Rai would take a sip of his own deliciously sweet coffee, it went perfectly well with the deliciously sweet cookie.
"So, do you know who murdered your father, and/or why?"
He would ask curiously.

Melanie put her cup down and picked up a cookie. She didn’t eat it yet, just played with it.
“He was on his way home from work. Another day at the office.”
She chuckled humorlessly.
“The day prior he had learned that I had accidentally killed a fellow student in my class. He couldn’t speak to me. The next day he was on his way home and he was murdered for the watch he wore.”
She threw her cookie back on the table and slammed her fist down on it.
“IT DIDNT EVEN WORK.”
She shouted and then regained composure quickly, clearing her throat.
“He had stopped by a councelor and purchased my moms favorite flowers. Chrysanthemums. My favorite flowers.”
She leaned back in her chair and sighed.

He let her have her outburst without reacting. Rather he would calmly take another sip of his coffee. When she finished Rai would nod.
"Did they ever catch the murderer?"

Melanie shook her head. Discuss clearly written on her face.
“No. That’s one of the reasons why I was at the cemetery today. I was letting go. I’m not going to hunt the men down anymore. Even though I know who they are and where they are. I can’t let this grudge control my life anymore.”
Melanie lifted a part of cookie and chewed on it. It was good.

"If you know who, and where they are, then why not end this a different way?"
Rai would ask.
"Think of it this way, if you let them go, and they kill someone else, wouldn't you also be responsible for that death? So, why not stop them now. Prevent them from taking another girl's father."

Melanie lifted her coffee, holding the warm mug in her hands.
“I don’t like what the hatred is turning me into. I’m not the same person as I was before. I can deal with the loss, hell it’s been five years. I can’t deal with looking in the mirror and seeing someone I despise.”
Melanie took a sip. She didn’t want to drink anymore. This talks was turning her insides. She set the mug back down.
“It’s a group of bandits in territory 258.”

He smiled. That was a good answer. Maybe there was hope for the future generations. Rai would pick up his coffee and down it then grab one more cookie putting in his mouth as he reached in his pockets pulling out a couple wadded up bill's placing them on the table. He would stand up and pull the cookie out of his mouth.
"I like the way you see things. You keep to that belief of yours and hold onto it tightly. Don't let anyone take something that special away from you. But, if you will excuse me, I must be off. I've got some business to see to."
Rai would say as he started walking towards the door. He had decided he was curious about matters in 280, and wanted to check them out himself.
"Please, enjoy the coffee and the rest of the cookies. I hope we run into each other again. I want to see how much progress you make."
He would say with a smile.

Melanie thought about what he had said.
“And that’s it.”
Melanie shook her head. That was all people ever did. Yeah. She guessed he was a Dragon then. It made sense now. They learned what they needed to and moved the fuck on.
“It was good meeting you, Raikotsu.”
Why was she disappointed with how the conversation ended? It’s not like he had any reason to be interested beyond that. She scowled at herself and looked at the plate of cookies. She should take them home. Should.
