Diana stared for a moment.
"Hades isn't just a God as a title or a name for his people. Anger him and he will rip your soul from your body... If you are lucky he will devour it. When his son The Kraken perished in the battle he pulled his soul from the afterlife to ask him if he wished to live again. If so it would take some doing with more God's that rule over death since his body was vaporized."

Diana would shake her head.
"Some are under that delusion, power hungry and insane. Others however understand there is ritual and power granted from the old ways. It is difficult after witnessing some of the things they do and to deny that they do hold Dominion over death."
She would then go on.
"As for the testing, when Artemis died her God Right had returned to the source. Those who have no fallen to delusion know the competition is for chosing someone worthy, while those who believe see it as a reincarnation of some kind."
She sighed and shook her head again with a shrug.
"The mind will play any trick to rationalize something you don't understand."

He couldn't trust his people to the whims of a God. That felt too close to what the previous Elder had wanted himself to be.
