Melanie stride directly to the Trainee Board. She was not even a bit nervous, on the contrary, she was ready. She had practiced all the past week with Krane, when he had free time, on what all she was going to do. Melanie waited out side as instructed by the young lady behind the counter. She had only been waiting seventeen minutes when the woman returned.
“The board will see you now, miss Ross. Please proceed to the examination room for testing. Good luck.”
“Thank you Misses Reed. I’ll be fine.”
Melanie gave a little smile.
“You’ll be great!”
Misses Reed beamed.
Melanie stood, straightened her dress clothes and headed for the doors. Before pulling them open, she checked her hair. It was perfectly smoothed back into a high, tight bun atop her head. She breathed in deep and let it go, finally opening the doors, she stepped through. To the left was a bunch of stacked tables and chairs. To the right, a wooden dummy. Melanie had to fight the urge to make it dance. How’s that for different? She smiled to herself. Directly in front, the Trainee board all sat behind one long table. Mister Asiv sat directly front and center. Melanie directed her gaze and words directly at him as she moved to stand in front of the table.
“Melanie Ross. Twenty two years of age. Qi ability: plant manipulation. Today I will be showing two of the abilities I have found work quite well together.”
Unsure of what to say next, Melanie moved to the dummy and assumed a battle ready position. She took another steady in breath before she reached out not her bag pullling out a single long stem rose. Melanie raised her hand and snapped it back down as the stem elongated forming 300itself into a rose whip. She cracked the whip again, as if to prove her point to the dummy that he was in for some pain. She caught herself smiling as she brought her hand to the base of the whip and slid her hand over it, effectively gathering the leaves. Once she had gathered all the leaves from the whip, Melanie would snap the whip back and fhen foreard entangling the waist. Jerking the whip back, she would throw her other hand forward. As the dummy flew at her, the leaves would fly towards it. Each leave cut into the dummy and etched themselves into its ‘skin’. The dummy clattered to her feet, leaves sticking out of it and showing incredible signs of disarray. 425
Melanie returned her attention to the trainee board.
“Thank you for seeing me today and allowing me to present my abilities to you on a professional level.”
She slightly bowed her head again and exited the room. Carefully stepping over the dummy with leaves in it as well as a long stem rose that was perfectly tied around the middle.485 Melanie gently pushed open the doors, barely able to hide her smile. As soon as she exited and the door was closed behind her, she was grinning ear to ear.
“Did you do well?”
Misses Reed was practically dancing from foot to foot.
Melanie grinned back.
“I did awesome.”
