Patience, a trait honed through years of practice, no child was gifted with these abilities at the start of life and certainly not something earned after prolonged exposure. It took a difficult consistency of wanting to change, that was surely a measure of strength in a man. Jaus sat rubbing his temples with the left forefinger while his right played with the safety tuned spork picking at the 'plastic' lunch room food. I'd been about two days since he'd proclaimed himself as Captain and no trouble thus far, apparently the spar with John had given him some rep, bending the flames of a fire master wasn't an easy feat.
Placed on the benches he sat hunched over and unabated by the conflicting constraints of threats, he didn't have much of the thought that someone might want to come and stab him in the back. Like a theme from Jaws the music would play from the narration; dun dun... dun dun.....dundundundun...... duh duuhhhhh dunanunanananana!!!
*Plonk*
Jaus would wince for a second before the plunking noise became the click of plastic breaking and he'd proceed to turn around slowly catching the plastic spork of an apparent failure assailant break against his back..
"What?

Mia was here for the pure and simple reason that a girl had to eat. Yeah, true, it wasn't the best food in the world. Processed meats that were often a mystery to even those who prepared them, some generic stuff they called pasta, and potatoes out of a box. About the only thing recognizable and clearly good was the fruit. Something they served every day....Most likely to make up for the other crap they piled on the trays.
Taking her tray from the end of the assembly line, or at least that is what it looked like to her, Mia turned and looked over the vast cafeteria in search of the most elusive empty chair. Sure their were plenty, but being the new girl you had to pick your spot carefully lest you wanted to end up with your food on your lap, your face or in somebody else's stomach.
A few cautious steps forward to take her out of the way of those leaving the lunch line behind her, she sighed and blew a bit of her hair out of her face. It looked like she was going to have to walk around a bit if she had any hopes of sitting and eating. Maybe she could judge by the looks she got which seat was safe.
It was during her slow pace through the rows of tables that she witnessed the guy with the......spork?....try and take out the other guy. Really? Standing close enough to be heard she couldn't pass up the opportunity on this one...even though it wasn't the smartest thing in the world.
"A spork? Really? THAT is the best you can do?
Followed closely by a small burst of laughter that she did try hard to contain. Shaking her head, she simply took a few steps more before she was standing by the would be murdered guy. Well, would be if sporks had a high fatality rate.
"Umm, if you aren't too wounded from the attack...could I sit here?"
Her foot nudging the leg of the chair opposite where he sat, eyes going back and forth between the seat and him.
"I promise not to try and shank you.
A little grin on her lips as she fell silent. Hopefully he wouldn't be a total ass and tell her to get lost. She was hungry and tired of carrying around this stupid tray.

A confused and blushing stare of the individual looking back like a deer in the headlights as several students around laughed at him for one, not to mention now staring down his would be prey unscathed and unrelenting as far as the gaze. Jaus of course didn't move to fight like the girl had said it was a would be attempt, even comical at that if he'd ever seen one.
"You done here?"
A comatose nod and a flurried escape in the opposite direction would send Jaus' heightened agitation into remissions and his attention back to the bowl of ramen noodles he'd been stirring for what felt like the last half an hour.
"Umm, if you aren't too wounded from the attack...could I sit here? I promise not to try and shank you.
His head would return back up to the girl making her entry to the table, being the loner sort that Jaus was there was nobody at the table but him. All adjacent ones were more or less filled and made him wonder why she chose to sit here. Most people looked for status with tables, or even the association of people to talk with, Jaus was none of these sorts, of course he'd never tried nor bend to other peoples attempts. If anything he was a steel girder that took some breadth to bend.
"Ugh its okay with me...."
Jaus really had nothing more to say seeing as he was inconclusive as to why she wanted to sit there, maybe she'd be more inclined to talk than him.

Nodding silently she pushed the chair out with her foot enough to allow her to slide into it and sit down. Completely ignoring the guy that had just moments ago tried and failed miserably to strike some kind of blow to the one sitting all alone at the table. Honestly, he wasn't worth a second glance, not if he thought that was something worthy of being called a striking blow.
Setting her tray down she picked up her own spork, mind playing over the many thing she COULD say but choosing instead to keep them to herself. Instead she hit the handle end against the table to break off the plastic wrap around it.
Peeling it off the rest of the way she crumpled it up and placed it in the empty corner of her tray.
"Thanks for letting me sit here. My names Mia by the way.
Switching her spork to her left hand she extended her right across the table in a gesture to shake. Whether he took up the offer or not she would wait a few moments before withdrawing her hand and beginning her prodding of food around her tray.
"So any specific reason that guy was trying to take you out with plastic utensils or is it just cause you look so good?"
A little grin given before she took up a bite of food and nibbled it down. All the while her brown eyes watching him, noting the fact that he sat alone and seemed to be a solitary type person. Just based on how he looked she knew that it wasn't being an outcast that caused his table to be empty.
But then again, she could be wrong. Maybe he was some guy that looked hot but ate his own boogers and farted in class. One could never tell just by looking at a person.

"Thanks for letting me sit here. My names Mia by the way.
He'd nod taking the hand gesture to shake lightly, a calm grin etched at the corners of his lips despite the supposed "assassination attempt" by spork no less it left him not rattled but perhaps thoughtful that now rather than being invisible he was now the target.
"Jaus, strange I know but yea."
Jaus would try to get a laugh out of that, though most might stare at him strangely, he was German after all therefore names were akin to Hansel or Gretel.
"So any specific reason that guy was trying to take you out with plastic utensils or is it just cause you look so good?"
He could think of a few reasons, the one of course he didn't want to reveal was probably the truth of the matter though. He'd scratch his head gently before dissuading the left hand to his side and looking up with a compatriot grin.
"Other than the name, I suppose it would be this silly School Captain title..."
He'd smile bashfully not intending to be ashamed of it just humble.

Still sliding a bit of food around her tray, debating on if she really wanted to eat it or not, she looked up when he mentioned his name. A light laugh given, not one that said she found his name funny or out of place, but that she appreciated his attempt at downplaying it before anyone else had the chance to.
"Well it may be different but at least it wont be hard to remember."
A little smile given before her brown eyes fell to the tray before her once more. It wasn't until he mentioned the reasons for the guy trying to assassinate him that she looked back to him and raised her brow slightly.
"Yeah, that might be a good reason for somebody to want to take you out. From what I understand this school is filled with bids for power."
Shrugging slightly, she reached up and tucked a bit of her hair behind her ear, eyes going to her food for a moment before she finally gave in and took a bite. It wasnt great, but it was at least something. With the first few bites downed, she turned her attention back to him.
"I think its cool you are School Captain....Well as long as your goals dont include enslaving the entire student population."
Another small laugh given at her own little attempt at humor before she again took up another bite of food.

"Yeah, that might be a good reason for somebody to want to take you out. From what I understand this school is filled with bids for power."
One could say that, but he supposed that all throughout life there were bids for power, this school wasn't anything special particularly not just about that. He winced to think of life after all of this, what types of horrendous atrocities there were made in the name of power. Jaus would twirl the spork in the bowel of ramen before him mixing up the spice amongst the portrayal of noodles taking a liking to the scent more than anything else as his last bite had left a staving burn in his mouth unquenched by water.
"I think its cool you are School Captain....Well as long as your goals dont include enslaving the entire student population."
He'd stop twirling and look up right on que with a mischievous look on his face figuring it'd be a bit fun to play around so to speak.
"Who's to say I'm not."
The inquiry coming at a bit of a dark tone, though his intentions were far from revealed it could be anyones guess as to what he was implying.

His words got her to stop with her food once more and look up at him, one eye squinting just a bit as she tilted her head and tried to judge his expression. Though honestly that was hard to do.
Finally she just straightened up and shrugged slightly.
"Well, if you are, you should know I don't like chains....they dont really go with any of my clothes."
Another little grin before she returned to eating. She was having trouble getting past the bland taste of todays main course. What she wouldnt give for something with a little more flavor.
After a few more bites, she set her plastic spork down and reached for her drink, taking a few long pulls of it down her throat. Once the beverage was set down she returned her almond eyes to the guy sitting across from her with a somewhat pleasant smile on her lips.
"I dont know. I have met a few people here and there. But honestly I haven't learned enough to decide who is the right person to listen to. If there is such a thing."
Honestly she knew the only person to listen to was herself. But that didnt mean that every other person in the world was wrong in their own ideals and beliefs. Just that when it all came down to the line only she could decide what was truly right for her.

Sarcastic on here apparently. Jaus rolled his eyes with a steady grin crossing his lips before settling in a bit more relaxed coming to realize that the girl's most vital weapon was words. He could do words, he could do fists, in fact there were seldom things that he couldn't deal with among which he'd been yet to face. For good reason perhaps.
"I dont know. I have met a few people here and there. But honestly I haven't learned enough to decide who is the right person to listen to. If there is such a thing."
"Its hard to say, people here are something else, they come and they go."
There was some distress in his voice remembering some of his own times. Primarily those with Gabriel where they ruined a party, killing a man to serve as vengence only to betray one of his closest friends. People where maniacal, he served as no exception to this fact however many good repentance acts he'd performed to save his own soul.
Jaus would look down, the grin to his face turned somber and focused brows turned to his bowel of Ramen.

She noticed the way his expression seemed to change, making her mind work over the different reasons as to why that could be. Finally, she leaned back in her seat and gave a little shrug.
"People come and people go. I dont think that is really the way this school works, but more the way life works."
She thought over her own words for a moment before she again leaned forward and took up another bite of food. She wasn't necessarily done talking but she was putting a bit more thought into the words that were going to leave her mouth.
After a moment, she set down her spork and looked up at him once more. She wasn't trying to win any brownie points...just trying to hold a decent conversation.
"I think what matters is the impact those people make on us while they are around."
She gave a little shrug and then resumed eating. It was the truth after all. There were those people who taught us things, taught us to be more than we were before we met them. And then there were the ones that were just a waste of space and time.
"So how long have you been school captain?"
It was probably something she should know. But honestly she hadn't really gone around asking about that sort of thing. Not because it wasn't important, but because she had more important stuff going on at the moment than student government.

He thought particularly deeply on the matters of which she spoke, people that is, he never very much understood then as well as he might like to think he did. It would explain why he'd collected hardly any friends in his life, not to mention the ones he did had quickly made a way to earn his mistrust and suspicion.
Jaus would sigh, leaning forwards almost as to forget what she was there, clearly no intention of being rude just a thoughtful mind forgetting to lay at rest. His head would dip resting his chin in the curvature of his upwards turned right palm, the elbow of which settling on the table. Once again ignoring his food he piked up his nose getting the scent narrowly in the cusps of each breath.
"So how long have you been school captain?"
Without any sense or thought he'd turn himself to speak upwards still keeping his eyes locked on the empty space before him.
"Not but a week...."
He'd shrug as the speech came absent minded and without any sense of hesitation. Fighting was easy, it was the politics of the job that was the hard part.

She watched the way he reacted to what she said. The way that he seemed to get lost in his own thoughts. Tilting her head just slightly she watched him, noting also the absent minded manner in which he replied to her question. Finally, after a moment of silence, she cleared her throat just slightly.
"I take it that being a people person hasn't been your strong suite?"
She didn't mean it in a bad way, or as an insult to him, which she hoped was clear in the manner in which she spoke. She was simply making an observation based on his reaction to her own words.
"You know....its easy to get people to like you if you say and do the right things to make them happy.....But its not really worth it if they aren't people you are happy to be around. So......really.....being a people person isn't as great as they say it is...."
With that she offered a little half smile in his direction. Not sure if he would even notice it due to the way he gazed off into the nothingness....But it was there just the same.
She understood what it was like not being a real people person. Sure, she could talk easily enough, but in the end, most people turned out to be backstabbers and liars. Not real friend material if you asked her.
"But thats just me....And I talk to much. Sorry."
Another slight smile, this time more apologetic than anything, before returning to her food before her and averting her eyes downward.

"I take it that being a people person hasn't been your strong suite?"
Immediately his eyes would reassert themselves to focus on her, piercing eyes to match out of both respect and intrigue to her remarks quickly noting his weaker points.
"Haha, yeah sorry about that I tend to nod off..."
Jaus would apologize quickly, hand retreating to the back of his scalp massaging it lightly assuming that the innocent stature would grant him some levity in the situation.
"You know....its easy to get people to like you if you say and do the right things to make them happy.....But its not really worth it if they aren't people you are happy to be around. So......really.....being a people person isn't as great as they say it is...."
Jaus would look back with a measure of serious respect, yeah that much was helpful, to realize that there was someone else who understood just what he would have to go through within the next couple of months if he was lucky.
"But thats just me....And I talk to much. Sorry."
Jaus' left hand would reach out to clasp hers gently, a sign showing just how grateful he was for the input.
"Thanks for that... I mean it, its kinda hard to know the right people. And don't worry, I talk to little."
Jaus would laugh briefly settling the spork in the bowel looking up over his shoulder at the clock and coming to the realization that it was almost time for his next class to start, there was still time though however.

She appreciated the gesture of his hand on hers. Not taking it for anything more than what it was, a genuine show of appreciation.
Shrugging one shoulder slightly she wrinkled her nose for a brief moment.
"Not a problem....Just trying to help. And don't worry so much about how much you talk or who you know. I don't really think being school captain should be based on how much shit you can fill people full of or how cool your friends are. I think its something that should be based on actions."
Slowly she withdrew her hand away and used it to finish off the last bite of her food. It wasn't enough to fully fill her up, but it would be enough to get her through the rest of the day until she was able to go home and fix a snack or stop off and buy something.
Sliding her spork down onto the tray, she picked up her drink and downed a few sips before leaning back more comfortably in her seat.
"Just do what feels right to you and everything else will fall into place. People included."
This time another smile, though this time fuller than the previous ones and a bit more genuine. He seemed like a nice enough guy with a lot of trouble on his mind about a position that so many sought after.
Mia wasn't so dumb that she didnt realize that their were a great amount of politics involved with being the captain of the school. For a guy that didn't talk much and was clearly not too comfortable around people, it could be torture. Besides, he took the position for a reason, put himself in a situation where he knew he was likely to be forced out of his comfort zone.
That had to say something about him. Right?

With a fragile smile and a calm look upward with the signal of the school bell Jaus would shirk himself from the seat standing up and adjusting his clothing to fit him snuggly. He was uncertain where to go with anything but he had a genuinely good idea of what to do next. Though he needed a little bit of insight as to whom she was before making any kind of big steps.
"Sorry to run off on you so quick, cant miss another class."
Jaus would look over his shoulder and take a step towards the exit before doubling back real quick with another firm idea set in place.
"Hey what do you think about meeting up with me say Thursday after school, I enjoyed chatting with you."
With that he'd leave with a yes or no as her reply.
