The world continued to turn, that fact was always true. Who was in power, what lines were drawn on a map, and the faces that rose to greet each dawn always changed, but the world continued to turn just the same.
The man thinking these thoughts was sitting alone on a bench in a park that had seen better days. No one had seen to the land and there were pieces of garbage and broken limbs from trees on the ground. In short the place was a mess.
The man himself was surprisingly well kept for how things were now. He was dressed in jeans and a button down shirt with steel toed boots on his feet. His clothing was clean, despite the long distance he had traveled. His hair was trimmed into a high and tight and his face was clean shaven. the scar that ran from about the middle of his forehead to the center of his left cheek was clearly visible.
"So... what to do first?" He muttered to himself thoughtfully. He had his orders of course. The end of the world had come as most people thought of it, but Perdition still remained. The organization and it's sister groups were surprisingly affected very little by the changes of the world. Of course, one had to understand what their purpose was in the first place. Perdition's job was a simple one really, make sure humanity saw another dawn.
A lot had changed when this 'Baker' had destroyed most of the modern weaponry of the world, but really he had made Perdition's job easier by doing so. Before hand all it would have taken was a push of the button in some cases and the world would have been gone. Now, though humanity was in shambles, that wouldn't be a threat for a long while now. Sure there would be a lot of pain and suffering in the short run, but by the time humanity got up to it's old level of capabilities maybe it would be a little wiser. Not likely, but one could dream.
But small things like the Internet being taken down and most forms of motor transportation being taken out left a small problem. The archives of various caches of equipment and information that Perdition and it's sister organizations had around the globe had to be reclaimed and restored to the organization. And on top of that, the man had to make sure that none had accessed the information in those caches.
After all, Perdition was just a myth in the age of information. It would remain a myth in the new dark age. And in the future, well... It would probably still be in the shadows, making sure that humanity still had a future.
One way or the other...
However, the man had just finished walking from the east coast to California in a relatively short time. He could afford to relax for a short while. Pulling a Sudoku book out of one pocket and a pen out of another, he resolved to start his task after he finished a puzzle or two.
