TICK TOCK....TICK TOCK
The clock on the wall counted each passing second with a hum. Rina sighed quietly and tapped a finger on the book she had laying before her. "Boooorreeed!" she thought, letting her head drop onto the pages of the textbook.
TICK TOCK....TICK....
Was the whole school so dull and boring? She sighed and propped her head up in her hand, elbow on the book and wrinkling the crisp, white pages. Her azure gaze scanned the quiet library. How boring....
TICK TOCK....TICK TOCK....

An echo of laughter, cool, controlled, extroverted laughter would fill the otherwise quiet corridors of the library with it bringing the drawl of uncertain gazes. The quiet mutterings and whispers trailed along the causeways finding him at the very center of the library's heart, the bookcases framing a makeshift cove of safety or perhaps even in his mind a Colosseum for ill deeds.
"Please Mr. Delacroix, keep it down."
"My apologies Madame Dupree, I was just making my point..."
With the inclination of his right hand and the tap of his fingers the Queen on the board would move across the table into a pincer movement finishing off her foes.
"Checkmate."
A wry grin turned glare as his opponent backed up from the table, his face flushed and a stack of bills left on the table. Lucas would wait a beat before reaching his hand across the table and filing through the bills counting meticulously.

A peal of laughter rose up.
TICK TOCK....TICK....
The humming clock's sounds faded as Rina looked up, curious. That sounded like a laugh of triumph. In one, fluid motion, she stood and appeared around the side of the bookcase, gaze drifting until she saw the source of laughter. A chess board sat on the table in front of the grinning victor. Rina's jade eyes lit up and a slow smirk appeared on her lips. She approached the boy and stood behind him, off to his left.
"I see you're quite the master mind, aren't you?" she spoke lowy, so as not to disturb the quietness, and took one step forward, tapping the small stack of money with one finger from over his shoulder before moving to drop into the now empty seat. She crossed her legs and leaned forward, placing her chin in her hand as she rested her elbow on her knee. "Care to accept my challenge?"
Edit Note: Finally got to a PC!!^^ All better.

The man would grin, inhaling the alluring scent which was her for but a moment, his eyes barely visible as they were veiled by his heavy eye lashes. Taking a beat to slide away the cash into his breast pocket layered behind a black vest he'd grin taking to let his eyes travel up and down his new opponent sitting across from him. A hasty gleam in his amethyst hues taking quite a liking to her already; aggressive, seemingly intelligent, and apparently daring. He'd grin silently turning his body face upwards to position himself in the chair upright before thumbing at the board.
The best masterminds are those who play the idiot."
Lucas would say with some confidence, though he felt as though vanity was by far his greatest sin. He'd never been that good to be the greatest manipulator. Only second best.
"Care to accept my challenge?"
"So long as you concede to my terms, loser forfeits $50."
It was pond scum, but this was a school, in due time as his gang grew he figured he'd be growing that numeral supremely.
[ooc: looking for an online board, coding one is far too irritating and confusing *knows unfortunately from experience.]

The look he was giving her made her roll her eyes. Another charmer, so it seemed. She shifted slightly and defty scooped up all the black pieces, placing them on the board in their correct positions. "Of course." she replied, the only sign of her amusement showing in her eyes. Other than that, her expression was quite blank. Her reply was an answer to both his first and scond statements.
She leaned back and crossed her arms loosely over her chest, waiting for him to decide on wether or not he was going to play. Of course, she knew he was going to. She could see it in his eyes. They seemed almost purple and she wondered at that fact.
By now, she'd completly forgotten her annoyance at the ticking wall clock, her eyes trained on the boy across from her and the chess board. "Oh, and by the way. I'm Rina Vade, but most call me Rin." she offered, nodding at him.

Rina, the interesting sort as she scooped up his pieces. He considered them his as he had always chosen Black as his position of pieces. Glaring downwards at the scattered white pieces scattered at his front he'd glower. The pieces bore some symbolism to him, he'd never considered himself a white knight, he was always the dark emperor. His hands would trail up figuring the pieces into their appropriate spots his hand finally resting on the White Queen curiously peering up as he made a mental note that she was the one who had chosen Black. Be it by some cruel coincidence or her "considerate" nature maybe he could read into her personality much easier than most would on first impressions. "Lucas, Delacroix if it bears any significance."He'd let his wispy voice linger in the air a moment, a beat to his breath as the lips lingered parted teeth gleaming through and eyes narrowed first on her than the board and his index skipped once over picking his pawn and moving it forward into the fray. "So Rina, lets play."There was a tug at the corner of his eyes highlighted with some foul sort of sport in the frame of his mind, such a playful mind, always a game ready for the taking. {Pawn D2 -> D4} ~Rina~ ~Lucas~

A slight scowl on the boys behalf made Rina wonder if she should offer to switch sets with him. No sooner had she thought this, however, then he picked up the white pieces and set them on his side of the board accordingly. His expression turned thoughtful. Rina pulled her legs under her to sit Indian-style in the chair and leaned forward slightly, raven hair slipping over her shoulders and framing her pale face as her azure eyes watched the board. One corner of her lips twitched up slightly in a smile when he spoke his name.
"Lucas, Delacroix if it bears any significance."
She watched as he reached out, his fingers lingering over a pawn before moving it forward two steps. Her eyes narrowed in concentration as she calculated different steps she could take and what would happen possibly twelve steps ahead into the game. Instantly, she discarded two very obvious moves and settled on also moving her own pawn forward.
Glancing up at him with a rare smile, Rina lifted the black piece and moved hers forward, diagonal to his white pawn and to the left. Nothing wrong with letting a few pieces go sometimes. She sat back, the smile still there.
"Well, it's very nice to meet you, Lucas." she replied smoothly, ice-blue eyes glimmering amusedly. Finally, what seemed to be a good challenge was before her. She wondered...would he take her pawn or leave it? Her gaze shifted back to the board, waiting for him to make his move.

His eyes glimmered for a second at first ignoring the board, his attention was otherwise pervasive towards her stature. The innocent, even childish stature of the crossed legs formed into an upright position either suggested a measure of focus or childish background. Parents or family that loved her, supported her schooling that led to her being accustomed to sitting as such. As for her glimmering smile and polite outlook towards their engagement as well as meeting one another only bolstered his analysis of such a conclusion. Lucas hadn't had that luck in life.
Lucas prided himself on the fact that sacrificing pawns for the cause was all a part of the grand scheme, but just as well he only employed this cause he restrained himself for but a moment moving the pawn forward but another motion. This otherwise immobilized forward progression of quite a few pieces not to mention saved himself a piece on the board for later.
"I could say the same, but I don't know you, and I don't like surprises."
He'd glower for a moment with the charming smile giving away the sense that he had no fear of how this game would turn out. Almost an intoxicating degree of confidence. All the while he took every opponent seriously, the fact that he resigned the thought that this girl was entirely innocent caused him to fret and worry within his mind. Always that interpretation of people were those that most surprised you in the end. But of course there was always something to be salvaged from any engagement Friend or Foe.
