Her eyes occasionally darken with her mood, and often are mistaken for the color of jade. Her dark hair reaches to about mid-thigh and is straight, but with slight waves near the ends. She usually wears dark colored clothes, and dislikes the color pink. Her favorite color is, of course, black. She can tolerate light colors, just not pink. Description of style: Like most Kendo users, Rina has speed on her side, and the ability to use her momentum to her advantage, thus making her kicks extremely powerful. Despite her lack of brute strength, she can use her forward movement to make her kicks stronger and a lot more dangerous. She has great agility and flexibility, making it easier for her to find openings in an opponent’s defenses and exploit them (which is what she loves to do anyway; exploit peoples weaknesses…). The basic form of Kendo is for the user to block any and all incoming attacks with their hands and/or arms and retaliate with kicks, such as roundhouses. This has its advantages and disadvantages alike.
For advantages, their speed increases greatly, as does their agility and defense. For disadvantages, the user’s ability to throw punches lowers, and their chance of being unable to attack increases, for if they cannot attack with their legs, they are helpless. In order to prevent this, Kendo users are careful to not let their opponents catch hold of their legs or knock them off balance. Similarly, the user will try to knock their opponent off balance or into a tree or wall. When this is done, if their adversary is not out cold from the impact, they execute a flying-side kick to the chest, knocking the wind out of them or finally K.O.’ing them.

History: Rina was 4 years old the first time her mother went to jail. She remembers sitting on that dirty kitchen counter in the little rundown apartment, her expression blank as her mother was taken away. Even at such a young age, she didn’t show a lot of emotions. She wasn’t really close with her mother anyway, and so felt nothing that day. A year later, her mother was released and the home Rina had been taken too gave her back to the wild, paranoid and anti-social woman. There was no father. Rina can’t even recall if she knows his name or not. He left when she was three months old and was never heard from again. Her mother wasn’t sad, Rina noticed…she was probably so caught up in her world anyway – what with the drugs and alcohol – that she didn’t really care. Rina doubted if she even noticed that he was not there, or if she’d ever known. Her birthdays came and went, and soon, Rina was 10 years old and quite the rebel with a hot-temper and fiery spirit to match. She had to grow up fast, had to take care of her sick mother, who was always glancing over her shoulder as if someone was going to attack at any given moment.
Because Rina was so young, she had no clue as to who to ask for help. She didn’t even think about asking for help. She thought there was no one to ask. In her mind, she had to do this on her own. She had to take care of her mother. It wasn’t long before her mother’s stealing and drug-use caught up to her. A group of thugs who had given her some drugs came looking for her when she never got them the money she owed them. Rina heard them as they broke down the apartment door and stomped in, their voices loud and boisterous, echoing off the thin walls. She hid under the bed as her mother stood to confront them. They were hostile from the start. In the end, her mother was killed and they noticed the little raven-haired girl hiding in the shadows under the bed. Her piercing blue gaze was defiant, and her attitude was something they liked. They decided to take her in.
Ryuku was their leader, and he thought of Rina as a little sister after a while. He began teaching her how to fight to defend herself and soon found that she was best in Kendo. She was sly and cunning, and could easily slip past another’s defenses. Ryuku liked this and let Rina become a full-fledged member of his gang when she turned 14 years old. Another year passed. Rina had enjoyed her time with her ‘family’ and was grateful for all they had taught her and all they had done for her, but she wanted to go and do other things. Like go to school.
Rina enrolled in Public High School #259 on a wet, dreary and rainy day. The weather kind of fit her mood. Bittersweet. She would miss Ryuku and his gang that she so considered her family, she would miss the play fights that seemed to be for real as she tested her strength against others, she’d even miss the growling dog that didn’t like her at first, but had been her best friend when he had gotten used to her. She would miss all those things…but now, she was going to go to school, and there were a lot of things that she was excited about. Learning, experiencing new things, meeting new people, observing and maybe even helping. Also, the fact that this school was known for having some pretty good fighters. With a determined expression, Rina walked to her first class.
Now, with the high school destroyed and the world in chaos, Rina has totally forget Ryuku and her past. She is more focused on the present and staying alive.
