Feelings and memories had a way of catching up to Kate. Doubly so when she was listening to music she hadn't heard in ages. It was a free period, and here she was in the back of the library, listening to her mp3player. An old song by Linkin Park "In the End".
And only one line came to mind. In the end, it doesn't even matter. Kate knew the words to the song, she had loved singing it her freshman year along with everything else the blonde had listened then. Funny how this song popped up between American Express and Busta Ryhmes.
Sitting back in the slightly cushioned chair, Kate closed her eyes, the song on repeat for the moment. She had put her trust in a lot of people, and it didn't matter in the end right? Was she being emo?!? Her eyes glared at the ceiling, cracking open for a moment.
Another sigh and Kate tried to relax, even though the words drifted to her ears. How could she just get rid of these damned emotions and memories. Drowning herself in vodka wouldn't work much longer, and her skin crawled every time she thought about what she had done with him. A rapist. It had shook her to the core. Kate had loved to watch him smile... and it made her gut wrench in weird ways. Was something wrong with her, choosing a man like that? It just made her angry.
"Fuck all this bullshit."

((Hope you don't mind...))
Justin was sitting not far, a single earphone dangling out while the other blared music straight into his cerebral cortex. He was reading, a book called Shogun, by James Clavell. A good read, indeed.
As he listened, a single ear kept attention for anyone around him. But, for some reason, he never noticed the girl almost parallel to his own seat, albeit faced the opposite way. So, when the voice came out, he nearly jumped a mile.
Fuck all this bullshit.
He decided that turning wouldn't be a good idea, but it nagged at him. Someone was either pissed off or beyond sad, two things he normally didn't deal well with, but curiosity got the better of him, and he turned around in his seat. There, sat a golden haired beauty, a vixen in the library.
He gulped. Loudly.
He turned back around, placing a bookmark within the meeting of the paper. He sat the book down, and turned his chair slowly, trying not to be overzealous in his movements.
I mean, it wasn't every day that you get to meet a beautiful girl such as this one.
He cleared his throat to get her attention, and then somewhat strongly, he spoke,
Anything particularly wrong, miss?

After speaking her words, Kate had ripped out one earphone. And when the kid next to her spoke, she heard him. Her mp3player flicked to something more suited to the blonde. Touch it Remix with a bunch of different artist. If you listened you could hear the words.
"Get low digger. Now he's sitting there looking stuck, he thinks if he spent a little dough I'm gunna fuck. If money don't mean a thing, then let him fuck dough."
Not that anyone was listening. Her bright green eyes were staring at the kid, studying him for a few moments. Then a small smile appeared on her glossed lips, her high heeled boots shifted as she turned in her seat. To face him better. She had worn black slacks that were tight around her waist, but loose around her feet. Add in a pair of black high heeled boots, and a tight bright red tank top that clung to her form.
"If I could say one thing. Bastards. Be a good boy, don't cheat on your girlfriend, and sure as hell don't cheat on her by raping other girls. You'll piss her off to the point where she wants to kill you slowly."
A laugh escaped her lips. So what if she wasn't in the best mood. It hurt, deeply. And there wasn't anything she could really do about. Jester had left town before she had, flying away to Italy and disappearing with his parents. She would have shoved her longest high heel up his ass and left him with it duct taped there.

Be a good boy...
He thought about her statement for a minute. It made sense, of course, but it was of almost totally obvious sense, like the sense one would have from birth. You don't rape people, and you don't cheat people.
Only fuckers did that, and fuckers deserved to be beaten.
Oh? Well, i'll keep that in mind next time I have a girlfriend. He said sheepishly, a grin spreading on his face.
I"m Justin, by the way. It was nice to meet you...? He said, offering a hand to shake.

He hadn't reacted like she expected. How she had wanted. A slight twitch on her lips was all that anyone could tell over it, but a polite smile replaced it. No one would know unless they were a close friend of Kate. She shook Justin's hand, not gripping that hard. Who knew who was weaker or stronger? A too firm handshake would have negative effects either way. Kate wasn't in the mood for a fight or anything, so she was a little careful that way.
"Kate McHallin. I just transferred in from New York."
New York City. It had been Kate's personal little hell. Would this place become her heaven? The opposite of everything New York had been? There was a chance. She might even make new friends...and just have a nice, normal life.
But then again, more than likely not. After all, nothing in her life had been normal. Not since the day she had been born. Since she had breathed her first breath. Kate was sure of that.
"It's nice to meet you too Justin. What grade you in?" Information was the name of the game. Who knew what could come in handy later on in life? Friends now could mean good connections later.

Justin shook her hand lightly as well, as you were never to be rough with a woman...
Unless she liked that sort of thing.
Smiling, he caught that she was from New York.
Cool! I'm from New York too! Though, admittedly, not from the City... Mid state, around the Albany area. Thats pretty ironic, two kids from around the same place.
He smiled genuinely, a facade of either childishness or pure stupidity masking his true persona. Like, he barely knew her. Like he was just going to open up and tell her his life story.
Oh, I'm a Freshman... Yeah, lowly old me.

"I'm actually from around here...spent almost 14 years of my life in LA... then the next three and a half in New York City. And Freshmeat? Well...everyone has to be one at one point. I'm a senior."
She leaned back in her seat, smiling just slightly at him. So...freshmeat? Ah yes, the good ole days of being a freshman. Those had been her "golden" years. The most fun! Running around with Jin and Zander...Areon giving her that booze... dating Ghiste. Things had been simple. They had been fun.
Going to art class, hanging out with Mimi and Kyr. Joining cheer leading, becoming the captain just like that. Meeting Foxx and becoming his friend. No gangs, no real fights. Just good ole fun hanging out and laughing. The party in the middle of the park.
A real smile was on her lips as she just stared at nothing for a moment. Those had been the days for her. When nothing matter except having fun. But Kate shrugged out of it to smile at Justin.
"Besides, it's a small world. You run into all sorts of people, right?"

Yeah... Run into all sorts of people... Levi...
Yeah, totally... Which reminds me, why are you here? It seems like everyone who comes here has some sort of story. I know I do, what with those jerks... Justin's face suddenly grew pale, and then violently red, as he remembered why he was there...
Yeah, so, why are you here?
He pulled out his iPod with speed, shutting it down by holding in the pause button, never breaking contact with Kate, looking at her the entire time...

"Really, truly?"
Kate chuckled a bit, thinking about it as the fingers of her right hand picked at the edge of her shirt. So many reasons why she had come here. So many things she could tell him. But why not right?
"I had to get away from it all. I was in a gang, pretty high up there really. I got jumped, sent to the hospital. I dated a sicko, and didn't find out about it til later... Lesse... I couldn't take the drama in cheer leading, and I wanted...to come home."
Home. That's where the heart was...right? Kate could only laugh at that. After all, she hadn't felt like she was home...since freshman year in that little apartment. That icky little thing had felt more like home than anything else in her life. Funny right?

Her tale sounded surprisingly sad, as he figured a beautiful girl such as this would've had it easy her entire life.
Yeah, that does sound a little harsh. Well, at least you are happy now, right?
The question was deep. It came off as just a casual piece, but obviously there was some emotion that could be evoked from it, as if it was another probing of her psyche...

Kate paused for a moment. Was she happy now? Now... what was going on now? Kate was a little happy...her father was almost dead, the companies were sold off, she had left almost everyone in New York behind. But was she happy?
No.
The blonde felt cold inside, like her heart was wrapped in ice, and now matter how hard she tried to chisel it out...it would stay that way. Like she shouldn't trust anyone... like she couldn't trust anyone. Sad really....she wanted to trust people.
"...No... I don't think I'll be happy for awhile."
She said it easily, as if it wasn't out of place in their conversation. As if anyone in the world could have said the same. Cold, deep down inside. Maybe she could do anything... and nothing would come back to harm her. Because she couldn't feel on that level. Ice couldn't feel.
