Through the water of the small sea, Triton swam, the hue the same as his own. United with his love, the islander could not attain further friendship with peace.
The particular body he was now beneath mimicked that of the true sea. Mainlanders did indeed have an unpredicted skill of recreating the aquatic conditions with which he was well acquainted. At its bottom, the stone-like vegetation that Poseidon had painted with various colors, known as coral, was spread throughout the earth that peaked through from beneath the sand. A taste rather familiar to his tongue was the salt that hung amidst the waters, and, as if each grain had been counted with flawless precision, the content of it within the pool did not diverge from that of his home waters.
Adrift in the liquid, Triton suddenly felt a presence greet his lower limb. Haste was certainly not with him before, but surely it was in this moment. He swiftly swam to make way for whatever creature meant to pass. The presence, however, joined him on his flight, clearly unaware of his intention to begone from it. The islander examined his legs, yet no creature was found. With perplexity, Triton made his way to the shores to investigate.
Though the sensation of a lively body on his leg followed him to the sand, it left him as he stood. With a turn of his blue scaled body, Triton discovered a little reptilian friend, with eyes and skin the same as the islander's own in hue.
"Why, greetings little one!" he exclaimed proudly. To join the creature in its life of little stature, he humbled himself to one knee as he gazed upon it. It gazed at him in return, with eyes that spoke of sadness and forlornness.
"Do not be downcast so, little creature! Do tell, where doth your family reside?"
Without word, to no surprise of Triton's, the only response offered was a single blink of its eyes.
"Join me, my little blue friend," the islander offered as his hand lay on the sand, outstretched. "We shall find your fellow iguanas."
The spined-back comrade accepted, though hope was far from its meager crimson eyes.
After it perched within his hair, Triton bounded into the waters in search for those from which the scaly pet became.
The sun of day had fallen from the position it held at the commencement of the search, and at the conclusion of the quest no others were found. Truly, it seemed that the little one was alone amidst the waters, and the blue-scaled man was the nearest to the appearance of its mother and father.
Triton emerged from the waters and rested on the sand of the shore, his legs crossed where he sat. "Well, little sea lizard, it seems as though I was mistaken," he began as it crawled down from his hair and onto the earth in front of him. "But, fret not; I shall be your caretaker, so long as you do not protest..."
The creature, yet again, only replied with a blink.
"Grand. Now, what am I to name you?" Triton queried himself as well as the reptile. While it awaited such an answer, the iguana curled its body to make its bed, the side of his leg, more pleasing to his bodily need for comfort.
Moments passed before Triton swung his fist upon the ground and shouted "I KNOW!"
The little reptile nearly flew from his scaley nest, but it held with tight grasp onto the blue flesh. With eyes widened its breath was quite hastened.
"I shall call you Oceanus! For I will raise you to be a Titan of the waters, and from you shall spring forth fresh waters for my soul." At the commencement of his great declaration, he offered his new friend his hand as a platform, and it accepted with little thought. Lifting Oceanus to the level at which Triton's face resided, he asked him, "Do you accept such a title?"
It tilted its head slightly and licked its lip. "Then Oceanus it shall be!!!"
