Check Up [David]

[Arianna Barrial]

"He's excluded from anything we say in this space. I thought you'd feel more comfortable if you could just...be, given the circumstances." Arianna sighed softly, already feeling the compelling pull of empathy. "You're safe."

[David B.]

"I-I see."

She seemed to visibly relax.

"I should tell you then...I believe I have internal injuries. I have some...pretty severe abdominal pain, and over the last few days, My stomach has swelled slightly."

Good thing there was a small ultrasound unit. Arianna inhaled slowly and walked over to it, wheeling the cart over.

"Well, let's have a quick look, then, to make sure and so I know what I'm dealing with." There was a tightness gathering in her throat, and she figured that from here she would be needing to act quickly. The machine beeped to life and Arianna slathered a layer of gel over the sensor; as long as she was laying down Arianna would press it against her lower abdomen. "They beat you, on top of everything else..?"

She could only assume rape wouldn't be good enough on its own.

[David B.]

She lay down as ordered.

"They tried to rape me at first. I stabbed one in the crotch. Then they beat me. The rape followed that."

Arianna would find that the stomach was distended, slightly darkened, and very soft....if she shifted it around a little, it would feel like pushing water around in a balloon.

"How is it?"

The woman stared up at the ceiling. Arianna would see absolutely copious amounts of blood with the ultrasound.

She already knew she was probably hemorrhaging just based off the looks alone, now she needed to find the source of the bleeding.

"It's not great. You're bleeding internally. You're going to need a transfusion and drain, and I'm going to need to mend the source of the bleeding." To her credit Arianna was calm and quite composed, but still moving quickly. "Where did they hit you? And how long ago?"

If it wasn't from the rape it was likely from that, which could easily mean kidney, liver, or another part of her abdomen.

It did occur to her she could take the easy way out, but that wasn't like her.

She set the instrument on the table at her feet and then crossed to start to hook up the IV pole with a bag of o-negative blood, experienced hands making quick work of the prep. Small incisions, her mind decided, and she could use her string qi to make sure she could work internally by monitoring over the ultrasound unit. That would be the fastest way...

If it was a slow bleed she might have some time, but...she doubted it. Why would things start to go right, right now?

[David B.]

Since she'd been bleeding for a few days, it was actually a very slow bleed, the Warden sighing.

"They kicked me all over, repeatedly. I've had some stomach aches though..."

[Arianna Barrial]

"I don't doubt, Abigail... We'll have you on the mend soon." She went on the hunt for painkillers and a surgical drain, in the mean time. "How much pain are you in?"

She'd have to scrub up, soon enough...which meant she'd have to have David take the bubble down. For now, she was content to quickly prep what she needed.

[David B.]

"Mm...it's like if you eat too much candy? Just sore, no appetite."

She sat up to watch Arianna work.

"Surgery, then?"

[Arianna Barrial]

"Yes, but unless it's absolutely necessary I won't be making any large incisions. Unfortunately your abdomen is filling with blood, which is why I'll be inserting a drain. I'll be able to get a better look at things with the blood draining off, and where I'll need to give your body a hand with stemming the bleeding so it can heal. You're good with that, yes?"

At least, Arianna could only assume so.

It was a good thing it was a slow bleed, at least it gave her a bit of time to reassure her if not.

She nodded.

"Do what you have to do."

There was a knock at the door.

Arianna nodded...and then hesitated at the knock. She turned and moved for the door, wary despite feeling at home in the medical bay. She took a deep breath and would open the door with a foot braced against the bottom.

Who was there if not David and what was going on?

[David B.]

Twas David!

"Sorry- I was just wondering if I should let in some of these nursing staff. They had an empty facility and so they stay in a more protected area until needed, but it seems one of the guards got them for us...?"

...

...so this day was now going right..?

Arianna blinked a few times, somewhat astounded - but, she supposed that would make sense - and then smiled.

"I'd love the help, to be honest. They're most welcome."

[David B.]

David stepped aside, and three very kind nurses would go in, wearing scrubs- two men, one woman. They'd promptly start washing their hands.

David, however, tethered them....so that while he couldn't hear what was happening constantly, if someone screamed for him, he could be notified.

Better to be safe than sorry.

Arianna stepped aside and closed the door afterwards, and went to set Abigail up on an IV line with painkillers, leaving the transfusion line for now. Had she known David tethered them she probably would have been more grateful than anything, but as it was, she went about her business doing what was necessary for a lot of the prep.

"Looks like I have some helping hands. I'm going to start the painkillers, and we'll get you on the mend, alright..?"

As she moved, Arianna kept the others in easy sight. She would have to wash up after, but better than having to wash again...and she wanted to make sure the right things were given.

Call her a control freak if you had to...she called it insurance in a facility where she wasn't one hundred percent certain of anything.

Even as much as she automatically trusted the trio of nurses.
