Description of style: Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a martial art, combat sport, and a self defense system that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting. The concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger assailant by using leverage and proper technique – most notably by applying joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat the other person. BJJ training can be used for sport grappling tournaments (gi and no-gi) and mixed martial arts (MMA) competition or self-defense. Sparring (commonly referred to as "rolling") and live drilling play a major role in training, and a premium is placed on performance, especially in competition, in relation to progress and ascension through its ranking system.
History Information
History: He was a new born left on the door step of an orphanage where he grew up. He would watch his friends come and go from home to home, but he was never picked. He was a shy kid who played by himself most of the time. His favorite thing to do was playing on the jungle gym. That is where he learned most of his gymnastics. One year the orphanage invited Master Mitsuyo Maeda to teach the kids self defense. Akari picked it up pretty quickly. Mitsuyo Maeda noticed something strange about the boy and knew he was gifted. That very day, Mitsuyo Maeda applied to adopt Akari and train him everyday. As Akari trained and understood more about how to control his body and mind, his gift started to come out. When he thought of being lighter and faster, he did so. When he was trying to avoid being flipped or thrown, he became immovable. Mitsuyo Maeda asked him how he was doing this and Akari said he just wills it and he happens. As years past Akari's gift was not allowed in front of Mitsuyo Maeda. He was only allowed to use Jiu Jitsu.
One day Akari had ran some errands for Master Mitsuyo Maeda as usual. As he came home, Master Mitsuyo Maeda was on the floor, grabbing at his chest. As Akari tried to get help, his Master told him to calm down and relax. This is part of life! He said he was proud of him on how mature and discipline he has became. Now it is time for you to spread your wings and to find your purpose in life. You have a gift that could help others. Use it with good intentions. Never use it for gain only for protection. Good bye my son.... As the paramedics arrived, it was to late. Akari was alone for the first time and unsure on what to do. After the funeral, Mitsuyo Maeda lawyers arrived and told him everything was left to him. The land that included the small house and dojo and plenty of money to live off of. The next day, Akari closed everything up and did what his Master told him to do, find his purpose in life.
