David chuckled. Why did he even ask? He turned around and grabbed ingredients and a pan, sticking the cereal back on top of the fridge. He would start up the waffle iron while Les was talking to Maddie. The question asked was a deep one, and perhaps the reason for it was, at this moment, the white haired woman planned to ask permission from the small girl.
"Uh huh. I love it here. Why..?"
The girl turned around to look at Les before looking between her and David a moment.
"We're not...moving, are we mom?"
Davids hand slipped on the handle of the pan, though he caught it and the fluid easily with air, glancing over his shoulder and cocking an eyebrow. While pleased that she was happy, she was both surprised that Maddie would think they were moving, and a little shocked to hear the girl already call Olesya mom.

Mom...? The emotions welling up inside of Olesya were incredible, she blinked hard a couple times and let out a watery laugh. She cleared her throat, gaining controlling over the emotions that the one word had created, hugging Maddie close.
"No, no no...we're staying right here. What I actually wanted to ask you...heh...well, David and I were talking, we've talked about this for a bit now, and we wanted to see how you felt about us adopting you...as your parents."
Her voice faltered again at the very end, and she looked up at David before looking back down at Maddie, gauging her reaction. She didn't even notice that she was holding her breath...

Maddie seemed a little more relaxed as Olesya kept talking, before a big grin lit her face at the end. She looked to David, who was smiling and leaning against the counter, watching while he waited for the iron to head up.
"You'd be my Daddy too?"
David nodded.
"Of course, Maddie. I already consider you mine, anyway."
The little girl would turn and hug Olesya, giving out a little "yay" before turning around fully and putting both her hands on the side of Olesyas face, her knees resting on Olesyas lap.
"Please adopt me, please!? I'd be the best daughter ever and never make you guys mad."
David laughed.
"That's a big promise, yknow!"
He winked at Olesya, waiting.

Olesya had grown up in a big loving family, she could never begin to understand what it was like for Maddie to fend for herself in the decade she has been on this earth. But the life in her eyes and the hope in her expression indicated that this was a very big thing for her. It was important to have a family, no matter how unconventional it was.
"Of course, sweetheart."
Her heart melted in that moment, and she wrapped her arms around Maddie and hugged her tight. a tear collected at the corner of her eye, but she slyly wiped it again. Madelyn squealed and hugged Olesya in return. In that moment, Olesya felt the pieces of her life falling back into place. After a couple minutes of holding her daughter, Olesya took the girl by the shoulders and held her back, looking at her face again.
"Now, we're thinking you can take my name for now. It's kind of hard to understand, but David and I aren't...uh, married. But we're together we're your parents and that's all that matters. Does that sound okay?"
Maddie's brow furrowed slightly as she tried to understand the complications of being an adult. After a moment, she beamed.
"I want both your names. You're both my parents.I wanna be Maddie Van de....Blaze!"
Olesya snorted at how Maddie smooshed their names together. Van deBlaze? Really?
"Van deBogart. Or Blaze. If you were a Van deBlaze you'd have neither of our names, silly!"
She tickled Maddie, who squealed with laughter.

David laughed at the going-ons, before his smile would fade a little, keeping his gaze on Les for a few moments, he would watch the girl hug Maddie before getting down and running into her room to get dressed. David would sit back down next to Olesya, clearing his throat.
"Les...before...before we do this, There is something you need to know and I definitely should have told you before this."
He took a deep breath, clasping his hands under the table, he would turn his eyes to her.
"For a long time, I have felt...how I have felt for you. Before we got together, I thought about you constantly and, as you know, fell in love with you. But... but during our time apart then, and now, I have grown close to someone else. Um...very close."
David reached up and rubbed the back of his neck.
"It's not...we haven't done anything, besides talk about it. And While I do want to be with you and do this with you, I don't want to feel like I'm lying to you. I love you, Les but... Im worried that my heart may be shared with someone else and I...I don't want to commit to this without giving myself over fully. Right now, I can't do that."
He didn't exactly know how Les would handle it- being that she seemed so happy now, he felt like scum, squashing her joy beneath his heel. Still, if he was planning to adopt the little girl...he needed Olesya to know the truth.

Olesya smiled as Maddie hopped off her lap to go get dressed. She watched the girl go, a goofy smile on her face. It was amazing how much joy the little girl could bring her, Maddie had definitely been her saving grace. Her attention was drawn to David as he sat back down, looking uncomfortable. The smile faced from her face slowly as he spoke.
"Les...before...before we do this, There is something you need to know and I definitely should have told you before this."
The smile was now gone completely, having melted into an expression somewhere between neutrality and worry. What hadn't he told her? Had his tumor worsened? Had his doctor given him an expiration date? Was he leaving? Olesya felt her heart thud painfully in her chest.
"For a long time, I have felt...how I have felt for you. Before we got together, I thought about you constantly and, as you know, fell in love with you. But... but during our time apart then, and now, I have grown close to someone else. Um...very close."
The worry vanished, and a warning flashed in her eyes.
Kaleidoscope eyes narrowed, her lips pressed together, and Olesya released a breath slowly through her nose to keep from jumping over the table and gutting him right there. Someone else?! There was SOMEONE ELSE?! After all it had taken for Olesya to admit that she not only HAD feelings and emotions left in her corrupted body, but to attach them to someone else, and he just up and stomped all over with his gigantic feet.
"Then don't."
She pushed back from the chair, it wobbled on its legs but didn't fall over. Leaving her breakfast and everything where it was, she walked quickly to the door to leave. She didn't want to lose her cool within radius of her soon-to-be-adopted daughter. She wrenched the door open with a quick movement, slamming it behind her.

David watched her, eyes scanning her face as she stood and marched toward the door.
He let out a deep breath as it slammed, shaking his head a little. She was mistaking what he said- possibly assuming he meant to leave her. He didn't- but there was a long time she was gone, and even when she came back they rarely spoke. He was bound to meet another in that time- but he had pushed forward with her. For a reason. He stood and gently opened Maddies door, as a worried looking Youichi opened the front door. The girl was brushing her hair. David spoke in a very friendly way.
"Maddie- me and Les are going out for a while. Bee is going to watch you, okay?"
The girl nodded and gave David a hug before he shut the door. He nodded to the dark haired woman, who smiled.
"Good luck, dead man."
David didn't answer, jumping over the rail and taking to the sky- he had tagged Les on her way out with air, and would probably find her in short order, to which he would land behind her gently, a small swoosh indicating his presence.
"Olesya, wait!"
He would take her by the elbow and, if she waited, would start in, eyes soft.
"You misunderstand- I meant about Maddie. Not us. I committed to us for a reason- I...want this. But I also want you to know too my reasons for waiting on signing up with you on the adoption....I didn't mean for you to feel like we...we were kaput or something or that I wanted that..."

Olesya initially resisted when he grabbed her by the elbow. She wanted to keep walking, to leave him for a while until she could cool down enough to face this rationally. But no, he wanted to talk now. So she was going to talk.
"No, David. You gave up on me. Was the reason you became Maddie's guardian because you thought I wasn't coming back? That I was giving you a taste of your own medicine?! You left me plenty of times in the years I've known you! You left Emily and I to run the school by ourselves without a Captain! Do you understand how difficult that is?! And yet you gave up on me for leaving you once. Only once. And only because I had to."
Her multicolored eyes flashed dangerously, lips turned downward almost into a snarl.
"If I didn't come back, would you have started a little happy family with her as my stand-in? Did my return screw up your little fantasy? If so, I'm terribly sorry I inconvenienced you, and you can go back to your regularly scheduled program."
She threw her arms up, turning on her heel once more. How dare he...how dare he! Didn't he understand how hard it was for Olesya to not only understand her own emotions, but to act on them as well? She had spent so many years in her numb chaos, something she didn't think he would ever begin to understand.

David shifted back a little as she turned, lighting into him. He expected it- though it still caused him to recoil internally. He watched her as she spat at him, bluntly flinging the pain he caused her in his face. Eyes scanned hers, her face pained but calm. After she turned back around- he followed after her.
"How many times must I apologize before it's enough then, Les? How many times before your satisfied? Shall I get on my knees and beg? I have said sorry so many times for leaving the word as lost flavor. I can't go back and knock myself around so I stayed. And never once did I give up on you while you were gone- I love you. I have and will for as long as you'll accept it. But when you left, I spent a long time with other people. And my feelings for someone grew. It wasn't something I could help! I'm sorry. Okay? I don't..."
He was going to say he didn't want anyone else...but that...that might be walking the line of a lie. If he didn't want anyone else, he wouldn't be here arguing. But he wanted her too. He...ran his fingers through his hair, trying to find a way to make her understand.

Olesya continued to walk away as he spoke, but as those words left his mouth, she could feel her anger rising again. 'I love you...it wasn't something I could help!' She planted her feet suddenly, pivoting on the balls of her feet to face him, her fist already cocked back.
"Don't say it unless you mean it!"
The fist would rocket toward his face, and if it hit, her right fist would come up to aim a punch at his chest, a cushion of air both propelling her fist and adding to the trajectory for a wider, more powerful contact point than her normal fist.
If he blocked, or remained on the defense, Les would alternately throw punches and yell at him, moving foward to push him back and keep the proximity to be within hitting range.
"YOU CAN'T...SAY YOU LOVE SOMEONE...AND SAY YOU...LIKE SOMEONE ELSE...IT DOESNT...WORK...LIKE...THAT!"
David and Olesya had never actually talked out their feelings in regards to their past, it had always been stirring between them. Sure, David had apologized plenty of times, but Olesya felt that he had in fact given up on her because he let his feelings wander. And sure, they hadn't been official before she left, but how could he have led her to believe that she was the one when there was a girl on the side! Olesya had been home for months now, how long had this been going on!? All these thoughts whirled around in her head, making her even angrier.

David's eyes went wide a second before her punch slammed into his face, knuckles hard against his cheek as his head whipped to the left from the force. The blow caused him to stumble, her next punch coupled with her rather forceful special blew him back with such force that, when he hit the light pole, it bent and collapsed into the small bakery behind him, people screaming and scattering. He stood, a trickle of blood running from the right corner of his mouth. His eyebrows drew down as he wiped the blood away, anger creasing his face and flashing in his eyes.
"Maybe I should have told you at the island. A sort of 'Oh by the way' custom I'm sure most people appreciate in that kind of situation." His sarcasm was almost palpable. " My bad. But hell- at least I'm trying to fix my mistakes, Olesya. Even so- fair warning. Don't attack me again, or this'll take very wrong turn."
David was willing to stand and try to make her understand- instead, she wanted to blindly vent her anger, and David's remorse did not extend to physical punishment. She wanted to step up and try to beat her anger away- he was gonna make her ass work for it, as he honestly didn't feel he deserved to be hit for something that came into being before they had even been together.

She stood a couple paces from him, watching cooly at the streetlight fell. It didn't even begin to satiate her anger. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, right?
"I did fix my mistakes! I went and got cured of the chemical shit that Barker forced into my veins! It was destroying my brain! If I hadn't left, then I would have just lost my mind all over again, and it wouldn't have been reversable."
She snarled, clenching her fists. It took all her self-control to not launch herself at him again.
"And yeah, maybe you should'a said something before you told me you loved me! It's a lie, David. You've been lying to me! And yet you expect me not to want to rip your head off...do you even know me at all?!"
Her muscles were aching with anger-fueled adrenaline. She held herself back from attacking him again, instead bending her knees and aiming a punch at the ground, the earth indenting and inch around her fist, the ground spiderwebbing out around it. Perhaps a punching bag would be a useful investment.

David stared. He watched her punch the ground, but her words were still ringing in his head.
'Its a lie, David...it's a lie....a lie..."
David's voice was quiet despite her rage.
"A...lie? After...after everything I have done and...I have never lied to you. I didn't say anything because I thought..."
He was just trying to be honest with her. Had he never said anything the situation may have come to resolve itself. Now she was....
He abruptly turned, and started walking away.

Punching the ground certainly helps, it eased the tingling in her muscles and watching the ground splinter was certainly satisfying...it was better than splintering David's face anyway. Olesya had been a passionate person even before the chemicals had messed up her head. Now she generally had a good hold on her temper, but she'd let David into her heart, he had struck a chord with her that reached deeply into her soul, where Olesya didn't want to look.
"Don't you walk away from me David Blaze! I'm not done with you yet!"
She took off after him, catching up to him and grabbing him by the elbow much like he had done when he first caught her. Her multicolored eyes searched his deep blue ones, and though there was a scowl on her face, her eyes were slightly less venomous.
"I forgave you, every single time. This isn't about that, it's not about you leaving me. It's about you giving up on me, and keeping this from me since I've returned. I've been back for months, David, and you haven't told me about this until now. You don't have to say anything for it to be a lie, keeping it from me is the lie. Not telling me about-"
She caught herself, she didn't want to bring up David's sickness right now, not in this fight. But this wasn't the first time he'd kept information from her. He hadn't told her he was sick, and she pushed him hard during their reuinion fight, to the point where he passed out cold. He told her he trusted her and yet he kept his secrets...
"You should have been honest with me from the get-go, before..."
She gritted her teeth, pressing her lips together and pulling a calking breath through her nose so she could keep her lower tone of voice.
"-before I fell for you. It's not fair. I don't want to have to share your heart, and until you can make up your mind..."
She pressed her lips together again, blinking a few times. Her eyes grew shiny, and she fought hard to keep the waver out of her voice. She hated to say it, but it had to be said. She crossed her arms over her stomach, her gaze falling to the ground.
"...maybe I should stay somewhere else."

David stared at her blankly for several moments, he words about moving out just another drop in the pond. He turned back to her fully.
"Im worth about thirteen billion dollars. I have a brother named Damien, he might be dead. I have a brother named Aaron, also probably dead. I hate running this place. I hate the responsibility, like a chain. I have four pennies I keep between the mattress of my bed because my grandpa told me bed bugs love copper. I've been engaged before, senior year of high school. I own fourteen houses. My favorite color is green despite my elder color being what it is. I wear reading glasses when no one is around- helps ease my headache. When I was twelve my grandma died while on a boat. My grandpa and I fished for four hours before we noticed. I-"
He'd keep going like that until she said something, to which he'd say-
"Oh- did you not want me to start spilling every little thing I find unimportant compared to you? Shall I dig up everything I have forgotten in the last six months while not around you, so you feel like you know all my secrets? News flash- when I said I love you, I meant it. When I kiss you, I forget the world and only remember you. When I think about how tomorrow Barker might decide its my time to die, I smile because I know you'll live and as long as your happy nothing can touch me. If it kept you safe ,I'd march to the gates of hell to demand the devils throne. I thought you knew that, and I thought that maybe, telling you this one thing before we got married or adopted a child would-"
He stopped and shook his head, his blue eyes seeing her, but not really seeing her.
"Im not perfect, Olesya. And for that I'm sorry."
He turned away.
"Ill be gone for two days. Long enough for you to pack."
He started off again.
