She pushed her way out of the Starbucks, holding onto her white mocha like it could cure cancer. Her hair was loose, and about her shoulders in curls. Pushed up on her head was a pair of white sunglasses. She had worn the Diesel leather mini-shirt, a nice brown thing with brown camo print like shirt. It dipped in the front, showing cleavage with that wolf fang necklace in a scooped neckline. Her boots were just plain brown leather, slightly darker than her skirt.
Kate wasn't paying attention where she was going, looking at her cell phone with a frown and taking sips from her drink. Why the hell was he texting her? She had sold the damned company! She wasn't in charge anymore!!! Shaking her head, she just put her cell on silent and shoved it into her brown purse. Freaking losers. It wasn't her problem anymore. Maybe she should change her cell number?
The blonde kept walking down the sidewalk, not really wanting to leave the area yet, though her mini-cooper was parked just down the road. Starbucks was not to be spilled on her new car. Her baby. A white mocha was good, but the cost of getting that cleaned... No she stopped on the sidewalk, standing there as she sipped on her drink, trying to sort through what she had to do that day.
OOC: Karel first ^^

Even this guy needed his fix. That vanilla latte always seemed to bring out the best in him - and when it was taken away you'd be in quite the unfavourable scenario. As of now the senior himself enjoyed the hot beverage - taking sips from the lid like any other drink he was loving the essence of sweetness - the equivalent of foreplay in sex. That's when a familiar face came to view... a second in command of an enemy gang... that, although never truly presented a threat to Reign of Blood, had really been the only one around for some sorts of social events. But that was behind him now. He stopped on the sidewalk, too - only he wasn't anymore closer to the road than the blonde was.
"Kate, right?"

The blonde jumped as someone said her name. The bright green eyes looked over her shoulder to see a certain face. Both her eyes closed as she wanted to shoot herself in the foot. Why hadn't she gotten away from the students at 552? Why? "Hi Karel." The blonde continued to sip at her mocha, trying to calm herself on the inside. He seemed a little bit different, if ever short on words. Kate didn't know that Karel had even been in RoB, but instead, had avoided him at 552 for her own reasons. "How's it going?" Maybe if she was polite, and normal, she could make a quick get away. She frowned as her phone went off again in her pocket. She must have not saved the setting. Damned thing. Kate merely ignored it and waited for Karel to say something. Though, she had to wonder, if he said more than a few words...would he explode? Kate hadn't heard him talk normally in more than a few words. Quieter than most males she had met. Odd really.

It was true... Karel, if anything wasn't the type to talk much. Especially in social situations. But here it seems, that despite the scars of the past he was almost well-off. Of course he could still be honest with himself, and still be on the run from Manhattan law... but right now, those things didn't matter. The demon he once was, was condoned into another part of his mind. Bottling it up, it seemed weird to see someone on the other side of the damn country. Guess going too far wasn't a good idea after all... but hopefully, she too had placed their little mishaps behind them.
"Fine I guess, but... I have to ask - what are you doing all the way out here?"

Kate was a little caught off guard by what he said, but merely smiled slightly. Not many people had known at 552. That she had come from Cali before the New York madness.
"I grew up in California. I just...decided to come home. As close to home as I dared." It wasn't LA....but it was close enough for Kate. She wouldn't tread the waters of her home city, but as long as she was in Cali, she felt fine.
For a few moments, Kate just sipped at her mocha, thinking on it all. Karel seemed to have...changed. Just a bit, as if he had jut let the past be the past. And Kate wouldn't mind doing the same, and actually be friendly toward him.
"And yourself?"

He too, spent time thinking. And although he asked her that sort of question... it was sort ... and impulsive act. Honesty had to get him somewhere. Going to LA was one of the spots he thought about going... or even Seattle or just out of the country completely. Placing the lid close to his mouth, he thought about it. Why had he gone in the first place...? For Celeste? That was only one of his many reasons. He took a sip - long one.
"... I guess, some people just want a new start."
Maybe she understood.

A little chuckle left her lips. Some people just wanted a new start? No one could really ever have a truly fresh start...unless you counted those who just made their minds forget completely. But you could always try, right?
"People just need that sometimes. I needed that, and yet I'm running into more 552 faces than I'd ever thought to see again in my life." The list would keep going on too, it seemed. Hiroko, Karel, Ghiste, she had seen a few others in the hallways, in passing. Even one from before 552, Rayne.
"You go to 259?"

Oh, he said yes in his own way - by dodging it completely and implying something else.
"I don't disappoint."
He couldn't help but offer her a light hearted grin. Of course he went to Public Highschool 259. He wasn't keen on going to a private school - despite the good grades he might get, someone of his smarts really didn't need to go that extra mile. He was good as he was thank you very much.
"Were you hoping I wasn't?"

So, they were going to the same school. She paused after he spoke for the second time. Had to think on it, slowly sipping her coffee. Her bright eyes were locked on the street before her. A red car zooming by snapped her out of her trance. Out of her memories.
"Maybe. I don't know, it's hard for me to let go of the past sometimes. But...if you don't think anything on it, I won't. I need friends, not enemies or people who think badly of me. I don't... want a repeat of 552."
She shifted her mocha to one hand, and then held out the other to Karel. An agreement of sorts. She would be nice, civil, polite, possibly even really friendly, if he would. Kate didn't say anything, just looked at him. But she needed this. Needed to know that the past wouldn't be held against her, even by the one she had made the mistake with. Kate didn't exactly blame him, she had asked for it. But in the end, she needed some kind of ending to it all. The blonde would feel if he accepted or not. But if he did, it would help her mentally. It would make her feel better. Better than she had in awhile, just to know things were fixed...even if just slightly.

Mistake? A mistake was a choice that someone made - and so was a success. The only difference between a mistake and a success was simply the finer details... human details. If Kate held regret for allowing him to be the first to show her the physical pleasures, then that had nothing to do with "mistakes". If she learned from whatever had transpired... regardless of whether she had changed then it was still counted as a success.... unless, she regretted losing her first time in the back of a hummer. Or was it sleeping with a gang leader of an opposing gang? No matter.
He lowered his head to look at her offering. A handshake? Unless it was for business situations, Karel in such things. After a second's glance he looked back up to her, eye-to-eye before nodding his head once.
"Alot of us left for our own reasons. I doubt anyone wants a repeat."
And here, he would offer something rare. A light smile, as he too wished to lighten the atmosphere.
"... I wasn't all that bad, was I?"

Kate dropped her hand, a little disappointed maybe...but that had been Karel's choice. But she gave a small chuckle when he spoke. Had he been all that bad? No...not at all. The most gentle... that much was for sure. The others had been...rougher.
"No... I just shouldn't have done such a thing in the back of a hummer...don'tcha think?"
Kate chuckled again. Had Karel seduced her? In way, one could look at it like that. She had been hurting... from yet another man just up and leaving her. And she had found comfort in Karel's arms until he had pried. Until he had tried to understand what was going on in her mind, why she was doing stuff. Could she answer that question now?
Why not?
"My father... I found out he was in the loony bin then... he had just up and left me when I was almost fourteen. Ever since, I've had issues with men in my life leaving me. Friends were different...but those I tried to come to love... if they left, it killed me inside. Just a bit each time. You came across me when the...third just up and left without even a note... I felt cold, and I wanted to feel warm. And while, it should have been in a better place, you helped me for a bit. So...that's what happened, to answer a question almost two years old..."

Hnnh...
Either way you looked at it, Kate was just trying to be more polite about her leaving him. After all, she was the one who left.... if that was the sort of thing that comforted her, then why'd she leave? It didn't matter... he was probably just a rebound. And no matter who, and no matter where... the rebounds always suffer the most. In the case of Karel, he was plain and simply worse off.
"You're... lucky."
He didn't know how else to say it. Perhaps it was just coffee, but somehow... he had gotten more talkative than most would usually observe.
"... some people are already dead."
The problem with Karel was that... although he was dead, he was still somehow walking. No reason to live, no reason to die - stuck in the world between...
