Ok, I was just introduced to picnik.com and I am absolutely obsessed with it. I love making pics look good! So, here are a few that I've made so far.^^

I don't know how much you can do with programs that you're using, but maybe try getting some effects with the words. Outlining them usually makes them look pretty nice for normal fonts. Or try to get some renders and make your own backgrounds for them. I think maybe some borders around the images would make them look nice. A thin, plain black border usually does the trick.
