Emily's eyes opened.
Things were blurry, at first. She heard the heart monitor. Saw the curtains around her bed. On the wall, saw the clock. It had been several hours since the fight- and the school was still standing. Clearly, those who were left hadn't fallen. Or...perhaps those who attacked had left. Bringing her hand up in front of her face, she looked at the splint on her finger, at the bandages on her arms. Sitting up, the blanket fell back, revealing she wasn't wearing a shirt. Her entire torso was wrapped in bandages, as was half her face. Reaching up, she touched her tip, stinging but dull pain indicating the wounds were still intensive but put away by medication.
She looked around.
So far, only the nurse was present.
Emily's fists clenched as best they good, her brow drawn down into a scowl as she grit her teeth. She was the strongest person in the school- she knew it. She had to be. As Captain, nobody could be stronger. Yet, two people walked through the door and shredded her and the Pillars like tissue paper. the SHCP Captain was slapped around like a rag doll too. Yet....those who threw the blows knelt to a third, clearly stronger individual. Sweat beaded her brow- not out of fear. She wasn't afraid of someone being stronger than her anymore. The sweat was from the pain crashing into her body from moving too much. Reaching over and taking her chart, she read carefully.
"A broken rib. Fractured Scapula. Concussion. Torn epidermis clean through to dermis along the spine, broken pinky, various contusions to the mouth, legs and stomach."
Sighing, she put the chart back and started to get out of bed.
"Nurse, I want my clothes."
"Y-you shouldn't be out of bed! Emily lay down-"
She shoved the nurse away, her broken left hand holding her stomach.
"My clothes. Now."

EVEN WITH THESE CHAINS
you can't stop me "You really should listen to her." Violet would say entering the room after being alerted to Emily waking up. She wanted to say something else too but refrained from saying it, there was no point in agitating a clearly already vexed School Captain unless she wanted more broken limbs. Strutting in Violet would take a seat next to her bed and place a soft palm to Emily's shoulder to press her back into the bed to get her rest.
Violet herself hadn't suffered quite so many injuries; a mild concussion from the strike, an abdomen cut none so deep that she was forced to sit it off. She'd already been discharged but saw fit to stick around the hospital til all the students had been cleared up and seeing as Emily had the worst of it she was sticking round her til even she was better.
"There was a better way to handle that... but I'm sure you see that now..." Violet said in a low voice mostly talking to herself but to a degree still vexed with Emily and her punch first ask questions later attitude even if that wasn't entirely true.

Emily would bring her arm up and brush Violet's arm off. She'd look away from the second Pillar.
"I'm glad you're here, actually."
The nurse had laid her clothes at the end of the bed, so Emily (still wearing shorts) would put on her sweater before jamming the other clothes under her arm. Then, she looked back at Violet.
"I'm firing you. You're off the Pillarship."
Then she'd stand to go.

EVEN WITH THESE CHAINS
you can't stop me Violet felt her heart drop. It was like she'd swallowed her own tongue the intense sort of pain in her gut was unrivaled to what she'd really felt before in fact she was so devastated that she simply just leaned back letting Emily go without a fight. Fired? She knew what physical pain felt like, what torture was like, but disappointment? She didn't know what she did wrong, did she deserve this?
Tears formed in the corners of Violet's eyes as she stared blankly at the wall transitioning slowly to Emily. "What did I do wrong?" It sounded like a low whimper though as she weakly etched out the words at utmost degree of pain behind troubled eyes.

Emily continued to get dressed, ignoring the fretting nurse. She expected Violet to be upset, and though Emily was also conflicted about it...she couldn't have someone openly challenging her authority. If she was honest with herself, she actually liked Violet. The girl was kind, and gentle. And...Emily thought she cared about the students. The pain that Violet was feeling was also in Em's gut. Coupled with the drugs and pain of her wounds, and Emily was failing to keep up her usually icy demeanor.
"What did you do wrong?"
Emily moved forward and would use her broken hand to grab Violet's shirt, pain lancing up her arm and heightening to a stabbing ache.
"I trusted you to take care of the kids. I trusted you. Not Melanie, Not Richard or Krane. I said to get them out of there. You think if I had the strength to do it myself I would have wasted it on attacking people who had already proven stronger than I could handle? You think I wouldn't have been the one to lead you away? Fucking look at me- my body is a broken ass mess and I had just enough strength to hold them back. Instead you ordered someone else to do it. You pawned that trust off and disobeyed my orders. I was beginning to think you and me- but no, just like everyone else in my fucking life, I can't trust you either."
She'd turn to grab her clothes and start heading for the door. If Violet didn't put in words edgewise, Em would speak as she walked out.
"I expect you to collect your things after school today."

EVEN WITH THESE CHAINS
you can't stop me Violet would gasp and move with Emily's grip, the girl still in a dead weight limp position probably not lending any favors to Emily's broken body as she gave her resolved thoughts to Violet's frozen demeanor. Violet wouldn't fight back, she knew what she did was against Emily's orders but she saw the whole scenario very differently. If Emily thought of her pillars as the strongest components of the school then that's in turn what they had to be Melanie could act as a lance and Violet as a shield. All that romanticized point of view.
Violet would go down in the chair without conflict waiting til Emily was leaving the room and with a quiet not yet defeated voice she'd speak up. "You're wrong, that's what friends do... They talk sense into you when you're too blind to see it." Violet wouldn't make a move to stop Em at that point she'd just sit there still contemplating where she'd gone wrong. She couldn't bear the knowledge of having been wrong after all Emily said get them out... Emily was part of them whether or not she saw that herself.

Emily turned back.
"No. You just want me to be. What do think your job is? To try and create a stronger, more cohesive friendship among the group of Pillars? Your job had two parts- listen to the Captain, and protect the students. You failed to do both. And there's going to be a time when, even if my well being is at stake- you need to choose them. The Pillars were meant to be the strongest, to be something for students to focus their anger and strength on. I turned it into a group that protected the populace, and you were unwilling to let that be your driving force. You sacrificed the needs of the many for the needs of one."
Emily didn't blink or look away. Her icy demeanor was there now, but she was just being blunt about it.
"If you disagree, and you don't want to follow my instructions or believe me to be wrong, and you want to create a little group of buddies, grab a guitar and sing kumbayah....then nut up and take my title from me. By challenging my orders and authority, you might as well be doing that anyway."
She stared, waiting for the reply she suspected was coming.

EVEN WITH THESE CHAINS
you can't stop me She'd remain quiet this time around, even the sniffling that she'd been doing in tandem with the conversation had stopped as Violet sucked it up holding back the torrential waterfalls from leaking out her hues. She remained stoic focused on the wall so that she didn't have to cling tight to the pain in her chest. Emily was stirring up doubt in her and that was never good. She'd be waiting a while if she wanted a response from that, for the moment Violet was cold, in pain, feeling as though she weren't enough...

The silence was enough.
Emily turned and left.
