No one knew, and if they did, they didn't remember.
She was humming.
Little Jenesis sat on the rocks with her legs dangling and feet dipped into the water, her white dress stained with blotches of sand and hair pulled up into a tight ponytail. The sun was about to set within the hour and the tides were growing larger by the second- but still, the petite blonde stayed put as if unconcerned about all that was around her.
Which was ironic, because she wasn't at the coast. She was at a manmade lake somewhere in the middle of Barker territory, and the waves that crashed were ones she manipulated because of her rising boredom-- which, came to a sudden stop when the sound of padded footsteps drew closer and closer.
Even though she knew she wasn't alone, still she was sad- it had been a while since she saw daddy, and none of the Children nor members of the Enforcers seemed to know of his whereabouts.
And now, she really wasn't alone.
She tilted her head up to find a couple men standing behind her, fully dressed in Barker uniform. She stared. They stared back. One blue and one red eye curiously blinked at them before catching a look of recognition from one of the men.
Her humming slowed down with perfect timing; she neared the end of the song Happy Birthday just as one of the men made a move to grab her. Successful, because she wasn't fighting back. Today was a special day- mother nature was on her side indefinitely.
"No, no, no."
She shook her head and repeated the same word another three times.
"No, NO, NO."

The man who grabbed her, the one with the leer in his eyes?
An arm, the size of a tree trunk, came over his right shoulder and wrapped around his neck. The other one, to the left, was crying out with pain as the blonde mans left hand held onto his hair. The one manhandling two of the three men wore a cowboy hat, boots, a rolled up striped shirt and a wheat stalk in his mouth. His eyes were shaded by the lip of his hat as a grin creased his mouth. He spoke with a deep southern accent.
"Don't yeh fellows know it's bad luck teh piss on someone's birthday?"
With a quick jerk, he snapped the mans neck he held in his right hand. The one he held with his left hand continued to struggle while the freed man stabbed out with a spear. John stepped back and moved the mans friend into the path of the spear, the point entering the guys throat. He let the now dying dude go, turning and kicking the last one in the chest and cracking his sternum as he flew back into the lake. The six foot six cowboy turned to the girl who was humming and, using his left hand pushed up his hat to look down at her kindly, before his eyebrows came up. This tiny blonde reminded him of....of....
He crouched, slowly offering his right hand.
"Are yeh...yeh alright miss?"

RED.
She stared at the blood.
Nopenopenope, not going to think about life and death- not today; today was her day and as selfish as that sounded, nothing was going to upset her. Her eyes flickered up to the large male with the kind smile and she gave one in return, totally disregarding the bodies as if they weren't even there.
In fact, even if the man wasn't paying attention, he would hear the grounds rumbling and the bodies slowly sinking into the dirt. And she still disregarded everything that was going on.
"Hi, hi. I'm okay, are you- uh..."
A pause.
"Well, you look like you're okay."
Just an observation.

The floor rumbled beneath him, causing him to plant a hand on the ground and glance around him as the bodies were pulled into the ground. His eyes widened as he looked down at the floor, holding as still as possible. He would glance up at her as he held out a hand to indicate the girl should be as still as possible.
"Uh...fer now. But is....this ground is a little bit special. Am I about to sink in next or....?"
He had little experience regarding Qi, and had no idea why the ground sank and ate the bodies like they did.... Now he was just freaked out.

"Huh?"
Her eyes traced back toward the sinking bodies and made a small 'o' shape with her mouth, then proceeded to grin and shake her head.
"Nope! Not unless you try anything not nice!"
By the time she finished talking, the bodies would have completely disappeared. Her feet kicked at the water again, briefly, before turning herself completely around to face the mister Southerner. Except she didn't know he was a Southerner because she didn't really associate accents with a particular location. Actually, all she really thought was-
"You talk funny!"

John cocked an eyebrow before slowly lowering himself onto his rump.
"Uhh...if yeh say so."
When she mentioned he talked funny, he made a surprised face for half a moment before he laughed. The girl was, possibly at the oldest, sixteen, and at the youngest, thirteen. So he wasnt terribly miffed by her open statement about his accent. He knew it was thick, and plenty of others had mentioned it (though with a bit more tact) so he would lean in calmly, grinned.
"Yeh ever think maybe it's me that speaks normal like, and you what talks funny?"
He mused the question calmly, and would wink if she looked in his direction.

"Noooooooooo because everyone talks like me but only you talk like yooooou."
She sat cross legged now and looked up at him, curious.
"What'cha doing here, mister?"
Not what he was doing in the area, though that definitely could have been it. She was wondering why he stuck around after silencing the men. She didn't even realize she was in Barker's territory until she saw the men in uniform.

John nodded half-heartey, as though considering her argument.
"Ah, well, maybe. But just kuz a larger numberuh people do something a certain way don't make it right. After all, if that were true, those three men woulda been right to do whatever they want, since theres only oneuh you, yeh follow?"
He paused- he realized he was discussing philisophical semantics with a thirteen year old. He looked up over the lake and smiled. The girl had this strange air of innocence about her, and rather than tell her the truth of his dark hunts, he settled on a lie that would fit the situation.
"Same thing you are, I spect. This place is peaceful, and beautiful. I came to enjoy theh view."
He turned his bright green eyes back to her.
"You was soundin' out happy birthday, earlier. How young are yeh then?"
He said it as a joke to indicate her small size and youth.
