Kyrie's eyes shimmered, reflecting both moon and starlight as she looked up at her house. Her stomach twisted into anxious knots, enough to make her feel ill. A small part of her wondered if the house, if everything he'd given her after coming back...was his way of giving her a consolidation prize. The blonde's step faltered as she stumbled and gasped, eyes going wide. Aghast, she fled up the path in the dark, guided by the faint light from above. A sob bubbled in her throat as the rest of her revolted against the very hurt thought.
David had given her the house so she could have a place of her own to call home instead of dwelling within the Earth Dragon's house. He agreed to allow her to return to the Sky Force's fold because the members of his tactical unit promised they would leave if she was not brought back, as he was a fool for setting her up to failure to begin with. She couldn't, absolutely refused to believe that. As she burst through the door, heart leaping to leave the doubt behind, to desperately cast it away from her.
The door slammed as if to keep the hurt and insidious doubts at bay.
He loved her, still, and somehow that made it hurt all the more.
Smells of baking, of fresh-made buns, of soup, of something sweet...all assailed her nose, overriding the smell of sea and earth.
Before she knew it, her sister was standing there, looking tired and concerned above all. The blonde froze, going stark still, as though she would flee. Arianna swallowed and silently lifted her arms, opening them in welcome, letting her younger sister choose...
Her decision was quick after a pained flicker of wide blue eyes.
In the next moment she flung herself forward - bare feet, sandy hair, and all - into her sister's arms. She gasped, sobbed once, and then held tight. Without question or reserve, Arianna's arms immediately pulled her closer, though Kyrie's grip was surprisingly powerful.
"Shhh, Kyrie..."
"I l-love him, Ar-ria. It hurts. So much."
Arianna lifted a hand and began to run her fingers through her sister's snarled hair. She hadn't gotten a wink of sleep since her sister's abrupt departure. So she had kept busy, had actually refrained from going to help out. Because she needed to be here for her sister when she came home. Her eyes hardened in that same fiercely protective streak they all seemed to share.
"I love you, Kyrie. Hold onto that. Hold on to what Mother told us: choose, but choose love. You know it'll overcome this, in time."
She swayed back and forth and slowly began to hum.
Slowly, slowly, slowly, she swayed them back into the living room, just holding and rocking. And, softly, she began to sing to her younger sister that before meeting David, had no concept of romantic heartbreak.
"Nothing you can make that can't be made.
No one you can save that can't be saved~
Nothing you can do but you can learn how to be you in time.
It's easy.
"All you need is love.
All you need is love.
All you need is love, love..~
Love is all you need~"
No one you can save that can't be saved~
Nothing you can do but you can learn how to be you in time.
It's easy.
"All you need is love.
All you need is love.
All you need is love, love..~
Love is all you need~"
Her sister's gentle touch soothed and coaxed the hurt out, even though the hurt was far from over. Kyrie used her sister's sweater to muffle the sound of her crying and sank against her, as though she could be sheltered from the world, from all the pain and sorrow it seemed intent on dishing out to her in such a short amount of time.
She would listen to what her heartbroken sister would say about what happened, but later. Right now, Arianna was only concerned with one thing: giving her little sister the love and protection she needed. Everything else would come, after.
