- Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi, translated as the Kusanagi Blade, was the blade that originally belonged to Kane Hikari. After he had graduated from Public High School 253, during which he created the gang the Guardians, asked a legendary sword smith in Japan to forge and construct the blade, who did and completed the request. Kane carried the blade with him everywhere, including into the battle against GlaDOs. But with his untimely death, the blade was passed to Kazuya Hikari, who, instead of taking it, asked his older sister, Kyoko Hikari, to bury the blade at the base of his favorite tree, located on top of the cliff overlooking St. Paragon's, since their father had no body to bury. Kazuya was then presented with a copy of the blade from Kyoko, in order to carry out his last promise to his father. He then used it in the Paladin War, but unwillingly left it behind, after he had fallen unconscious from his wounds.
- Kyoko, who had been searching for her brother, as asked by their father, protected the sword during the Paladin War, but kept the real blade hidden from her brother, even after finding and bringing him back from the dead. When Kazuya became a Knight of Regalia, he knew that he was going to need a sword. But the Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi, the sword she gave him so long ago, he had to leave it someplace else. But what he needed was not that copy. He needed the real Kusanagi Blade, the sword his father wouldn't release, even in death. The Kusanagi Blade of the Akuma. Kyoko then presented Kazuya with an item wrapped in cloth, which after opening it, he discovered it was the Kusanagi Blade. Kyoko had to apologize, she did not bury it at the base of Kazuya's favorite tree back at St. Paragon's, she kept it. Before their father died, he had called Kyoko to talk, and she did what he had instructed, but she only gave the blade to Kazuya before she left Long Beach. The blade would be used by Kazuya for his own promise that he made. Having been using the blade as a bokken, only recently has Kazuya begun to use the blade as it should be used.
- The sword would be used by Kazuya not only to carry out his promise, but also provide Kazuya with a sturdy weapon that would not only be trustworthy, but also that eventually the sword would be less of or none at all, a hindrance to Kazuya's growth in skill, and that he would become even more stronger than his father was. The sword stands at about 4 feet when held vertically, with the blade itself about 3 feet long. The blade weighs about 2 lbs.
- The blade was constructed from specialized Japanese steel called "Tamahagane" which consist of combinations of hard, high carbon steel and tough, low carbon steel. The blade was first created by making a U-shaped piece of high-carbon steel (the outer edge) and placing a billet of low-carbon steel (the core) inside the U, then heating and hammering them into a single piece. The block of combined steel was then heated and hammered over a period of several days, and then it was folded and hammered to squeeze the impurities out. It was folded no more than sixteen times, then it was hammered into a basic sword shape. The skill that had been placed into its craftsmanship was enough to rival even the skill of the famous Japanese swordsmith Goro Nyudo Masamune, whose blades are considered national treasures in Japan today.
- The sheath was carved from the finest but toughest Japanese wood currently known and covered in sheet metal making the sheath the heaviest but most durable part of the sword, weighing about 5lbs, also allowing the wielder to use the sheath as a second "sword" if needed. The hilt was forged from sheet metal, in order to ensure that it would be very durable, and also, because of the flame abilities that Kazuya wields, allowing him to use the sheath as a second "sword" if needed.
- The sword weighs a total of 8 lbs.
