"Where is he?"
"I don't know."
"I know when you lie, Reita. I've been playing along for a while."
"I don't know what you're talking about."
Yeah, Mitsuki was talking about the infamous Andrew. She had been searching for him for a while, wanting to return the necklace to him because it wasn't hers. She wasn't frustrated at all right now, nor was she angry - she knew that her brother was lying, and she was determined to get the answer out of him. And so, she gave him the silent treatment, refused to get his ice cream, dodged all the objects thrown at her, and refused to even spare him a glance...and he finally gave in. If anything, Reita hated being ignored by someone close to him - they were not only blood related, but in a way, the two were best friends. They were closer than one would have imagined.
"He's over at the Five Star Motel down by the beach. Room 313, third floor."
Mitsuki turned around and was about to walk away, until her brother stopped her physically, and handed her a set of keys. She stared at them blankly - they were the keys to his car, and he gave a small grin.
"Drive safely, buckle your seatbelt, and get me my ice cream before you come home."
She stared at him blankly before giving him a quick hug, and raced outside...
Inside the car, she did as she was told. Buckled her seat belt, followed all traffic rules - except the slight speeding - and managed to get to the hotel in less than twenty minutes. It would've been a while on foot, so she was thankful her brother lent her his car. Stepping out, she closed the door and locked it, before heading on inside. Not even bothering to go with the elevator, she pulled open the door to the stairs and skipped by twos on her way up - the reason she was in a hurry was to get this over with. Truth be told, she wasn't exactly ready to communicate with her childhood friend just yet. Once she reached level three, she walked down the halls, looking for 313, and once she found it, she knocked on the door.
However, on the door handle, the "Do Not Disturb" sign was in it. But she still knocked anyway.
"What!? Can't you see the 'DND' sign!?"
What's this...? His voice was definitely more...hoarse than last time. Instead of replying with him vocally, she knocked again, and was also prepared to kick the door down if need be. She'd toss him the necklace, then go on her way.
"Ugh, can you go get the door?
..wait a minute...
Most people would react with, 'I don't know you, who are you, what are you?'... But Mitsuki didn't "play" it that way. She did the first thing that crossed her mind, and she didn't feel any guilt what-so-ever. In fact, she's actually pretty glad she just sucker-punched a girl in the face. Besides, it's nothing pounds of make-up can't do to cover up that nasty bruise that was going to appear on her face.
Haha, yes, when the door opened, she punched whoever it was in the face. It was actually some girl, wearing only an oversized t-shirt, which belonged to Andrew himself. He was topless on the bed, a cigerette hanging loosely in his mouth, and when he turned to look over at what happened, his jaw dropped. Mitsuki didn't care about the weird-a-s look on his face, but instead, arched a brow when she saw the girl knocked out on the floor. She heard him curse, and she stepped inside, walking around the girl as she came face to face with Andy. He disposed the cigerette and stood up to greet her, but when the two met, she did the un-suspected.
She punched him too. Square in the jaw, and he looked angered, surprised, and saddened at the same time. She didn't punch him hard, but enough for his head to jerk to the side. A blank look on her face as she held up the necklace that belonged to him, and pressed it against his chest before turning to leave. The fact that he smoked sickened her, and she honestly didn't want to see him again. Not after what she saw.
On her way down the steps, she heard the door to the stairway open up, and shuffling down the stairs. Obviously, it was Andrew, and he somehow managed to get his shirt back. How he did, she didn't want to know. And when he tried to attempt in conversation with her, he was ignored.
"So Reita told you, huh?"
Ignored.
"So...how've you been?"
Ignored.
"Okay, I know you're angry with me, but can we please just talk this out?"
Obviously, no. Seeing that she was ignoring him.
"Aren't you being a bit childish? I mean, you're assuming that I did something with that girl when you didn't-"
Okay, so she couldn't ignore him this time. But come on!
"Honestly, I didn't assume anything about you and the girl. You should stop assuming things. I only came to return what belonged to you, and yeah, when I returned the necklace, I planned on punching you in the face. I'm not angry with you, I just don't want to see you right now."
"Look! I told you, she and I did nothing togeth-"
"I wasn't talking about the girl."
By then, they reached outside, and Mitsuki unlocked the car and stepped into the drivers seat, and planned on closing the door until a hand stopped her. Andrew, again. She finally met up to his gaze, where she was met with a saddened, disheartened look. He gave a sigh, before he started to speak. Honestly, he seemed like he knew what he wanted to say, but was a bit nervous about it. Not only that, but he kept avoiding her gaze now. She buckled her seatbelt and turned back to Andrew, wondering if he'd ever let go of the door so she can be on her way, or if he'll actually talk.
"Look, Mitsuki... I.. You know, I'm really sorry about keeping secrets from you and lying to you... And I..."
This is taking way too long.
"I.."
"Andrew, I have to go. Reita's waiting for me at home."
She cut in, looking away. She started the car up, and he only sighed in return, and closed the door, and in return, she opened the window, only to say goodbye.
"Let's meet up in two weeks, alright?"
Before she could say anything, he backed off, and Mitsuki gave a mental sigh. Rolling back up her window, she pulled the car into reverse, then to "Drive", and pressed against the pedal gradually. She took the long way to the store to buy his ice cream, only because she wanted time to think, and driving eased her mind. Not only that, but she was going approximately 65-70 MPH, a little over, which was way over 45.
And on the drive home from the grocery? She couldn't help but think: What happened to the Andy I once knew?
Mitsuki had recieved the information through her brother for the exact date, time and place to meet; it wasn't a formal meeting, just up at a cafe not too far off from the ocean view. And here she was, waiting in her car, doors locked, forehead pressed against the steering wheel, taking in deep breaths. She was about to tell him something very important today; something she never thought she'd never tell him, ever. It would forever change his life, and whether it would change hers, she did not yet know. A knock on the window of her car caused her to look up, and found Andrew there, giving a light smile as he waved. She only stared back blankly before unlocking her car and getting out, greeting him with a slight nod before turning her eyes away. It was then when she locked her car - or her brothers car - again, before going into the cafe, stepping in rhythm with Andrew, her childhood best friend, whom she had fallen in love with.
The two found their own seats, and she leaned back against her chair, her eyes directing at Andrew. When their eyes met, he gave her a warm smile, giving her that feeling she felt long ago, back when she was seven or eight. A waitress came by and left two cups of water, asked if they wanted anything, however, she said nothing, and so Andrew just ordered two cups of tea. The two didn't say anything for a while; half an hour must have passed before Andrew cracked the silence, his voice forcefully cheerful. It was obvious; this wasn't going as he planned, and so his smile was also forced, along with his laugh that went with his corny joke.
Mitsuki, on the other hand, remained still as ever. Unphased by the sudden change in the atmosphere and tension, it was time to break the news to him...but she couldn't. She didn't have the courage, nor did she have the will. Soon though, she told herself, soon. She'd break the news to him.
After another half an hour of silence when he stopped with his jokes, he ordered ice cream for the two; and although they ate ice cream in silence, the waitress did not bother to come by and ask if anything was needed. The tension was obviously thick.
Andrew was still thinking in the past. Back then, when ice cream solved all problems, did not work in the current time. Ice cream probably only solved all problems for Reita; the same did not go for Mitsuki...
There was once a time when Mitsuki was cheerful. An outgoing girl who had many friends, and was the worlds little sister. Everyone looked out for her, but most importantly, she looked out for them. They didn't know it, but she was always watching; always observant. They thought she didn't know anything, but she knew almost everything; the act of being innocent was on her side, but when the time came, when Andrew supposedly died... That's when the others found out that she knew. They tried to shelter her from the dangers of the world, tried to shape her into the perfect woman, though what's so perfect about not knowing certain things? What good use will there be if she doesn't know the bad things about the world?
It was then when she realized there was no good or evil, but a mere difference in opinions.
She made up her mind to tell him, and she said it without hesitation in case she decided to hold back once again.
"There's nothing left to say; you and I both know that better than anyone. Let's hope that in the future, we'll never see eachother again."
She said it, and she couldn't bare to look up to see his reaction on his face, so instead, she stood up and left the cafe, leaving him there. He was also looking away, off to the side, a hurt expression on his face, though also looked a bit blank. Frustration and anger welled up inside him, and he couldn't help but think that he lost her for a third time. Mitsuki was in her car, her forehead leaning against the steering wheel once again, and although she herself did not notice, two droplets of water escaped her eye lids, and dropped on her lap, and for the first time in the longest time, Mitsuki cried.
Sighing aloud to herself, she locked the car once again and wiped her face with the back of her hand; she pulled the mask over the lower portion of her face, and the blank look in her eyes returned as she started up the car. Before she started pulling away, she noticed someone coming out of the cafe, and she just knew it was Andrew; she didn't look over to see him, and she herself knew that he didn't bother to look in her direction either.
So what?
It was better this way, right?
Andrew walked his own way to his car, forcing himself not to look over at Mitsuki. He was supposed to tell her two important things today, but he had forgotten one, and lost all courage to tell the other, so he went to his last resort; her brother.
Once inside the car, he called him, his voice a bit shaky.
"Hey, it's Andrew..."
"Okay."
"...tell Mitsuki that... Brian Chang is in town..and he's looking for her."
"I know."
"...how?"
"Someone broke into our house; who else would it be?"
"Bastard..."
"Is that all?"
It was as if Reita knew that this wasn't the main reason why Andrew called; he was hesitant, but he sighed and said no.
"No... No, that's it... I'll talk to you later...oh, and do me a favour; don't tell Mitsuki I called."
And with that, he hung up.
-----------------------------------------
Reita had successfully managed to clean up the house by the time Mitsuki had come home. He already knew, without Andrew having to tell him, that she had cut off all source of communication with him - all but through him. She knew better than to ask him not to talk to a childhood friend. And the fact that she came home giving him the silent treatment was proof. Not even a nod - she went straight to her room. If it was one thing Reita couldn't ignore, it was his sister in distress. But what could he do? He was no good at comforting himself; how could he comfort others? He cursed to himself mentally, punching the wall and creating a rather large hole. His sisters feelings were his own, so he, too, was feeling quite in the bitter mood. Though, their reasons were different. He had, once again, failed in protecting his sister. Emotionally.
"Mitsu..."
He whispered quietly to himself, giving a heavy sigh. Although he was, in reality, only three or so minutes older than her, the two siblings treated each other as if there was a two year difference. He remembered the last time this happened, he drowned himself in alcohol because he was unable to shake off this bitterness forming inside of him. Besides, it was only natural for an older brother to form some sort of hatred to the boy who dared to make the younger one cry, only Reita knew Mitsuki didn't cry. Or...did she? He sighed - the last time he had seen her cry was too long ago.
He suddenly found himself in front of her door. Surprised at where his feet had led him, he wrapped his hand around the handle and turned; he was found surprised yet again. The door remained unlocked. Pushing the door forward, he stepped in to see Mitsuki lying down on her bed, her face blank, not even looking over at Reita to welcome him in. Inviting himself into her room, he sat at the edge of her bed. The second he sat, she closed her eyes, a disturbed look on her face.
"SHT!"
She cursed aloud, catching him off guard. Her breathing was deep, he noticed, along with the fact that her face had turned a little pink. Again, he felt this strong bitter sensation coming from the bottom of his gut, but he knew if he could feel her emotion, she could probably sense his too. He was trying desperately to stay calm; two raging siblings who could cause mass destruction if they wanted to...? Not such a great combo. Abruptly, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her up, and into an embrace. He knew his sister was not a touchy-touchy person, but it would be the first embrace they had in a while - possibly the first since they were siblings.
"Oppa..."
She whispered, and he sighed. The stress and exhaustion coming from her voice only made him tired as well. His hand landed on top of her head and brushed through her hair. The word, 'oppa' rang through his head. Why? Because ever since they met each other again after the years of being apart, she started calling him "nii-sama"; he wondered if she'd ever see him as a brother - an equal - instead of a brother who was required to have respect. Though, he knew after today, she'd start calling him "nii-sama" again, but it was nice to hear, even if it was just only this one time. It was nice to hear.
She let out her anger with that one curse word. Surprising? Nah. Why was she angry though? Because. She couldn't get Andrew off her mind. Did she make the right choice? She wondered. Did she do the right thing? Or was she just delaying the inevitable? She calmed herself down and let herself melt in the embrace with her brother. And slowly, although it required many hours, she began to fall asleep on her brother, who, in truth, was already asleep.
And so the two siblings went off into their own little unconscious states.....sitting up.
"I don't know."
"I know when you lie, Reita. I've been playing along for a while."
"I don't know what you're talking about."
