The Butterfly Effect:Part 1 (Open/Assignment[Research])

The Butterfly Effect: It is the great web of choices, a board game with unlimited players, the the greatest example of how one life effects another. Call it what you will, but what it is called has little to do with what it causes to occur today. It is because of the Butterfly Effect that Noriko had to take the subway to to the other side of the city on this day and at this time. It is because of the Butterfly effect that a gang just so happened to enter the subway station and, feeling particularly confident, kick a man into Noriko causing her to falloff the platform and into the tracks. And it is because of the Butterfly Effect that the subway just so happened to be on the other side of Los Angeles due to a hijacking taking place.(No one was hurt) Noriko could hear the laughter and insults from the 5 man gang above, obviously pointed towards her and her carelessness that caused her to be knocked down in the first place. She got back up on the platform; completely ignoring both her bruises and the gang still cracking up in the background. Her condition didn't really permit her to take on street hoodlums anyway. This said, the gang seemed to have better plans than complying to Noriko's attempt at pacifism. Seeing as how they were done with their last victim(and everyone else wanted to remain a bystander), they decided to approach Noriko. "Hey, did you think we would let you off that easily? If it wasn't for you, we could have had that last guy fall off the platform. I guess we can just play around with you to make for the amusement we missed out on." The guy didn't seem to be the gang leader, since the others weren't safely stuck up his butt. Even so, Noriko knew she didn't stand a chance against them, so she remained silent as a single drop of sweat became present at her left temple. At last(as if on cue) the subway arrived. Passengers piled on, but Noriko remained still. Once the subway station grew void of other people, she made an attempt to enter as well, but as expected, a hand grabbed a hold of her right arm; stopping her from entering the subway which was now making it's way back to the other side of Los Angeles. As Noriko watched the subway leave, her eyes began to water. Meanwhile, the gang members chuckled. Noriko thought to herself. ("Why do things like this always happen? If it wasn't for the closing events of 137 I might have...no, this is unlike me. I don't mean to cry these ridiculous tears...I guess i'm just sick of losing whether I win the fight or not, but I guess since the outcome is going to be the same, I might as well go out with a bang...right?") In the midst of Noriko's thoughts, the grunt grabbing a hold of her arm said something, but she wasn't really paying attention to what it was. Oh well. With her left hand, Noriko wiped a tear away before grabbing the grunt's taken hand and somersaulting behind him to bring him into a lock of sorts just in time to use him as a shield for the incoming crowbar and bat blows she was about to receive from the others. As the rest of the grunts were cursing and arguing about their previous mistake, Noriko went and got a head start up the steps and out of the subway. But unfortunately, she wasn't really watching where she was going and knocked into someone near the entrance. "Ouch...H-hey! Watch where you're going next time!" This was obviously not the fault of whoever she bumped into, but oh well. In the end, no one wins

[Baldur Odinson]

The man was very old, and thus knocked on his ass from her running into him. He appeared homeless, with a scent to match. His eyes were crystalline green, his beard long and terminating at his naval. It had gold loops, and silver chains throughout it. On his fingers were several rings, and around his neck was a necklace that shimmered as he fell. He started to try and push himself to a sitting position.

"Oh, pardon me...."

He rubbed the back of his head, looking to the stairs where he heard the boys rushing toward. He stood and took off the necklace, gently placing it around her neck.

"For you. For the trouble."

The five men finally reached the stairs and would start up. The old man turned to face them with her, assuming she stayed. Either that, or he would stop them from chasing after her.

After recovering from the fall, Noriko looked over to see who her unfortunate victim was. It was...an old man?! A great feeling of guilt covered Noriko as thought back to her harsh words toward him. Isn't insulting the elderly like, I don't know, 20 years of bad luck? As a shade of red began to fill her cheeks, Noriko attempted an apology as she attempted to help the man up. "I-i'm sorry, that wasn't what I meant, it's just that..-" She cut off as she remembered the grunts still giving chase to her, but was soon distracted by the old man whom put his necklace on her while she pondered what her next move would be. Looking closer at the man, he seemed to spell "homeless" all over, but it was his vast amount of jewelry that convinced Noriko to think otherwise. "H-hey, you don't have to-but I mean, I guess i'll take it..-" It seemed as if she could never really finish a sentence. Simply too much was going on and too fast. The two turned to see the grunts as they finally reached the top of the steps. ("It would be a mistake to take them on, but if I were to run for it, they might go for the old man next...! I guess I have no choice but to take them on myself.") Noriko walked in front of the old man; still facing the grunts who seemed to be whispering a plan of some sort to each other. "Stay behind me." This is probably either the dumbest thing she's done in her life, or the most courageous.  In the end, no one wins

(OOC:Hey, so I figured since you're a quest character as of now, you could gm the grunts if that's what you fancy. If not, then that's okay too. I just needed to see what the old man would do before I bring this thing full circle. :3)

"Oh....?"

Intriguing....she was wanting to save him. How admirable. Fredrick had never had someone step in on his behalf. He smelled, wore ragged clothes....the norm was a glare, or a passing glance at his strange appearance. She actually wanted to fight someone for him, even a large gang. He would gently place a callused hand on her shoulder.

"Admirable. But there is no need to fight. Come."

He would move through the opening at outside at the top of the stairs, turning left and moving through the small field of people...into a pet shop. Once inside, she would see a man sitting behind the counter, wearing a peacoat and kicking up his feet. He slammed the chair down and stood, eyes wide.

"FREDDIE BOY! The hell you been? You out picking up stays again?"

Fred would turn to the girl whom had not yet introduced herself.

"I suppose you could say I'm the stray here. Thomas, this is....?"

So, Noriko prepared to fight the gang, but the old man had other plans. He led Noriko through a crowd of people and into a pet shop. How peculiar. It seemed the gang members were uncapable of slipping through the crowd. They probably won't be showing back up anytime soon. Noriko definitely didn't object to escaping, since it meant things didn't have to get ugly after the fight.  She attempted to survey the pet shop's interior, but was quickly distracted by the booming voice of a man who resembled a drug lord or something. He was kind of annoying... Thomas was what the old man(now identified as Frederich)said. It seemed they were waiting for Noriko to introduce herself, and so she did just that. "I'm Rei. Your friend here showed me to this "hide out" to escape from some gang members I was preparing to fight when he showed up. B-but I wasn't trying to save him or anything!"  Why is  she here by the way? The man's safe, she's safe and the cats are safe too. "Well Frederich, I guess since your safe now, I should be going."  If these two were closer to her age, she might've had some sort of smart mouth comment for them. In the end, no one wins

As Noriko turned to go, the door opened, and a young blonde male entered. His green eyes steadied on her immediately, then on the necklace she wore. His thin gaze narrowed marginally, and he was clearly unwilling to move to allow her to leave. He slid his eyes up to Fred, and let out a slow breath.



"You gave the girl a gate? What is the meaning of this, Mr. Buxton?"

He was not happy. If Noriko tried to move around him, he'd reach out to grip her shoulder.

"Sorry, girl. But you're definitely not leaving."

Both Thomas and Fred watched her with a bemused expression, the older man turning to Ed as he walked in. He clasped his hands behind his back, his cool gaze maintaining their amusement.

"I was not aware, Mr. Deshie, that your approval was required. Yes, I gave her a gate."

He'd give a little smile to her.

"You can't leave- not at least until I tell you what you have there."

He'd start toward Thomas.

"Come."

As a new man entered, Noriko attempted to slip past him. However, she was kept from doing so by the firm grip of the individual now dubbed "Mr.Deshie". Unease enveloped Noriko as she came to the realization that the situation she had walked into, wouldn't be quite so easy to walk out of. She said nothing as she turned nervously to Freddy; who continued talking of some sort of "gate". He gave it to Noriko, so what he speaks of must be the pendant safely held on Noriko's neck. Fred smiled at her before stating the terms on which she can leave. ("What was so special about this necklace?  It couldn't be that important, considering Freddy gave it up so easily. Could it possess a certain power? No, he would have to be certain then that I wouldn't abuse it.") He beckoned for her to to follow him in Thomas's general direction. Assuming Mr.Deshie permitted her, Noriko would follow; uncertain of what's to come. (OOC:Sorry the response took so long! O_Q) In the end, no one wins
