Sugar sat up, a scream escaping her lips. Looking around she saw it wasn't there. No one was. She let out a sigh, relieved. It was just a dream after all. What had happened? A nightmare. One that seemed so real, but now that she try to recall it, her memory misted over. As if her mind was attempting to protect her from it. Sugar closed her eyes and rubbed her hands over her face. Her fingers stung. Something wasn't right there. She dropped her hands and looked them over. Small cuts covered her hands and her lower forearms. She lowered her arms to her legs and looked around her once more.
What was this place?
The room was unfamiliar. She had definitely never been there. Not that she could remember anyway. She lie on a bed with dark red and black blankets. There was a table beside her with a light and a glass of water. On the other side of the room, a large wooden door. Sugar slowly stood from the bed and made her way over. The floor was covered by a thick carpet, smooth and warm to the touch. She tried for the knob only to find it locked. What was the last thing she remembered? She was at the school with a few others. Students. Yes, they were students. They were asking for directions for-- something. They were lost. Yes, that's right. They were new students and were lost. That felt like an eternity ago. Was it not only a few months at most?
What was going on?
How had she come to this place? Who had laid her in this bed and locked the door behind them? Sugar took another look about her, searching for another way out. Spotting a window, she made her way to it and drew back the floor length curtains. Woodlands. Trees and shrubs. A few animals skittering about. The sound of a bird song drifting in through the frame. The sound of a key being forced into a lock grabs her attention and she whips around. The latch is pulled and the door slowly drifts open. A dark figure entered the room holding something sleek and silver. A KNIFE?! They meant to kill her. Sugar backed up against the window, pressing her small frame against it. The figure came closer but stopped at the foot of the bed and put the knife down.
"Ah, you are awake. How do you feel?" The voice was obviously male, but seemed genuinely interested in her wellbeing.
"I am well." Came Sugar's tentative voice.
"I have brought you food. You do look famished, my dear." The voice crooned. Sugar took another look at the knife only to realize it was a plate of food upon a silvery platter.
"I'm not hungry." Her stomach immediately and loudly complained.
The man chuckled as he said, "It would seem your stomach feels otherwise. Come now, do eat something. I promise I've not poisoned anything." Sugar took small steps back to the bed and lifted a bite to her lips. Her mouth watered and she could hardly contain herself enough to eat calmly.
"Why did you lock me in here."
"Why, I have not locked you in here. But i did give the order." The man nodded. "I didn't want you to run off before we could assure you were well."
"How did I get here?"
"Ah, another good question. You were unconscious on the path. We could not just leave you there. We had to assure your wellbeing, my dear."
"Where am I?"
"You are in the very capable hands of my Doctor and Steward, Aragog. I am the lord of this manor and estate, Nemoil. Count Jerard Nemoil, at your service my dear." Another figure came in the room and reached to turn on a light, his face worn with age. Once the room was well lit, Sugar was able to see the Count's face; a young handsome man with dark wavy hair that was neatly half pulled and gathered at the back of his head while some hair was left to fall over his shoulders like a waterfall at midnight. His eyes glittered with a bright amber. His lips pulled into a half smile.
