Mental Information
Personality: Jayla was very – believe it or not - studious, even as a young girl possessing a level of curiosity that led her to wanting answers to questions. Unsuspectingly sharp, she pursued her interests despite being dissuaded from time to time. With a finger literally in every pot, Jayla tries to be everywhere she can – a habit that hasn’t let up at all as she’s gotten older. Surely, her interests have sharpened and narrowed but she will always love a good book, finding out something new whether it is getting to know someone or learning an obscure fact. Jayla fancies herself a fount of useless knowledge, on most things.
Mentality: She isn’t known for her attitude one way or another – Jayla is just as comfortable sitting with herself and not talking to anyone as she is with chatting it up in a group setting. She’d like to say she doesn’t stand out in any particular fashion – but knows better. Though, she does prefer to be around people in large groups rather then more personal, intimate situations.
Ideal: It's better to be quotable than to be honest.
Belief: 'Tis my opinion every man cheats in his way.
Physical Information
Build: Slim long lines, with only subtle curves to accentuate her femininity
Defining Marks: Nose piercing – a smooth stud, and tattoo on the inside of her left wrist in a cursive script that reads – “Forbear to judge, for we are sinners all”.
Description:
Jayla stands at five foot six inches tall, nothing to outstandingly commanding as she has a rather small frame. She’s never been a big person anyways, always diminutive with slender legs and arms, and long fingers. With what she would consider to be a narrow face, her nose is straight and petite; almond shaped dark brown eyes, which are framed by dark lush lashes, and long black hair. It falls in layered waves, with a slight curl, past her shoulders to the middle of her back – Jayla sweeps her bangs to one side to keep it out of her eyes, but you will never catch her without her hair done in some way.
She normally isn’t very particular about her appearance but takes meticulous care, in any case, keeping her dusky olive hued skin clear of blemishes, and tries to steer clear from heavy cosmetics. Her lips naturally pouting lips have the habit of turning up in a small mischievous grin – like she knows something you don’t. She likes her eclectic collection of clothes, shoes and accessories – and further more she likes to wear them, hardly needing an excuse to get dressed up in something fun, or just plain outrageous.

Fighting Information
Fighting Style: Non-combatant

Description of style: Jayla isn’t a fighter, never has been and probably will never be. If she ever was to get fisticuffs with someone they’d have her knocked out in no time flat. But she’d like to think she has enough charm and wit to get herself out of nasty situations - though, she by no means thinks talking will always save her. She’s had incredible luck thus far and has either just been able to avoid scuffles or has had someone with her that could handle it. That in mind, Jayla has absolutely no desire to fight and tends to avoid conflict in any way she possibly can.
History Information
History:
Jayla was born to Damian and Amanda Herrera, in the coastal town of Long Beach California. While it was no small town or close knit community it was a pleasant enough place to live as the youngest of four boys. Treated well enough like the princesses of the group, she was pampered and indulged, never had to worry about anything. The first and only girl in the family, she stayed the baby. Coming into the world on a warm Spring day, the season remains her favorite even today. Her mother, Amanda finally got the chance to have the little girl she always looked forward to– dressing her up in frilly outfits and teaching her all the things a mother can for her daughter.
That was to say, Jayla turned out to be more or less rotten – at times. The sheltering left her a little naive to ways of anything that didn’t come from a book, but she was also relatively free to do what she wanted. She enjoyed spending most of her time trailing after her mother in the kitchen or along with chores “helping” or bugging her brothers if they went to play. She was considered that kid sister – the one that wanted to play with the big boys. Nothing really extraordinary can be said to have happened to the Herrera’s. They fought and bickered like any one.
After her teen years hit in full swing though she pretty much unleashed herself on the world, or rather just southern California. Jayla’s relatively simply happy life, turned upside down – changing her entire perception on many things, but leading her to want to know more about it regardless. Adaptability was always one of her strengths so she dived head first – for better or worse.
However, as Jayla grew older she began to realize the role her mother so desperately wanted just wasn’t what she was going to get. She learned fairly early to become thick skinned, and not to be so sensitive to others views. Her father cautioned to her that many were set in their way and weren’t used to such unusual ways of thinking (his way of putting it nicely), he made sure she understood that if she was going to stand by her convictions it would be a hard thing.
She’s sure now that her father never once thought his daughter would grow up to be who she is, but he wouldn’t dream of wishing for anything different. Daring to be a little different brought her liberation but also exclusion, from many things. For instance – she would become restless when in school, was transferred through a couple and suspended from others due to behavioral problems.
More then once she was caught hustling, gambling or just doing something that would earn her a quick – and most often times dishonest- buck. Jayla isn’t sure what drives her forward to try and pull of the cons she does, cheating people out of their money – but she finds a small thrill in it each and every time she gets away with anything. (Even most times when she doesn’t.)
She has always had the habit of falling in with the more unsavory crowds of people but never really stuck around to make anything more then good acquaintances with people. For the better part of her four years of high school life (no matter where and if she bothered attending at all) Jayla has drifted in and out of various groups, those from all walks of life. It became clear though that her family was the only real and outlasting thing she would ever be able to count on, other then herself – despite anything.
As it is, because of the way she’s chosen to live and conduct herself, PHS 259 is her absolute last chance to finish and graduate high school.
