While she was still away and after Patrick had finished his steady stream of obscenities he stopped to think. How was he going to explain this to the paramedics? He couldn't just say he brought a gun into school and told the girl to shoot him. For one that would get her in a shit ton of trouble, which was the point of her hiding the gun. Another point to make was if he told them the full truth they'd ask more questions and he'd be more screwed then Nova. A story of sorts was better then nothing, having no story and suspicious circumstances would make life difficult. Then Patrick stopped to think, the bullet entered him from a downward trajectory. Wasn't there a story of someone being killed by a bullet that had been shot up into the sky of some sort of celebration, most likely drunken, and flown into a person killing them? Was that even possible? In his circumstances, at least. Wasn't the slug of the bullet too far into the wall for that? It really didn't matter, that was the only plausible explanation without a gun. And the truth, that wasn't happening.
What about Nova though? Could she deliver a lie like that? Especially in this state. Patrick highly doubted that she would be able to tell a necessary lie that was vague enough to be true without changing her story. Besides, no one really would be able to explain Patrick's bullet story knowing that that was it if it just randomly happened. Patrick knew his story was flimsy at best originally, but there was no other real explanation before investigations started. Besides the paramedics didn't do that. They would just treat him. Patrick had it now, the story would work well enough, for now. He had just been in the courtyard and he didn't know what happened.
When Nova came back things were looking good. Patrick heard sirens which meant the paramedics had likely arrived on campus. It would be another minute or two before they actually made it here. So the junior looked at Nova and would give her another set of instructions.
"Nova, are ye okay?" Patrick asked making sure she was listening, "If they ask ye anything, ye don't know anything. Ye were just walking and saw me like this. Ye don't know what happened ye just saw me like this and called the ambulance and helped me, nothing else."
There, he didn't even give her his lie. Good, if she could just say that she would be fine. Patrick had thought about telling her to cry if they started questioning her too much, but he was glad he hadn't. To pull the "leave-me-alone" cry you had to start crying at the right time or it would look suspicious and more questions would be asked. It either had to be fortunate timing for a guilty person or done with a cool head, something Patrick wasn't sure about her having.
Patrick sighed, hearing shouting voices down the hall. They were coming and he had his story straight good. Wait... Fuck. Patrick knew it. His story of the unknown bullet wouldn't work. Damn, they were at school. The gun was unsilenced. Someone was bound to hear the gunshot. That was inevitable. Though thinking again Patrick should be safe. Everyone should have scattered after it had been reported right? No one still saw it. There would be a witch hunt to find the "person". No one would suspect what had really happened. It would give Patrick enough time to get stabilized at the hospital and leave. Sure the story would cause confusion, but it wouldn't really matter. The truth of what happened was so odd that it would never be immediately expected and whatever evidence there might have been would be gone after they cleaned Patrick's wounds.
'Simple enough, right?' Patrick thought as the voices got closer...
