Avice sat in her hospital bed fiddling with what looked like a black dirty rock, little would most people see it was actually a painted diamond. David Blaze gave it to her and she was not sure really why. If she tried to sell it, anyone would have thought it was stolen and refused to do business. Maybe it would help sell her out of a bind in the future but she ached to think about using it as a scapegoat. Out of boredom, however, she would be scraping off the paint and just look at it. It was honestly hard to not watch light reflect through a diamond. While she would not see neat little rainbows or anything it was still neat to see.
Her phone rang at that moment and she sat it down in her lap and not even looking at the number knowing it was going to be something along the lines of "Blocked", "Unknown", or just not saved in her phone. The only people that called her were business deals.
She pressed it against her ear and spoke. "'Ello, I am out of business for a while, call someone else." she'd simply hang up right then and that was the end of it. She looked down at her missing leg. She learned she built up a resistance to the drugs but even after a couple of days it wasn't like she needed them. Seemed like everything was healing fine. Of course, she seeded to practice this meditation thing Eric would have her start on. She held the diamond in her lap once more and lean back in her bed. The light that came through its rough surface felt nice and she had half a mind to set it in whatever limbs she'd end up getting.
Honestly of the Folder options Blaze wrote for her getting the Hammer or the God prosthetics seemed to be a likely option for her needs. Of course, the BLZ just sounded like too great of a risk at her current level. She sat the diamond on her chest covering it with her hand and closed her eyes to anyone else it would likely look like she was napping. She'd not be sure it actually mattered what position it too while you "meditated" so she did not concern her self with the technicalities. Taking deep breaths she was interrupted by a weird feeling in her chest. This weird feeling came in and out since... well since she had her training with Eric in their game of tag. It seemed to feel like it was pushing through her ribs. Not really physically or painfully doing so. But it felt weird and it wasn't apart of her.
She'd ignore it and try again to meditate. She'd be stroking the diamond with a thumb while she did this. Something mind-numbing to keep her thoughts from straying. Taking deep breaths and even doing this inhale through her nose to exhale through her mouth.
The phone rang again and she just shot her eyes open and groaned. She looked at the word "blocked" on her phone. It was probably one of her high profile customers. She answered it and pressed it to her ear. "I am not runnin' for anyone currently, sorry for the inconvenience this might cause ya. I recommend ya find another Runner to make farther business with." She'd go to hang up when a burst of laughter caught her attention.
"They already did! I wanted you to know I am taking good care of your clients!" A voice she recognized and hated. "Someone who saw her as a close business rival and someone who was obviously making absolute bank picking up her slack. It pissed her off that they were interrupting her silence to gloat, it pissed her off that she was out of business, to begin with, because of some dumb reason to join Cabal.
"Aye, thanks for pickin' up mi slack... hope ya're not a second too late on any delivery. Some'll end ya for that alone." She hung up before hearing their reply. It just pissed her off and angered her enough that she turned off her phone and raised her arm and heard the tick on her wrist only to toss it in the garbage seeing it slam into the wall and crack and shatter itself scattering about the trash bin and in it. The Speed was blinding and the noise it made echoed through the place. Fuck! That felt good! But she paused listening to see if anyone came to investigate. Once they didn't she sat back and decided to think about what she really just did. It was like she finally figured out what that watch actually did. Honestly, she could be thankful it saved her life that day, even if it couldn't save all of her she was still able to wear the silly thing.
She was done running...
She sat fuming not wanting to let that voice get under her skin. She has reached an end of the Runner business it was all she ever knew and it kept her happy and comfortable. Able to travel, able to taste food that was unique and memorable, able to see remarkable places, and meet remarkable people. Would she do that as a Cabal soldier or Die Trying? So far it looked like she would die trying if she didn't figure out how to get good. This was her only hope of recovery and salvation. She finally realized she didn't have to go through it alone either. Eric and Blaze handed her the tools. Avice just needed to learn how to use them trusting neither of them gave her a balloon to hammer a nail with.
She began to repeat the process that started her on this. This time she heightened her senses bringing up her perception and awareness as if that was going to help her further explore this Qi business she dived into. breathing, holding onto this object, and trying to ignore that pulsing in her chest. However, that last one made itself quite known the more she relaxed and took out the rest of the room. It was to the point she was mostly focusing on that. It was to the point that she could not feel her physical self and just felt that feeling squirming through her insides... maybe not her physical insides. Something clicked within her about this Qi stuff. She never really looked inside herself. Always filling her time with business or pleasure. things that seemed so temporary and meaningless now. She breathed and felt it spread realizing it was not just a little pulse but something that was already apart of her. Something that felt limited by only her own ignorance. She was not about to let this level of comfort cease to be ignored.
She remained here, it was warm. Almost as if she was introducing herself to her Qi. She didn't think about reputation, she didn't think about what to do next or where to be at this time. She didn't think about those who she felt only ever looked down their nose at her. she didn't have to prove herself here. It was just herself.
What a surprise that a weight had been lifted off her shoulders. she can't remember breathing as easily as she might be doing right now. She was upset that closing that familiar door was something he had to do and choosing another to open was horrifying... but this is why she travels the world and takes dangerous jobs. Fear was never something she let hold her like a leash. But she wouldn't have guessed that holding onto this familiar life would be her real leash.
