughts made it through.
Blood…
Feed…..
Need……
She shuddered at the thought, but still found herself moving to get the razor out of the bathroom. Her hand trembling as she brought it to her flesh. A moment of hesitation as pain hit her again and she could stand it no longer.
She drug the blade down into her skin, letting her blood flow. The pain not as bad as she had thought it would be. Instantly, almost on instinct, bringing that wound to her lips and licking at the blood, the pain starting to fade. The hunger fading…
Dear Gods….
What was she becoming?
--6 Years Later A Fresh Start--It was finally over. Her years of hell had finished with the slam of a gavel on the judges podium. She was free of the system and looking for a new start. It landed her here in Long Beach, California. Sure, her house was not all that great, just a run down apartment and all. But hey! It was hers and nobody elses.
Smiling she would grab up her bag, her camera equipment in tow as she headed out the door. Okay. Now was the time for a fresh start. No more foster care. No more attempts to kill her, to scar her. To make her go away. No, this was a fresh start. A new school.
A new life.
She headed out of the building and out onto the sidewalk. She was in a bit of a hurry. She had to get to class.
--1 Year Later New Life Revealed--The sounds of doctors and nurses rushing about.
Sudden pain she did not know how to handle.
Then the feeling of being numb...
Alone.....
Scared.
Then, in a single moment her entire world changed forever. The sounds of a cry being heard to those who filled the room. All but to her. For no sooner had they pulled the last child from her womb than her heart stopped. The monitor beside her flatlining as life slipped from her small form.
Leaving her unaware that of the three children she had just given birth to, only two of them made it.......
--2 Months Later The Note--Kevala woke to the sounds of one very unhappy little boy. A light groan slipping forth as she shifted about on the bed and stretched. Her arm hitting upon something and causing her to stop in her movements.
It was not hard to tell what it was from the feel. It was a piece of paper. But she had not gone to bed with her books and homework last night. She had been too tired to study. Her brow rose as her eyes opened slowly.
Perhaps one of the girls in the house had left her a note?
But that did not make sense. The door was locked.
Aiden's cries continued, leaving her torn between attending him and seeing what the paper was. But in the end their son came first. Getting up and hurrying into the nursery.
Soon enough she came back, her arms wrapped about Aiden as she rocked him softly. Her soft tone slipping forth in a very soothing and maternal manner.
"Shh...Mommy's here. Now handsome, lets see what somebody left for Mommy to read huh?"
Smiling down at their son as she moved back to the bed, laying him down in the center of such and then crawling up to sit beside him as she reached out and grabbed up the paper.
It was a note, and the instant her eyes met with the words, her heart seemed to stop.
It was from Katsu. He was.....he was....
Her heart shattered...millions of pieces breaking over and over with each word she read. Tears filled those icy hues and spilled forth down her face. Her hands trembling heavily as she struggled to see through the tears to finish the letter.
A pain like she had never known consumed her. Her chest growing tight as she struggled to breath. Deep painful gasps taken as she finished the note left behind.
He had said he loved her. He had told her he wished this, wished to have children with her. He swore that he was happy. That she was his and he was hers.
Lies......they were all lies.......
How could she have been that stupid!?
He had meant none of it. He had turned his back on her and on their children. He did not even bother to tell her to her face..he had left a note...
A NOTE!
Did he even know that one of the girls had died. Did he even fucking care?
How could he do this to her?
Easy, she had really meant nothing to him. She had let herself believe in something that could never have been. Something she knew was impossible. Yet she had believed those words. Believed he loved her.
She cried out as the pain rocked her. Her head lowering as she held that note to her chest and cried. There were not fancy words, no sayings to describe her actions at that moment. No, she simply cried.
Part of her soul dying right then and there. She wanted to die, the pain was that bad. But as she sat there, her small form rocking back and forth slowly, the sound of a soft little coo would come from beside her.
Aiden.
She struggled to pull herself together as she looked at him. Anger creeping in as she did.
He had not just left her. He had abandoned Aiden and Kazumi. Just like their father had done her.
She had believed him different. But now, she supposed that he was not very different at all.
Aiden looked just like Katsuri. Not that he would ever know. It killed her. Laying down she would wrap herself about Aiden and continue to cry. The tears seeming to have no end in sight.
----Possible Forever??----She let out a soft groan as she crawled out of her car. It had been a long day of training with Sky and she was exhausted.
Things had been going good for her recently. Or at least it seemed that way to her. Sure, there was the whole torture session with Sky that had been.....well for lack of a better term......intense. Heh
But then there was the fact that out of that came a sense of strength she did not know she had. She was a better person now, and once she managed to get Arthur off her back and get things settled down a bit more. She would be great.
Sure, the news she held of Leon was unsettling. It ate away at her that such a thing was happening and she could do nothing about it. The part that tore her apart was that she could not bring herself to talk about it with Spike. Sure, they were dating but still! Besides...
Surely he knew. Right?
Well she just assumed that he did.
Making her way through the front door she would kick off her shoes and lean back against the door as she shut it.
Okay so maybe life was not yet as good as it could be. But she had to admit that somethings were going right for her. Not much. But some.
Letting out a little groan as she forced herself to once more begin moving, she dropped her keys onto the table in the entryway. Those icy hues scanning the staircase that led up to her section of the house.
Part of her debated upon going up there, eyes shifting to the couch in the main living room for a moment. She could always sleep there she supposed.
No, she did not want to be down here. The twins were upstairs and she was really wanted to just curl up in her bed and go to sleep. So with a heavy sigh she would force herself up the stairs. Her leg hurting just a bit. A reminder of the day Gabriel had broken it in an attempt to get her mind under control.
Not that she minded. Sadly. Heh..
Finally reaching her room, she would put in all the proper security codes and then move inside, first thought being to go and check on the twins.
As she entered each of their rooms, she saw that they were each sound asleep. It actually hurt to see this. She wanted to spend time with them.
But it was okay. Tomorrow was family day. Nothing but her and the kids and perhaps Spike if he so chose.
Once she had made sure that they were both fine she would move to her own room. Not even bothering to take off her clothes. Simply kicking off her shoes and falling onto the mass expanse of her bed. Nuzzling into her pillow briefly before she would let sleep find her.
No telling what tomorrow would hold. Best to get all the rest she could.
-----The Dark Road Ahead----Well, her happy ever after had failed to come true. Again. Spike was now A.W.O.L from her life, she had not seen him in weeks and though his stuff still filled the drawers in her room, and the space in her training room, she doubted that he would be coming back any time soon. He had said the ill fated words “I love you” and sure enough, just like Katsu before him, he had left.
She did not know what it was about those words that seemed to run men off the instant they said them to her, but they did none the less. Not that she could really complain. She had not been exactly….behaved…as of late. No, she had been anything but.
What had she done?
Well, she had gone and surrendered her heart to the one man in her life who would never be able to love her….Gabriel Seran.
Such a stupid girl she was. But even as she sat there, day after day, her mind running over the many things that could never be with him, she found that she loved him more with every passing moment. People thought her insane, stupid….you name it, they had probably called her that or thought that about her at one point or another.
Gabriel continued to put her through nothing but constant pain, teasing her at every turn only to push her away. It was enough to drive most women insane, but not Kev.
Why?
Because in the beginning it had been a promise, a vow to stand beside him in order to protect those she cared about and to show that she believed in what he stood for, just as she had told him upon first meeting him.
But then, as time went on, it had turned into something more….Something much, much more. Despite the things she tried to tell herself. Despite the times she tried to convince herself that it was wrong and that to love him was a stupid mistake, she found that her heart fell.
She should have known by now, that the one thing a person could never control was their heart and who they fell in love with. So, she surrendered her fight against it and let herself fall for the Dark Lord himself. Offering him her heart, her trust, and her loyalty.
Gabriel Seran became her world, the one man she would do anything for, even if it cost her the very beat of her heart, the very breath in her lungs.
She would die for him…..
Sitting there, in her living room, she let her mind run over all this, she would let her eyes fall down to look over her wrists….the clean, smooth scars that ran along them a constant reminder of what she would do if she lost him.
She did not fear living in this world, but she did fear living without him. Selfish? Probably. But Kevala lived her life for everyone else. She devoted her time and energy to giving the twins a good life and to making sure that she did all she could for Gabriel.
So she did not see the harm in wanting to die if she lost the one person who she loved more than her own life.
Everyone looked down on her now, with pity and with sadness. Thinking how sad it was that she had devoted her life to a man like Gabriel.
But it did not bother her in the slightest. She may never have him with her, may never know what it felt like to have him love her the way she did him, but she had him in her life, and that was enough for her. She would suffer the pain and longing every day she lived just to have that little bit of him in her life.
For so long people have questioned what love is. What
true love is. But Kevala knew…at least deep down in her heart she thought she did. It was the willingness to give up everything for the other person. To support their dreams and their hopes no matter the road they led down.
And the road she now traveled with him was a dark one. One that was sure to lead to nothing but pain for one or both of them.
She knew the outcome, no matter how much he tried to hold it from her view. But she knew….and she said nothing…
She had vowed to stand beside him through anything………….
Even through death………
------No Strings Attached------The ties that bind us sometimes are harder to see than most would believe. Kevala always thought that she knew what it was that had a hold on her, thought that she had it all under control to some extent. But it took her shutting down emotionally to finally see that some of the things she took for granted were the very things that held her down.
Katsuri.....the one man she had opened herself up to, the one man who she had believed would be with her forever.............the one man to show her love.
But now, as she sat in her room of Seran Manor, eyes cast out the window, she realized that never had he really loved her. For if he had, if he had truly wanted her above all others, he would not have continued to pursue so many other women. Sure, he may not have slept with them, but he held them, caressed them, and gave them all of his attention. All the while Kevala, the one who accepted him for his faults and everything else, the one who devoted herself to him without question or concern, was the one left to fend for herself.
He left, yet his hold upon her never truly did. She remained in his home, constantly reminded of the way things could have been.
But no more. No longer could she take the suffering, the pain that came from the constant reminder that she had simply not been good enough.
It took finally realizing that she was never going to be enough for Gabriel, never going to be enough for anyone, for her to finally see the truth. So, she had set forth on a mission, to sever all ties that held her down, that held her back from a life where she could be independent and free of others control. Or at least out from under the control of those she did not wish to be held down by.
With a plan in mind, she had gone to the one person she knew she could trust, the one who she knew would help her.....Gabriel, asking him to burn the house to the ground, asking him to help rid her of that burden she no longer wished to carry.
He had agreed.....with only one condition....that he be able to do such right then and there, stating that she and the twins live with him until she could find a place of her own.
She agreed.
And the deed was done...
Now, here she sat, the one place that she thought she would never be, emotions running high through her as she thought it all over. Yet, nobody would know that, for on her face was nothing but a calm, cold expression.
If nobody could see the emotions you felt, then nobody could hurt you.
At least that is what she believed..............
