Life can change in an instant.
Today, i awoke to a particularly good smell. My gf cooking. It was a palpable scent, filling my head with color and sense. I love her cooking. She's brilliant. I knew that, as i tossed the covers from my form that it was going to be a fantastic, magical day. My heart and soul told me i would look back on it and smile.
At 4:30, my mom called me, telling me that close family friends of ours, which we have known since i was ten, got into a deadly car accident this afternoon. A man fell asleep at the wheel of his semi and flew over a barricade, slamming into their car head on at 60 mph. The car was flung clean over an embankment and rolled about 135 feet downhill. Herb, the father, was killed. Peggy, my moms close friend, was crushed against the ground, her spine bending and popping out the back of her. She is currently in ICU.
Their two sons, 11 and 13 respectively, are seriously injured, one with a crushed pelvis, a broken femur and fractured jaw. The other has a broken arm and leg, and a split skull. They will be in the hospital for days.
I'll be taking a break from this place, perhaps for a few weeks, in order to help support them through this and re-evaluate myself.

I scarcely need to say this, but do what you need to do. And good luck.
