GET BACK HERE!! That shrill scream echoing through the paper thin walls of the small house on the outer edges of the city. It was a rundown little shack compared to the house that she had grown up in for most of her life, but it was all her Mother could really afford right now given the money it had taken to move here, and the money it had taken to get her out of trouble at her last school. A completely accidental event that had turned her Mother upside down and all sorts of backwards.
Kadya ignored the yelling as she slammed the front door and reached into her pocket to pull out her phone. Plugging in her headphones, the teen rolled her eyes before jamming an earbud into one ear and cramming her phone back into the pocket of her hoodie. The music was enough to muffle the yelling of her Mother, if only in part, and as reached back to pull her hood up she couldn't help but feel that wave of hatred that had been growing more and more predominant within her mind whenever the thought of her Mother came wafting through.
Fingers curling tightly about her hood, she shook it off. She couldn't do anything about it, and maybe if she ever found out where they had taken her Father, she could find him and he could make it all right again.
Granted, that was a big if, considering she had heard nothing since the moment she had found out he was going away. Or, if she had, she had been too absorbed in her own black hole to really register anything that was being said to her.
A deep breath, released just as slowly, she let the screams of her Mother fade into the background as she took off running. She had already been out once tonight, but it was either this or staying home to listen to the sort of bitching and moaning that the older woman had planned.
She didn't know what it was about, nor did she really care. She had listened to about two minutes of it before throwing on her jacket and sneakers and heading out the door.
By the time she turned the corner, she could hear her Mother yelling from the edges of the front porch, assuming you could even call it that. But she was too far gone to care anymore. She had to get out of there, had to get some fresh air and space. She had to breathe.

Sitting in a wide oak tree about 12 feet off the ground, Soni listened to and mimicked this song using her ability to match the cello perfectly. Because she had her cat headphones on, she wouldn't be able to tell how loud she was being; it softly echoed in the streets, playing a lullaby for all who listened. Thankfully, her caretaker Veronica was asleep by now, so Soni could sing in peace. (OOC: The tree Soni sits in is probably about 20 to 25 feet in front and slightly to the right if Kadya, sitting beside the sidewalk she's jogging on)

Images of her Mother flashed through her mind. That shrill screech of her voice. The pale blue color of her eyes. The blonde hair that everyone admired and loved so very much. It bred more and more rage inside of Kadya as she ran, already feeling the muscles in her legs starting to whine in protest at the additional work they were being forced to endure.
She ignored it, pushing it aside and simply forcing herself to try and breathe normally, distancing herself further and further from that house.
Would she return home tonight? She honestly had no idea and at the moment it was the last thing on her mind. She wanted to get out of there, and she wanted to put distance between the painful memories of what her life had been, all the while comparing it to what it was now. The two things seeming like entirely different lifetimes to the young teen and the more she thought about it, the more she yearned to return to the life she once knew.
She didn't make it far though, at least not before something caught her attention and drew her run down to a slow walk.
Singing, and from the direction it was coming from, it was easy enough to tell that it was coming from a tree. That, on its own, was curious enough, considering Kadya had thought she was the only person who liked to lay around in trees during her leisurely hours. But, as she drew closer, the sight of the person doing the singing, or whatever it was, brought the redhead to a complete stop.
No, it wasn't the attire or the feline-like ears that stopped her, but the hair. It was pale, much lighter than her Mother's own shimmering golden locks, but it was blond and as such, Kadya felt an innate desire to...
Well, she didn't know and soon enough she found herself shaking her head as she attempted to clear her mind of the muddled and somewhat dark thoughts that tampered with her line of thought.
A gentle cough, announcing herself, just in case her absentminded staring had ceased to do so. "Sorry to interrupt."
No she wasn't. Was she?
The whole thing was befuddling her mind, causing her hand to reach up under her hood and rake through her long, tangled crimson waves, pushing the hood back in the process.

Soni didn't hear anything at first but she opened her eyes just long enough to see a red head looking at her. She lightly jumped where she was from being startled and flailed around trying to get the headphones off. Once they came off they fell and were only caught by the cord that connect to her MP3. "Oh my gosh," she squeaked. "I am so sorry I hope I wasn't too loud. Sometimes I don't hear myself and people yell at me and its all embarrassing and I'm sorry lemme just-" She rambled, red slowly filling her cheeks as she pulled back up the headphones as by the cord. She spoke so fast it sounded as if it was all one word.

Oh, and here she was thinking she was the jittery one.
The other girl's words rambled off in a single string of sound, all of it seeming to meld together to the point that Kadya had a hard time deciphering just what she had been saying. Though, she had caught the apology in there, and as such, she shook her head and waved her hand dismissively.
There was nothing to be sorry for, or so she thought. Plus the word "sorry" just made her feel very, very uncomfortable. Her Father had never used that word, not once and as a result, Kadya didn't either. Sure, she apologized, but it was just that single word that grated her nerves like nails on a chalkboard.
"No need to apologize, really." She smiled slightly, combing her hair over one shoulder before jamming her hands deep into her pockets where they could ball into fists unnoticed. "You're good."
Too good.
She didn't say that though, having no real basis for doing so. She just tucked it away at the back of her mind and let it rest there for now. She wasn't sure it would ever be useful but then, who knew?
"Oh, um, I'm Kadya, by the way." Names. Names were good. Right?

After situating herself, Soni hopped down from the tree and gave a happy sigh. "I'm Soni. Kinda like the company but without the TVs and money," she said in a happy voice as she offered a hand to shake. Now that she was in the light a bit more Kadya would probably notice the mask Soni was talking to; bandages wrapped around her face from just under her nose to her neck.

It took a lot for Kadya not to backtrack when she saw the girl hop down from the tree. She was skiddish, to say the least, and her hands clenched tighter in her pockets, an act she soon had to surrender as the other girl offered up a general greeting that Kadya was not too familiar with.
Well, perhaps familiar was not the word, as she had seen people shake hands before, but it wasn't something that she herself was accustomed to doing.
She did it though, pulling her hand free and shaking the other girl's hand, noting the bandages on her face as she did so. For a moment, she thought to ask, but in the end she simply let it go back into her mind with the rest of the information she tended to store on all those she met.
"I really didn't mean to bother you, I was just out for a run and heard you up there." She gave a weak chuckle, feeling a faint tint of warmness to her cheeks. "I actually thought I was the only one who hung out in trees randomly."
Her amber and chestnut eyes lingering on the other girl, more notably her hair, but just for enough time to decide that any longer would come across as downright creepy and weird. Not a first impression she wanted to make.

After shaking the girl's hand Soni seemed to smile despite her mouth (well, lack of one, rather) being hidden. "No worries, really. You didn't bother me at all. I'm kind of new here anyway and love meeting new people. And are you kidding? Trees are the best thing to hang out in. I mean that's where almost all the other animals hang out in. Birds, squirrels, bugs, all the fun wildlife stuff," Soni spoke happily looking at the tree.
"You wanna go up there with me?" Soni offered, not really limiting herself on sfriendliness. "Honestly in an area like this late at night, it probably is unwise for me to be so kind to strangers, but this girl seems nice enough. If not I can always just scream her ears off," Soni thought to herself as she waited for a reply.
