Stevie awoke with a start. Feeling eyes watching you does that. She gazed around the room and saw the usual: her room was locked with three bolts, her clothes from yesterday lie scattered about the floor, the bathroom door was open just enough to let in a little light, her closet door was closed. She sighed and laid back down on the bed. She could feel something was different, she just wasn’t sure what. Stevie looked at the moon outside her window. It had to be a little bast three. She sighed and let the blanket fall back over the window, shutting out the world again. Stevie rolled over to go back to sleep but then let out another sigh. NOW that she was awake, her body reminded her of its needs. She threw off her banker and looked into he bathroom to relieve herself. She opened the door and winced as the light attacked her sleepy eyes.
...
Once done, Stevie made her way back to her bed and climbed in. She didn’t lie down. Instead, she propped up her pillows and sat there, staring at the wall with the calendar, that she was a part of, hanging on the wall. Mathew Amtrum, Earth Dragon, was on this month. Her eyes moved over his chest, face and clothing. She felt her cheeks warm slightly and dropped her eyes to her sheets. Stevie bit her lip.
”So i’m Supposed to be the Water Dragon. What even... Do I need to DO anything? What does it REALLY mean to be a Dragon?” Several thoughts ran around her head, some circling and coming back making second even third passes. Stevie sighed again. She sighed a lot. Laying her head against the desk behind her, she closed her eyes. All she had seen so far from the dragons was fighting when needed and protecting people. THIS she could do. Hell, it was all she did before as TIME Officer Captain. Her thought traveled to Leon. Where was he? On a long mission was all he told her. She didn’t ask more than that. It wasn’t her business. If he had asked her to go, she would have agreed. Happily. He might he left they had shared a moment. Stevie’s lips pulled into a smile at the memory of it. It was a great memory. She wondered when he would return. What he was doing. And, again, where he was. What would happen when he did return? Would hinge be different between them? There would not be any tension. They had solved any tension the night he left. What if he had changed his mind and wanted her? Would she accept now? She doubted it. Leon had made himself clear. He liked her, sure, but he didn’t want to be with her. Stevie didn’t really mind that realization though. Oddly enough she was at peace with their relationship— or lack there of. She found it humorous. The prospect that their roles may have changed was quite amusing.
She opened her eyes and reached for the window again. It was daytime now. She blinked in the blinding light and gazed up at the sun, it was past ten. Had she fall asleep? Wow. What a long time to sleep and not even notice it. Her eyes finally adjusted and what she saw made her blood run cold. All over the front lawn lay dead bodies of students and military members of Cabal. The grass ran red and bled from the excess amount of blood on the field. In the center of the carnage, Leon and Asiv stood together joking, smoking and bloodied. Stevie’s eyes filled with tears as she took in the scene around her. Asiv spotted her and pointed. Leon turned around and smiled, raised his hand to wave, and shouted ‘come on down, honey. I’ve really missed you.’ Stevie’s tears spilled over and she cried out.
Suddenly sitting up, Stevie screamed and looked about her room. Everything was the same. Horror struck, she turned and wretched the window open. It was still dark and the lawn was just as it should have been. Stevie jumped up and ran to her door. Jerking it open as quickly as she could, she peered into the hall. Nothing was amiss. It was quiet with the occasional snore echoing down the hall. Stevie breathed a relieved sigh and slowly closed her door.
Just a dream. Nothing more.
