Thursday. It was the day that she was supposed to meet Jaus after school. Up until today, Mia had not really given the whole thing much thought. Sure, she had enjoyed talking to him in that brief amount of time they had at lunch the other day, and she would be blind not to notice how hot he was. But she wasnt about to get all giddy and pee herself thinking about how one of the hottest boys at this school had asked to talk with her again.
Yeah......not happening.
So, as she sat there outside the school, planted on some bench beside a table, she didn't do what most girls would do. She didnt fluff her hair, she didnt break out the compact and lipstick and try to make herself look more presentable.
It had been a long day......she was tired....and though she didn't look like shit...she did look tired.
So no, no trying to impress with her looks. Instead she sat there with Sylar perched in front of her on the table. One arm was propped up by the elbow allowing her to use the back of her index finger to stroke the feathers that rested upon the falcons chest.
"I don't know why he wanted to meet with me. Pretty sure he has his reasons."
The bird gave her an unsure glance. The same stare she got every time he was unsure of something. But, he understood the need to take risks just as much as Mia did. They were one after all.
Letting out a little huff of breath Mia moved her fingers over the top of his head. Just a brief touch to sooth his nerves that she could already feel rising.
"Shhh....Don't be so unsettled amore mio....I will be careful. I promise."
Perhaps it was just in the bird nature of her construct to be unsettled around new things, or perhaps it was more a case of that part of herself being personified through him. She was more inclined to think the latter, but that did not stop her from trying to sooth him and herself at the same time.
Deft fingers lightly brushing over the feathers of his wings now and a gentle breeze wafting around them.

Class was stressful, about the same territory of which he'd been in all his life only with a slight urge of added pressure to his load. Let me divulge further as to the differences in his life. Firstly, since becoming captain he'd never had so many people stare at him in such an aggressive fashion hell he'd earned as much through fighting here and there but never on a scale that would be interpreted as politically motivated. It was almost a godsend as the bell gave its timed ring. Everyone rushing from their seats and Jaus granted the opportunity to slink out of his own volition into the courtyard.
A slight tilt of his head would be triggered, looking about to and fro locating where Mia had been, he'd suspect that she was probably not going to be there or late for that. But of course she wasn't the case as he'd catch her sitting by a table out in front having beaten him to the punch. Damn he was always renowned for being early this was a weird train of events. Bashfully he'd pick up speed treading to a small jog before returning to a walk not to appear over eager to run into someone he might actually get to call friend.
"Hey.."
He'd call out once more picking up a small pace before retreating slowly to a walk getting to the tables edge before readjusting the backpack over his shoulder and addressing her once more.
"Mind taking a walk?"
Jaus would incline his head in a shrugging direction towards the nearby park just around the corner of the school. A modest sort of stature to his being slipping palms into his pockets and ready to take to the streets and off campus.

Sylar saw him coming before Mia, recognizing him from the mental image that was produced in Mia's mind. Instantly his feathers began to bristle and a low, uneasy sound escaped his throat.
Mia, of course knew knew what it meant and again she used her fingers to try and sooth him.
"Shh...It will be fine.
With that the bird gave one last disapproving glance and began to settle down........some. Mia on the other hand stayed facing the direction she was until Jaus had come up alongside the table.
Turning her head to face him, she squinted her eyes just slightly at the suns rays, a friendly, welcoming smile on her lips. To his words she gave a soft nods.
"Sounds great. I love going on walks."
She then turned to Sylar and gave a little clicking sound with her tongue. With that the bird shot a glance at Jaus and then turned and lifted off the table and into the sky above.
Shaking her head with a small grin on her lips she stood up and grabbed her bag, sliding it onto her shoulder and stepping over the bench.
"Don't mind him. He doesn't trust anyone. But I have to admit I am curious as to why you asked me here today.
It wasnt spoken with suspicion just a genuine curiosity. Either way, Mia turned and began to head in the direction of the park he had just motioned to.
"You coming?"

"Sounds great. I love going on walks."
With a slight nod he'd look onward with a light sigh noting that the bird had taken flight from her shoulder, not a crow nor a pigeon which generally meant it was house trained meaning of course it wasn't going to be gone forever.
"Cool..."
"Don't mind him. He doesn't trust anyone. But I have to admit I am curious as to why you asked me here today.
She didn't miss a beat either in making note of where his eyes had trekked turning them back of course to her already on her way to the park.
"You coming?"
...ugh yeah!."
He'd quickly pick up his feet moving into a sparse sprint towards her before catching up and returning those hands to his pockets and hanging his head low with the idle question strobing in his noodle.
"Why I asked you here ugh yeah...." He'd stall briefly fumbling over the words, it'd take him awhile to realize he sounded like a nervous boy asking someone out on a date for the first time only coming to a rosy blush and a quick jumbling of his hands from his pockets to cover such a flaw up. "ARE YOU INTERESTED IN WRITING FOR THE SCHOOL PAPER?"
He'd blurt the words out so fast that it'd sound quite aggressive and forced. "I mean, it would be a great club activity and really help with keeping the school orderly, and It'd be a big favor I'd owe you."

As he rushed to catch up, Mia gave a little grin to herself at the way he was acting. She couldn't quite place it, but something about the fact that he was so uncomfortable around people made him almost......cute. Shaking her head at the thought, she slowed her pace to a casual stroll, head turning and tilting slightly at the downward motion of his own head.
Raising her brow, she was about to ask what was wrong when there was a sudden, somewhat aggressive rush of words.
At first she wasn't sure what she had heard, or that he was serious, but once he settled down some, and further explained himself, she stopped dead in her tracks.
"Me? I....."
She paused, not sure what to say. It was an honor really to be offered such a position when she had just met the guy, but was she really sure she could do it?
Yes....yes she was.
"I would be happy to. I mean....I will do my best. But....why me?"
She would again pick up her stroll, a casual pace as before, her eyes going between him and the path ahead.
"And I have a way you can pay me back....If you are interested?"
A little grin curling on her lips. Just in front of them, she noted the way that Sylar had found a branch on a nearby tree to perch and watch over her. She tried not to let him get so close when she was dealing with new people, it was just too risky, not to mention he could see more from a distance than she could up close sometimes.
All the while, his questioning gaze burrowing into her. He knew what she was up to, but he didn't know why.

"I would be happy to. I mean....I will do my best. But....why me?"
Jaus grinned, he'd casually clasp his chin thoughtfully figuring why he came to this decision. Truth was he didn't know anybody too much and one was just as good as another he supposed, but even more so was the fact that a person who was neutral, it made so much more.
"Well to be honest you seemed impartial. And if anyone is to account for the course of history here it could be you. Not to mention you relate to people well, nothing says good writing like relating."
He'd thumbed over the reasons and was coming to the ideal that these things needed to be seen through. Perhaps with an intellectual patience to which he was unprivileged to.
"And I have a way you can pay me back....If you are interested?"
Now Jaus was confused, of course he wanted to repay her but he was totally lost as to how he could do it. "Huh? What?"

She smiled at the reasoning. Honestly, most people probably would have wanted something better to go along with why they got singled out for something, but not Mia. She was happy with the reasoning behind his asking her. It made sense, was practical and impartial. Just more things adding to the good qualities of the guy beside her.
Then when she mentioned paying her back, she noted that somewhat bewildered, stressed look he got about him. Already she was starting to notice that slight look as him being taken off his guard.
With a little laugh she shook her head and reached up to gently nudge his arm.
"Try not to look so taken back. Its not like I am gonna ask for your soul or anything."
Another light shake of her head and she was back to walking casually along the path. Every now and again she looked up to where Sylar had perched himself to watch over her from the usual distance he chose.
"See...There is this movie playing at one of the theaters downtown. Not one of those big ones, but one of those little joints that everyone forgets even exists....."
And now she was rambling. Growling to herself she bit her bottom lip rather harshly to get herself under control and then took a deep, slow breath.
"Anyway.....Its a classic movie...No fancy graphics and stuff.....But its really good, and just the atmosphere of the place is amazing.......Annnnd I am rambling aren't I?"
Already she felt the heat in her cheeks rise. Not usually one to get caught off guard by her own ramblings, she had to admit this was just a bit embarrassing.
"You can take me."
That last bit rushed as if the words were fire in her mouth. But it was the only way that she could think to get the words out without rambling on for another ten minutes about absolutely nothing important.
Now, eyes ahead and down to the ground. That was the best way to handle this. Sure, she was being a little unorthodox about the whole thing, but it was one of those things that seemed like a good idea at the time.

"See...There is this movie playing at one of the theaters downtown. Not one of those big ones, but one of those little joints that everyone forgets even exists....."
He would scratch his head in something of a confused manner, not trying to come off by any means as offensive he'd just never been caught in this position before. Enough so of course he didn't know what to figure just what this position was.
"Anyway.....Its a classic movie...No fancy graphics and stuff.....But its really good, and just the atmosphere of the place is amazing.......Annnnd I am rambling aren't I?"
A stupor look on his face with a single nod not entirely paying attention to the walkway before them now turning rocky with the decorations of the park causing him to stumble a bit her and there before finding his edge and once more his footing.
"You can take me."
Thats when suddenly the moment of shock would hit. Was she asking him out? Granted he was shy, but he was traditional and this was just.... odd? No that wasn't the right word and he doubted he would catch onto what the right word was in this scenario but soon. Yes soon.
"I uh? What? I mean..." Fumbling for words of course once again the the sort that was unintentional, "Sure, that could be fun."

This was a bad idea.....this was a very bad idea.....At least that was the initial thought racing through her mind as she watched the looks of both confusion and shock race across his face.
What on earth had she been thinking? It wasn't like he was into her because of her shining personality or her rocking good looks.......Gah...She could be such a moron sometimes.....
Then....just when she was about to take back what she had just said, or make up some lame excuse as to why she had gone that route in the first place.....He agreed.
He looked like he had just narrowly escaped being hit by a bus, but he said yes.
"Cool. I know this is a little......strange...But I just thought....Honestly....I dont know what I thought. It just seemed like a good idea."
A slightly nervous laugh as she finally noticed the change in the terrain under her feet. She had been just a tad bit distracted by the confusion she had set him into.
She also noticed the painful burning starting in her lungs. Not having noticed until just now that she had actually been holding her breath waiting for some kind of reply.
Yeah way to play it cool Mia.
Reaching up to tuck her hair behind her ear once more, more out of nervous habit than an actual need to do so, she looked up at him and smiled somewhat sheepishly.
"I guess I was just thinking that its a lot of fun....and it really kinda sucks going by yourself....And well out of all the guys I have met, you are by far the best.....So...A plus B equals C."
There she went rambling again. But honestly, it was the truth. In her time here she had met several highschool jocks, a really nice gay guy, a really nice guy with a sorta cocky edge to him, and a psychopath.
So yeah.....Jaus was by far ahead of any of them. At least in her book. Now did she expect anything to really come of it? No...Mia didn't plan that far ahead.
She was just looking to have fun with a guy she liked, doing something she loved to do.
"But yeah....the movie starts at nine."
She left it at that, eyes leaving him and the pathway to check on Sylar who was perched just a couple yards ahead. Oh if looks could kill. But then, he was always just looking out for her.

"Cool. I know this is a little......strange...But I just thought....Honestly....I dont know what I thought. It just seemed like a good idea."
Huh?
Right back again to the very unobservant, very dim quality that Jaus had represented upon many other occasions. Granted he was caught off guard earlier but he didn't understand why she was nervous about anything as it'd been made apparent she had more balls than he.
"I guess I was just thinking that its a lot of fun....and it really kinda sucks going by yourself....And well out of all the guys I have met, you are by far the best.....So...A plus B equals C."
Jaus would laugh breifly turning his head away and would continue walking turning his head upwards to speak however briefly it was.
"No need to explain I get it....and I think the analogy you're looking for is 1+1=2"[/color[
nerd
In actuality he started doing small homework assignment math equations in his head easily distracted by the basic Algebra referenced. AB = BA then B = 1 A = X
Nerd
"But yeah....the movie starts at nine."
He'd nod turning only to notice her break from the path and take after her hawk so he assumed. "Kay..."
He'd pause there in the road indecisive whether to take off and head home or curiously pursue for knowledge. The result of which lead to him standing there innocently in the way of the path. Ignorant of potential bikers taking flight behind him.

Well, at least now she didn't feel so out of place. Once the initial nerves of the whole thing had passed, she actually felt sorta confident about her decision.
Coming to a stop as he did, she gave a little laugh at his correction of her analogy. Cute and a nerd. Not necessarily a bad combination.
As she reached up to tuck her hair behind her ear, she stepped off to the side slightly, not wanting to be in the center of bike path.
"Cool."
Reaching around to her side, she slid her bag off her shoulder and around to the front of her. It allowed her to access it and pull out a small sliver of paper and a pen.
On it, she jotted down her address and phone number....complete of course with her name. Cause yeah, nothing worse than finding a slip of paper with a number and no name to remind you who's it was. Heh.
When she was done, she threw the pen back in her bag and zipped it close, sliding it back into position.
"Here. Now you know where and how to find me."
Handing him the slip of paper, she waited until he took it and then reached out to grasp his arm and pull him out of the way of a set of bikers zipping down the path.
Once they had wizzed by, she released his arm and offered a small smile in his direction.
"School Captain taken out by bikers....Not exactly the kinda headline I wanna write."
