David laughed.
"Wow. There aren't enough hours in a day my friend. But you wanna clear some shit up, lets clear at least some shit up."
He would run a hand through his hair before bringing both hands up behind his head.
"Why couldn't you settle for being a grunt? Why did you want to lead the Dragons? Was it the power or something else?"

Well way to throw a soft ball question right off the bat. It was the same reason he didn't trust the Crows and why he had to work his way up in the God's. Mathew didn't do Grunt work because people were fucktards.
"Because you may have fucked it up. I didn't join the Crows when Kiyoshi offered me a spot in the ground floor either. We are going to build a better world, but I need to be up there on the top levels. Because someone else might get it wrong."

He grinned.
"Then in truth, you see yourself as never wrong?"
He knew it.

"No, I see myself as more adaptable than most and able to turn a defeat into a victory. Everyone miscalculates. But others fixate one on variable so much they miss the forest for the trees."
He said in a very calm and conversational tone. They may have been talking about the weather.
"Other people can be bought, they can be blinded by loyalty to a group over a cause. All of my plans, since before you have known me, no matter the side I am on at the time. They all are for one thing. A better world than the one we have now, and the one we had then."

David brought his hands down and folded his arms.
"And whose to say what world is better?"

"I am. Because my vision of the world is the only one worth my time to work for. I'm sure you feel the same way about your vision for your world. And Barker for his vision."

He shrugged.
"And why is it impossible to work with others for a collective perfect world?"

He looked at David like he was dumb.
"Because one, there is no perfect world. Two, everyone has a different and often conflicting idea of what that is. If we didn't then the Crows and God's would have merged with us to make the Crowmatic Dragon Gods. But everyone has their idealized vision."
He shrugged.
"And I am working with people. Look at all of the people I have helped bring together."
Not just the Gods with the Dragons but how many Dragons themselves were here because of Mathew.
"Trust me David. I've been playing nice."
He grinning in a way that was almost bearing his teeth. Almost as if he was reminding David that if he wanted too he could have chosen to bite instead of work together and build. Tearing down was always the easier option.

David tilted his head.
"Compromise is the only way to absolute perfection. It may not be perfect in everyones eyes, and it may be perfect in nobodies eyes. But everyone gets a piece of the world they wanted. Instead, say we beat barker and all his minions and defend against whatever comes next. Until we reach a point where we are all thats left. We could kill each other for the right to decide whats best, or work together to come up with the best way to govern."
He sighed.
"I'd almost prefer you not playing nice now. Killing you alone would be easy. Killing you with everyone you string up to follow you would not be."
Like Bastille, for one.

"Oh? Is that your end game?"
He grinned a bit at the thought. Could David do it? Possibly. Though he doubted it would be easy. Even if Mathew was alone in the world. If nothing else he was good at surviving. And not like a cockroach either. Simple fact was Mathew was never alone, something about him always drew people.
"If you'd like I can arrange for you to have your chance to kill me. Alone."
It didn't matter to him who's hand did it. In the end it would still fit in the plan.

David laughed.
"Oh, Matt. You're cute. I don't want to kill you now. But later, I'll kill you if I have to. Our paths will reach it eventually. Right now, you're of use to me. As I am of use to you. That's the nature of things. When you become a problem, I won't need arrangements. I'm not dick measuring either, or threatening. Simple truth is, we have a very fundementally different reality for the future. I want no one man to rule, you want one man to rule- you. Hopefully we don't get all warm and fuzzy for one another before then- I'd rather not kill a friend."
He took a deep breath.
"As for my End game- I have one simple outcome. To be free."

He just shook his head. Oh if only he knew where Mathew's end game would lead them all. And he had no doubt that it would be Mathew's end game that was doing the leading.
"The only freedom is in death."
For life holds all of the burdens and obligations of duty. With every tie you make you are bound ever closer to the Earth, shouldering the weight of the collectives souls you hold dear. Only death releases you to be fully free.
"Should be fun when you decide to try it then."

His eyes held a glint of humor. Mathew had a very different Idea of freedom then he did.
"Okay. So then- what now? Now that the posturing is complete...lets get a little more off set from me and you. Whats this plan of yours that everyone will hail you for?"

"We are going to end the war. In three days it will be done."
He held up three fingers. One way or the other it will all be done. Then the real fight will begin.
"Maybe you will get lucky and you won't have to kill me."

He shrugged. He didn't WANT to kill Mathew- he thought he'd made that apparent. He guessed not.
"It may surprise you to know, but if you died, I'd mourn your loss. Regardless- how do you plan to pull it off?"
