Melanie would make her way through the school, searching for only one person. Emily Suddenfield. She was the new School Captain and word was, that she was looking for Pillars. Melanie thought she'd be good for the job. She didn't want to fight, but knew it might be necessary when the time came. If needed, she would secure a title. She always looked out for the little guy. No matter if the little guy happened to be a giant. Melanie rounded the corner into the courtyard. There were only a few people standing around, including one School Captain. How did she know? The chick was wearing a 'School Captain' hoodie. That and most people were avoiding her, afraid of a fight randomly breaking out. Melanie didn't care. She walked right up to her and cleared her throat. "Hey, I hear you need pillars and I want the job." Huh. Simple, to the point and ballsy. Hopefully the Captain liked that kind of thing. "I don't know how you want me to go about this, but i'd like a chance to prove my worth. Ask me any question, throw any punch. I may not get them all, but I can promise I'll do my very best."

Emily was leaning against the wall of the courtyard, watching three boys talk. She had been following them the last few days, the shit they'd been flinging at each other. A classroom argument, beating up each others friends. It was culminating here, and she wanted to see what happened. If a riot broke out....she'd need to get involved. However, a distraction found her way in. Another one wanting a coveted spot as a Pillar beneath her. She glanced at Mel from under the hood.
"Why?"
As in...why be a Pillar? She stared at Mel but still kept track of that discussion across the way.
Just in case.

Melanie deliberated on whether she should tell all about her past. If she was to be a pillar, then yes, she would know eventually, but if not, no need to make another person fear her. She decided not to tell her everything. Not all at once anyhow. It hadn't ended to well with Vi and the others she had told. "I want to stand up for people who can't stand up for themselves. It makes me angry when someone hurts another just for the hell of it. If that person can't fight back, well, I'd rather they hit me than hurt the person who can't fight back."
It was the honest to god truth. Melanie hoped she hadn't sounded like she was preaching. If anyone knew about protecting others, it would be the Captain. She stood her ground hoping the Captain didn't think her line was crap or practiced. She really did want to help.

"Okay."
Idealistic, to be sure. It seemed somewhat innocent, but that was far better than cocky or self absorbed, and her reasons seemed pure enough for Emily. Funnily enough, nobody had asked her yet why she was Captain. Not that she really gave them the opportunity. The boys were shaking their head and still hashing it out. Emily searched Mel's eyes.
"You seem to have a pure goal but you also seem weak. And I'm not talking physically- you seem like you have a weak spine. Being a Pillar is no joke, and you will be challenged for your spot. If someone else wants it, I can't protect you. And you have to stand up to people who might be way, way stronger than yourself."

Melanie maintained eye contact, not looking away for even a second. She knew she wasn't strong, she also knew she had more to offer than others did. "I don't always fight with my hands." Melanie would offer back. "I have other tools my father taught me." She would try not to wince at talking about her father. It had been barely two weeks since he had died. "I figure I can hold my own as long as i can use any tools at my disposal. I may not be tough, but I'm nothing to laugh at." Melanie would keep eye contact. She was right about her not being strong, but maybe she would change her mind if she would give Melanie a chance.

Emily let out a low hum.
"Prove it."
The boys had started jostling each other, getting in each others faces. She would look over at them and point with her chin.
"Those kids. Break up the fight that's about to happen in whatever way you have to. Tell them you're a Pillar, and point at me if you have to. I suspect they won't go quietly but....you said you wanted the job."
She would look back to Mel to see if she would do it.

Melanie stiffened as she told her to break up the fight. This would be her job if she were to be a Pillar, might as well show her stuff. Melanie would look to the boys and back to the Captain. "Alright." Melanie would walk over to the boys, stopping about 6 feet from them. "Break it up, guys. No need to show us how macho you are. Go to class or find somewhere else to hang out." If they looked at her like she presumed they would, Melanie would reach for her bag. She wouldn't tell them she was a Pillar. That wouldn't be the truth, weren't Pillars supposed to be honest?
She would reach into her satchel, grabbing one of the rose whips by the homemade handle. She wouldn't pull it out of the bag just yet. If they came at her, she would pull it out. Each was easily larger than she, but maybe she could trip one of them. She would eye the two, looking for any signs of weaknesses. They both had posses on the side. Hopefully they didn't interfere when she was resolving the issue.
Satchel Contents: -3 Pepper bombs (super itchy) -2 Rose whips (Approx. 4.5 ft each) -10 large sharp burrs (Approx. 1 in Diameter) (super pointy) -6 dried Poison Ivy leaves ground into powder (mega itchy leaving rashes) -3 vials of Lily of the Valley oil (plus 1 full stem on her shirt) (poisonous. only use for extreme cases)

They stopped as she approached, though the shorter male on the right turned to her.
"Look, girl- no offense, but please butt the fuck out."
He turned back to the other guy.
"So, Kyle, what about it? You bang her or what?"
Kyle folded his arms and smirked. Clearly, the guy was an asshole. The guy who spoke to Melanie didn't seem quite so bad, more than he had just been riled up and wasn't in the mood to play games.
"Why don't you ask her. She's standing right over there."
Kyle jammed his thumb at the School Captain.

Melanie's eyes raged turning from a pale sage to a violent forest green. They were talking about the School Captain like that? Guys needed to be taught a lesson and Melanie thought she just might be the right one to teach it. "I said stop." Her voice was low and flat with danger. They might not take it seriously, but that didn't matter. No one was going to speak like that about her Captain. It didn't matter if she had the pillar position or not. That was just not cool. "Leave before something bad happens. Last chance." Melanie's grasp on the handle would tighten as she prepared for the fight that would ensue.
Whichever guy came at her first would get the first taste of her whip. This whip was new, only used these past two days. She would pull it out of her satchel and whip it behind her. Forward. Back. Forward. Back. Melanie waited for one of them to rush her. I just need to take down one. Maybe then the others will get the picture. Optimism at its best. Melanie thought to herself. Her gaze would switch between the two students, daring one of them to test her whip.

Kyle would turn and throw a punch for Melanie!
"Hey SAID butt the fuck out, bitch!"
The other guy backed up quickly to get out of the way.

Melanie would snap the whip out as he started towards her, catching his closest foot. Pulling with all her might, she would try and trip him. If it didn't work, Melanie would try and snap the whip back and forward again aiming for his neck. If that took hold, she'd dodge to the left and pull down, hard. Hopefully not hurting him too bad. She didn't want another death on her hands.
I can't believe you are still trying. Melanie thought. All you had to do was walk away. I'll show you how wrong you are. You'd better still be awake enough to beg forgiveness. "I warned you."

The whip caught his leg, but he stomped down, preventing himself from falling, his eyes widened as the whip wrapped around his neck and, at the jerk, would stumble and fall. The other guys backed up quickly, and the man on the ground started choking. One of his friends stepped forward and grabbed Mel by the shoulders, then would aim to growl and lift to hurl her backward.
"Bitch!"
Kyle would rush forward and tackle the one who threw Mel, aiming to lift him by planting his hands on the back of his knees and jamming his shoulder into the guys stomach. He would slam him down into the fountain.
Things were spiraling, but not yet out of control, as Kyles friends seemed content to let him and Mel handle it.

As Melanie was about to let go of the whip, another kid ran up behind her and grabbed her by the shoulders and tossed her away. Her whip landed just to the side of her as her satchel swung around to her front and landed on the ground. She landed and rolled over, growling. "You will regret that." She'd pull her satchel from in front of her back over to her side. Digging in it, she'd pull out the Pepper dust and rip it open. It was going to suck since they were wet, but Melanie had to break it up before someone got hurt.
She'd jump up and grab her whip, racing toward the two. "Stop it! Get off him!" She'd yell at the two, throwing the dust over them, trying not to get their eyes. Unfortunately, it would land near the top of Kyle's back, spreading over his arms and legs. The rest would hit Cronie's lower face and chest. THat was going to suck... "Now stop it!"

Kyle cried out at the pepper shit, rolling off- and into the water. It would wash most of it away, the male swimming through it to get as much of the dust away as he could. He'd tear off his shirt, continuing to wash the stuff off. The other guy just screamed, the dust and water hitting his eyes and causing him significant pain. The man whose throat was hit would take off running! Kyle jumped out and took off running too- for the showers, intent to watch the itchy shit off his torso. The guy in the water couldn't move....he just screamed.
Emily walked forward as the crowd dispersed, looking down at the male in the water.
"Well done. Take him to the infirmary, and come to my office later to receive your mark, Pillar."
And unless there was a question, Emily would head off!

Melanie watched as Kyle tore his clothes off and took off for the showers. The other just screamed in pain. "Don't put water on your face. It only makes it worse." Melanie looked down at him, unashamed. She would turn to Emily as she spoke, a smile beginning on her face. She nodded once. "Thanks, Cap."
Turning to the kid in the water, she'd put away her weapons and pull him out of the water. It was hard, but she finally did it. "Next time you and your friends should listen." She'd head to the infirmary, still smiling.
