She lied in the hospital bed and she was covered head to toe with lacerations, bruises, broken bones,... and burns. Loads of burns. Her body would be scared to the nines. She felt tired she hadn't seen much of the sun in days. Even asked for an extra blanket for the chill of the hospital room was getting to her. There was a window but it was just enough light to keep her docile and aware.
Besides that she knew what she did. She killed some people. They killed half a school but she killed them and she cant even remember the faces if who else she attacked. Well except her comrades... She sawed their faces and she didn't care. She was just as happy to peal those face off as she was to make them smile. How twisted is that. Her eyes burned from the tears that fell from them. Why couldn't she control her temper? She had to be so angry and competitive. She had to hate losing. Not like her parents were at all. Mother was so level headed and logical and father was sturn and stoic. Both gave her firm hands and gentle hugs. Oh how she'd disappoint them with the person she'd become. Bursting from the seams with danger she could hardly tell what thoughts were truly her own. What would she do now? Why was she like this?
"Rhona Agatha Hall!" through bandages her heart leaped from her chest hearing her full name from the one person who terrified her just as much as she loved her.
"Granny?" she sat up and weakly scurried back at the thin little woman's approach.
When the old woman raised a finger to Rhona the god of death peaked from behind the old lady. As sheer terror filled her body and upon touching Rhona her body pulsed and her Qi was shoved from her body painfully making her cry out before her own Qi came right back in her body. It was an experience similar to being stretched like rubber band and snapped back again and it hurt. Horribly. Her grandmother's Qi was not removing it or taking it it was just shifting it from with in the body and not where you'd be able to use it best shoving a full body's worth of Qi into a single finger brings for the same feeling of it about to burst but not actually causing harm. Tricking the body to believing you are in pain. The young blonde was breathing heavily and her eyes rolled to the back of her head as she was mere moments from passing out with her other injuries feeling freshly open. It sent her into shock but she was otherwise no worse off than she had been previously.
Her grandmother waited patiently for her grand daughter to come out of her trance. She sat down and crossed her legs one over another and dug a nail picking one ear and rested a suit case in her lap.
"Stupid girl!" she'd grumble as Rhona lifted her head to look at her.
"Oi, you shouldn't use so much of your energy you are pushing 70 you know..." if the old broad used a lot of ger Qi she naps and forgets to eat.
"You have forced my hand girl." she spat at Rhona. "Remember the last time I pulled my Qi on you?"
She didn't have to answer, Rhona's face and utter silence said it all. She was about fourteen and her Qi had awoken maybe a couple years before she felt like such a hot shot and it got to her head. When one of her Dad's other students had angered her trying to prove his was a stronger Qi. It was a fun battle at first but then Rhona got to proud and full of her self leaving messy burns on the boy and... Well it didnt end well for Rhona when her granny got a hold of her.
"You'd have been publicly humiliated in my day this comfy bed would have been a pike they chained you to." she scolded.
"Yes' granny." she answered head hung low.
"I dont know what is in store for you Rabbit but I wanted to give you this suit case before I couldn't." she looked at Rhona with a growing scowl. "On your parents grave you have not earned it but be damned if I let it go up in a blaze the same as they."
She chunked the suit case into Rhona's gut where the majority of the worse wounds ended up. "Ugh!" she winced from the pain and gripped the case firm until it passed. Grandmother lived in the rougher years of this post apocalypse where rules were made by the strong and respect was gained for those who trudged their way up from the lowest of mud, blood, and shit and say "tis but a scratch."
But Rhona looked at the unopened suit case and sat in silence. "I understand why you came all this way granny but if this is what I think it is then I most certainly cant see it. I have allowed things to infect my body and while I fight them they have fought back in the worst of ways. And I'll not be able to tell friend from innocent or enemy. I'd not shoulder this burden and stain our family with the blood I leave behind."
"Stupid Rabbit..." the old lady cursed. "I brought it because it is a lesson that should help you. Blood and Qi fuel the roots of our family tree. It is our legacy not our shame. Bad blood however infects all families. If you do not straighten up your act we'll be lost to history and you'll never gain the gods favor."
"Granny! I was no better than a Qi beast the other day! What makes you think I'd gain any favor of the gods?" Rhona snapped and flinched as her grandmother's hand rose again threatening to come at her once more.
Grandmother held her finger firm in the air as she spoke. "You'd do well to remember how Apollo was a God of wolves. God of beasts and a bringer of light both symbolic to a new dawn and a battle to be won. Even if it means blood being spilled." Rhona was silent. Granny knew how she enjoyed the idea of growing strong enough to be the next Apollo. That was her driving force most days of training. To please the gods and be brought up as the next candidate. It was a big seat to fill that a lot of people want and she had only toyed with the idea but if she ever made it a reality she'd be completely satisfied with her life. Literally couldn't be happier. "Oi, Rabbit... You have to get a grip on this Beast in you. Now it IS you so you take up the responsibility of your actions. This suit case explains everything." she dropped her menacing finger and came to her grand daughter's bedside gripping her head and pulling it in to kiss her forehead before smacking the back of it. Which caused Rhona to exhale but give a loving smile seeing her granny's gentle face. Silently saying how much they loved each other before leaving Rhona sat back tired to boot before opening up the small suit case.
Inside were records and notebooks that mentioned her family history and early Qi beasts. Rhona's awareness of her Qi and it welcoming and adapting to other Qi she'd come in contact with seemed to have stemmed from this. This was the truth of her ancestors even drawings showing what they looked like. Some more beastly looking than others but it made sense to Rhona.
She thought of it like an infection and likely it originally was... But now it was apart of her and it was growing stronger with her. She tried to get rid of it, hide it, and suppress it but it wasn't going anywhere. She wants to make the worst kind of people pay for their deeds just like those that killed her parents. But she needed to strengthen herself for she could see she had a ways to go. With a new understanding a plan was forming. She'd close her eyes to sleep and feel her Qi and not separate that beastly part from hers any longer.
She'd make it apart of her. The wolf that snarled and reared its fangs as she stood in her battle stance. She'd not throw the punches and she'd not let it consume her either. They'd gain even ground. She'd go forward from here with that as new found strength and no longer a weakness.
It was a little late on Rhona settling it however. The damage was already done and she got word that once she was well enough to stand she'd be heading to pier 14 until further noted.
