The fifteenth day of night. The end of the cycle. The sun comes up tomorrow.
-
Ruby's inner-eye HUD would display a notification for an incoming message.
Pvt. Jackson,
Orders have been received. Please standby for transmission:
As you know, the sun comes up for the beginning of the Suncycle tomorrow, which is a high time for Engel activity in the immediate area. We are anticipating a large number of aggressive Engels in and around the area just East of the city.
You are to start a patrol at 0400 hours, approximately 2.5 hours before the sun rises. The coordinates are being sent to you now. If you encounter any Engels before sunrise, dispatch them as quickly as possible; once the sun is up you'll have more than a challenge in front of you.
With Luck, Major Blackthorne
By Ruby's chronometer, he had 10 hours before his mission. Knowing that this stakeout might take him all day, maybe packing some supplies would be best? OR you could just party 'til dawn. Ruby knew of at least 4 different 'Last night of night' raves going on.

PARTY ROCK.
Now although Ruby was a party animal himself, he also didn't want to end up running out of supplies halfway during his mission. So he would pack some supplies and prepare himself THEN go to one of the four "Last night of night" raves he knew of. He'd pack no less than a dozen of the small metal balls he had used against the family of Engels he had eliminated, a spare set of clothes, a reflective blanket, and plenty of food and water bottles. All stored inside his lightweight but durable backpack. With his preparations complete, including his plasma blade fully charged, it was party time! And so Ruby would head out and party until dawn, making sure to come back to his apartment in time to get an hour of sleep, because that was all he needed.
Mission time go! He'd head out through the East entrance, his backpack secured on his back and his plasma blade attached to his belt, and immediately leap into the nearest tree, swiftly but silently moving eastwards, eventually hunkering down in a tree far from the city walls, where he would sit and wait.

A backpack, how old-fashioned! Three people commented as to your retro fashion sense as you left the city.
The first hour was quiet, apart from the slight breeze that accompanied the last remnants of the darkness.
Then, from Ruby's perch, he saw a light coming up from the horizon. Yes. The sun. It was glorious and beautiful, in all its glorious splendor. The warmth filled through Ruby's bones, like coming in from the cold. You get the point, it was really enjoyable.
And apparently, the Engels thought so, too, for as soon as the sun kissed the lowest point of the sky, a collective roar came up from the brush, from all around. The ground started to rumble as the creatures worked themselves into a frenzy. There were still none in sight, but Ruby could feel them getting closer.

Ruby liked his retro gear, what could he say? He just gives the three people that commented a big 'ol grin before heading out of the city. Once he was outside though, he went into hunter mode, and would take off, moving quickly and quietly, settling into a perch soon after. As the first rays of the sunlight hit his face, his bones would warm up, sending a warm feeling tingling through his body. He wasn't the only one it seemed, as a collective roar issued from afar, followed by a rumbling that shook the tree he was perched in.
There were no Engels as far as the eye could see, but Ruby could feel them coming closer. And he was ready for them. Pulling out half a dozen of the small metal balls from his backpack, and readying his plasma blade in his other hand, he would watch and wait.

Ruby felt the rumbles from all around him, and sometimes it felt like they were closing in on the Feather. The first few Engels that came into view were fighting amongst each other, trying to kill each other for dominance, or perhaps for better mating status. There were four of them, about twenty meters away from Ruby's current position. They circled each other, slamming their giant jaws into one another mid-air as they leaped for one another, using their teeth to rip and tear away flesh.

Time to begin.
With the rumbling felt all around him, like they were closing in on him, as the first few Engels came into view, pulling a small metal ball from the side pocket of his backpack, activating it and winding up, Ruby would toss the metal ball, hopefully landing dead center in the middle of the fighting Engels, which would release a huge blanket of smoke. At the same time, Ruby would pull his plasma blade out, activating it and drop down from the tree, effectively appearing like he had dropped from the very sky itself, and go in to take out one of the Engels while they were hopefully confused and disoriented from the smoke.
If he succeeded, he'd then move on to the next one, to take it out, and would rinse and repeat the process, before leaping back up into a nearby tree once all the Engels had been taken out, hopefully before the smoke cleared. Then he'd wait once more.

As Ruby jumped back up into his perch after the bloody slaughter, the stench of blood stayed with him. He wouldn't have to wait long. The rumble in the ground grew louder as the blood from the Engels attracted attention. Attention of the pretty huge kind. This time, they weren't wandering. Two hulking Engels stepped out of the darkness into vision, sniffing about and heading straight for Ruby's position. Snarling. Hungry.

And then the big boys entered into the fray. Grinning slightly as they sniffed and snarled, hungry and out for blood, pulling out a second metal ball from his backpack, Ruby would activate it and drop it down below him. And then covered his eyes as a brilliant flash of light emitted from the device inside the metal ball, to try and blind the Engels.
If the Engels were successfully blinded, Ruby would leap down from the branch high above, his plasma blade pointed straight down, and try to slam his blade straight into the Engel's brain, to kill it, and would slide his blade cleanly out from the Engel's brain, before moving onto the other Engel, staying low to the ground and when he was close enough, would try and stab upwards at the Engel's brain, to take it out as well. Then it was back to his perch up in another tree.

With a flash of light, and a sudden drop, the two Engels now lay dead, but not without the second Engel sending a menacing roar that echoed all around the area. Now, with the roar fading, an eerie quiet came about the forest, and as the blood-soaked figure of Ruby jumped up to his tree-perch, no sound could be heard for the rest of the time the sun touched the horizon. Then, as the blood-red sun finally lifted itself fully away from the horizon, a sound could be heard coming from the distance. A low rumble that reverberated through the trees, causing Ruby's body to vibrate. Thump, thump, thump, thump, THUMP, THUMP, THUMP, THUMP, THUMP, THUMP,THUMP, THUMP,THUMP, THUMP.....
ROOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRUh... That's the biggest Engel Ruby had ever seen, even heard of. It was monstrous, he would even say it was colossal. It was easily twice the height of the very peak of the dome. And he, well, he was looking for Ruby.
