-OCC: yeah sorry I changed it recently, wanted to be more balanced, want me to change it back for the rest of this thread?-
as Masaru drew a line on the sidewalk for the start and finish, he stood back and got into a running position.
"say when."

(XDD;; Well, choose one and stick with it... It confuses people >.< But sure, do as you please. ;P)
Emily yawned. "You're too hasty." She said, setting her bag aside and doing some stretches.
One in ten chance you'll get a bad cramp while running, unless you're well stretched. Same goes for swimming; Emily had to learn that the hard way.
She set her body then in a good race position and took a deep breath. "On your mark..."

"You're too hasty."
this reply puzzled Masaru untill he noticed her begin stretching. Crap! Masaru never did running as a sport, but in tennis, you always warmed up before playing, why would running be any different! Oh well, Masaru has learned to never regret a past action, only the consequenses, and mine as well not look like a fool and start doing stretched now after you made a decision. Even if I start out winning, with this much of a distance I will sooner or later probably get some sort of cramps, and Emily will end out being the winner. oh well, Masaru had nothing to lose, it was probably just a small friendly race and shouldn't be much of a problem whoever loses or wins.
"On your mark..."
Masaru tenses up, ready to spring from the finish line.

"Set..."
Emily's eyes closed shut, envisioning a crowd of 50 or a hundred. Noises of cheering rammed onto her ears and into her eardrums, ringing to create the ambiance of a race track on her head.
Her eyes opened, hallucinating and imagining the field into her mind. A second would pass before she breathed out again. "Go."
She sprung forward, taking it slow, increasing speed as she went further.
All people who ran once or twice in their lives know that a speed spurt nearest the finish line conserves more energy, and thus assures more chances of victory.

"Set..."
Musaru envisions himself as the famous samurai, Musashi dueling Gonnosuke for the first time
"While Musashi was in Edo, a man named Musô Gonnosuke came, looking for a match. Gonnosuke was armed with a bokutô (wooden sword). At the moment, Musashi had a willow bow, but he immediately took up a stick to confront Gonnosuke. Without even a nod, Gonnosuke attacked. Musashi struck him down in one stroke. Thwarted, Gonnosuke quit."
Masaru attempts to try and do something like this in the race, using a untrained running style to defeat Emily, who seems like she has been a runner for a long time
"Go."
Masaru dashes forward, already having calculated the distance beforehand, believing he can make it around sprinting half and running the other half.

As she gained speed, Emily leaned forward - making herself more aerodynamic by a bit.
Emily's wooden sandals flew off in random directions as she continued on gaining speed. At around the quarter of the total distance, Emily's eyes burned with determination, her bare feet slamming heavily against concrete and made a dash for the finish line.
She was determined to win.
She has to.

half way there. Masaru thinks to himself, slowing down from a full on sprint to a reasonable run... I seem to have miscalculated... Masaru thought after turning round the second corner of the library. The distance seemed farther than he thought it was beforehand after sprinting half the jog. Must persist! half way.... There!

Emily's eyes began to become blurry as she approached the finish line. She was getting tired.
Oh no, please don't faint!
A deep breath and a spurt of energy took Emily faster than she was the past few seconds, almost leaping in desperation and the shots of adrenaline pumped into her bloodstream.
She did it.
She passed the finish line, to whom came first she didn't care; Emily was now a foot away from the line, face-first onto the ground and barely awake.

I'm going to win! Masaru thinks to himself as he is just a few seconds away from the finish line. Yes, just like the famous samurai Musashi, he shall win by using an untrained style. Just like Musashi... And then the cramps came... Several steps away from the finish line Masaru breaks down on the side of the sidewalk in a heap of pain... Owch! after coming to several moments later Masaru notices Emily streak pass the finish line. DEFEAT!

Barely awake, but not asleep... the girl's consciousness picked up several hints of someone in pain.
She sat up slowly, reorienting herself with her surroundings and realized she was barefoot. No wonder her feet felt a bit sore.
Emily made her way towards her opponent, looking at him somewhat blankly. "Where does it hurt...?" She asked, somewhat monotonously...
Yup, she was conscious... just barely awake... fatigued. Tired.

Luckily, when Masaru fell down on the sidewalk, he unconsiously fell the way he was trained to by his tutor in a way that he didn't cause any damage besides a few scrapes here and there, but as Emily walked towards him, he realized the cramps in his legs temporarily made them twitch for a few moments.
"Where does it hurt...?"
Masaru, who was sheltered his whole life, and trained endlessly by his tutor with no signs of emotion, couldn't help but let out a few tears after hearing such kind words for the first time he remembered. Masaru tried to sound calm and collected as he replied to Emily's question.
"I'm fine, just shaken up a little bit, how about you? looks like you took quite a fall after finishing the race, well that was fun."

"I'm fine, just shaken up a little bit, how about you? looks like you took quite a fall after finishing the race, well that was fun."
Emily's face feigned a smile, blank but true. "... Yokata... honto ni yokata..."
Her eyes closed for a bit, before falling to her right into a deep sleep. She was tired, and her body still wasn't able to take that much sudden stress... but this was better than it was before.
Maybe with time, she'll find a way that she wouldn't be so tired after running.
Emily's mind slowly fell into unconciousness, wandering where her sandals had gone to... and if here bag was still there, where she left it.

Well, Masaru seems to have found himself in an interesting situation... What to do, what to do! Masaru's mind races, lets see, seems like we may have a problem here. Emily is unconsious in front of him, sandalless, and seems like she might have a couple injuries here and there... So much for the 'and neither of us get hurt!' comment Masaru made before.
Masaru gently moved Emily under the tree in front of the library, placing her bag next to her. After a few minutes masaru finds her sandals in fairly good condition and makes his way back to the tree where he left Emily...

Nighttime fell before Emily managed to wake up from her sleep. After a quick scan of her surroundings, she found herself leaning against a tree... with her sandals and her bag right next to her. Did Masaru find them for her?
She rubbed the sleep off her eyes, quickly noting how dark it was... "...what... time is it?" she asked herself.

-OOC: haha I didn't think you would interpret it like that, but I guess someone could. I was going back to the place where I left you, I didn't actually leave you! That would be heartless - "...what... time is it?" Masaru woke from his light sleep up on one of the tree branches, and ended up falling off next to Emily, luckily he landed on his rear. He didnt know what to do when she didn't wake for several hours, after he left Emily there, he spent a while looking for someone to help, but couldn't find anyone. He didnt know if she broke or sprained anything and his teachings told him not to move someone if they have any injuries so he just climbed up into the tree and made sure that she was safe. Masaru didn't know exactly when he fell asleep but judging by the darkness, he quickly answered her question. "Owch... I'm glad you finally woke up, I was scared for a moment there. I would say judging from the time of the race, and how dark it is, it must be around 8 pm. Sorry, When you fainted I panicked. I couldn't find any help to move you anywhere so I just watched you from on top of this tree."
