His Castles have been finished and the defenses of Aurora and its wall have been tested and stand firm. There was still much for him to do, so much loomed on the horizon and there was little time to do it all. He had made a promise to his enemies and the other leaders of the lands that used to be North America to rip the castle of the Conqueror right out of the sky. And it was a promise he intended to keep. But such a thing would mean he needed to take a long journey, far from home and one where he may not come back from. He could not leave his home without a ruler in his absence. Bailey Blake was to become Bailey Oleander and be his Queen, the soon to be Mother of his children.
He was not the best at expressing his emotions, he knew that, and when it came to Bailey they were complicated. He cared about her, more than he did about most people on a personal level. And it wasn't just because she had his children growing inside of her. But he couldn't imagine how much he was going to love them when they were finally here. Something that he'd always wanted and feared he'd never have. The kids were not even born yet and they filled him with a yearning to live that he'd never known before. Sometimes it felt like his heart would burst from longing and excitement. She gave him something he'd never expected to be able to have, a chance to be a Father, like the one he never had. But he also could not forget how when he was at his lowest point she had turned her back on him. Though everyone did with only a handful of exceptions. He didn't blame her for it. All of his people turned their back on him twice. He didn't blame them either, but it was something he could never forget. Brill, Sai, and Diana had stayed with him, but there was no telling how long that would have lasted either. In the end, he knew he was disposable, a tool to serve a function and that the only one who would ever be with him every step of the way was the monster the rumbled deep within his heart.
Theirs was a bond that could not be broken, one that was forged by he couldn't even say by what. Both enemy and ally Blake could say the Beast is what shaped him more than anything else, but he refused to let it define him. He would try to take what happiness he could within his duties and the life he now found himself in. Beatrice always told him that he was too hard on himself, that he deserved this and to let himself be happy. Dante, on the other hand, didn't say anything. He never did. Dante always just watched and judged silently. He'd always felt closest to Dante, even though he was the part of himself he kept within the most. The pieces of his fractured soul that gave him guidance. A constant reminder of how broken he was at his core, but also a testament of how even a broken blade like him could have uses. They were the other part that would never abandon him, a counterweight to the Beast within.
There had been a lot of talk on how this wedding was going to be set up, and a lot of give and take. Some things Blake gave in on. It would be held in the massive courtyard of the Palace. The Wealth of Aurora on display, as well as it's military might with soldiers having a presence both as security and as a statement of their culture. A place of honor. But Blake had held firm to many of his own requirements. The ceremony was going to be performed by the oldest surviving member of 63, a woman named Sasheen. Their guests would also not be separated. He had come from nothing and he would not divide his wedding by status and such constructs. This was a time to celebrate and while he conceded and sent invitations to dignitaries of other territories he refused to treat his own people as second class citizens. And so nobility and commoner would be mixed and forced to intermingle.
Blake was dressed in traditional robes of his people, fitted and stylized in bright colors for the festivities. Within the sash on his belt however was a plain knife, one without decoration or distinguishing marks. But it was his first blade, and one of his most treasured possessions. Blake awaited on the platform high above the crowd waiting for Bailey to be brought down by her Father, or Step Father in her specific case. He found himself struggling for breath as he watched her approach, she looked radiant, and to think that this day was finally here, after waiting so long, and with so much preparation. It was the first day of the rest of his life and today was the first day that he could imagine that could include more than service.
When she was before him they would link hands looking at each other as Sasheen began talking to the couple and the crowd about the meaning of marriage and community. About what it means to bind ones life and soul together willingly. Highlighting how the couple, the First King and Queen of Aurora shall serve as a beacon to light their way into the future. And eventually it came time for the vows.
Before Blake even started Beatrice who was hovering by the edge of the stage out of the way was already crying and dabbing her tears away with a handkerchief, and while the others were not manifested at the moment he could feel them within his heart as well.
"Bailey, I vow to do everything I can to make every day for you and our children better than the last. To give you cause to smile and never cry. I vow to bleed and take any punishment to see that you never need fear for your safety. I vow to share all of what makes me who I am with you, the good and the bad in the hopes that together we can become stronger than we are apart. I stand here because I want to be more than one mind with you, I wish to be one life, one dream, and one soul intertwined until our bones fade to dust from the passage of time."
Drawing his blade he drew it across his palm, letting his blood bubble forth as the beast howled and gnashed it's teeth. But he was ready for the beast within, and he fortified his spirit to keep it within as he let the blood drip to the ground waiting for Bailey to do the same and take his. It was now or never.
"My blood is your blood. My line is your line. Now and forever, I offer everything I have and everything I am."
