Fighting Information
Fighting Style: Kohei (Great Wall)
Years Practiced: 11 Years
Description of style: Kohei is a fairly unknown and rare style of fighting. It is very simple to understand, yet takes a long time to master. It's basic idea is to never let a battle progress beyond the third phase. What this means is that when an opponent attacks, one immediately blocks and counters the attack. It is an idea that is explored solidly through many other martial arts, but this is in-turn the only idea that is inside Kohei.
Stance: Kohei in it's simplicity posesses only one stance. It is very low to the ground. One bends his opposite-leading (left for right lead, right for left lead) leg and outstretches his leg behind him, keeping the only space between him and the ground the length of his shin. He turns his body slightly to show the side of himself, and only a small bit of his chest to the opponent. The leg that leads is the same side of the leading arm, which exposes one's forearm in-front of himself with arm bent at about a 70 degree angle. The hand should be open and in-front of the practitioner's face. The opposite hand is also and open palm, resting maybe three inches in-front of one's chest with elbow bent and pointing in the direction of one's back leg.
Techniques: As said, Kohei is very simple, as well as very defensive. It posesses, in turn, only three starts for it's techniques. Deflect, flow, and grab. For Example: If one comes around with a right hook towards your head, one tenses his leading leg and turns on that foot, using the lead hand in a small arc to throw the attacker off balance. When that has been completed, one uses their other hand to send a straight palm strike towards the back-rib area, both striking as well as pushing the opponent away, avoiding an extended conflict. That would be a flow maneuver. If one was to send a hook toward's a Kohei user's chest, he would use the leading hand to push that from it's course, sending the other into the exposed ribs. That would be a deflection. If one were to exploit the lack of kicking ability that a Kohei user has and go for say a low straight kick towards one's leading leg, then the leading hand would be used to grab the exposed ankle as the kick came forward, forcing one's leg to the ground, and a follow up strike being placed into the attacker's held ankle. That would be a grab.
Strengths: Kohei is an almost absolute defence. One would need to be quite tricky as well as very fast in order to penetrate it's forces, which is not entirely impossible, but is, as history would have it, a rare occurance. The styles is fast, allowing for very little time for both one to think, as well as for one to use any combo or such. Also, Kohei brings with it a good sense of power, which is never a bad thing.
Weaknesses: Kohei is a stand-alone kind of style in it's purest form. It's fast, which makes it good against one or two opponents, but any more will most likely result in an overload. There is a serious lack of kicking in the style, which can result in range problems under the proper circumstances. Kohei is proper to be used quickly. A match will most likely need to be finished quickly, for the strain on one's leading leg could become severe if a match were to in-fact last for anything longer than five minutes.
History Information
History: Nero was born into the Merric family 14 years ago. He was literally born on the ocean, his mother going into labor right on his father's ship. From this time, he was captured by the spirit of the sea, the gentle swaying and clear blues bound to keep his soul. Or so his father so poetically put it. He was really a true Merric.
He himself led a somewhat uneventful life. There was always excitement, yet everything kept to it's own sort of flow of things. Of course, that was in some way expected when one spent every second day on a boat.
Eventually, however, tragedy struck in an odd form for the family. Nero's mother was diagnosed with a tumor in her brain. Of course, Nero begin only two at the time had no idea wha this was, but when his mother slept her eternal slumber only two weeks after the diagnosis, the boy became a bit of a handful. Although it is rare to be admitted, the father had no clue as to what to do. There seemed very few options, really. He could not stand to send the young child to comewhere like military camp. He was simply too young. He needed a vent for all of that unexplained anger. Which brought him to the martial arts.
Nero's father himself taught the boy the ways of Kohei, something many did not know the man posessed skills in. For two years all that was taught was striking. The boy had "Natural talent" as many would have called it. He was very precise, even when it was only a simple palm strike. He always made sure to keep his arm bent where it was supposed to be. To hit in the correct spot. Everything had to be right on the dot.
At the age of five, Nero was taught the other parts of Kohei. The stance. The third move. Everything. By the time he was thirteen, he seemed to be a true master.
Training from the turn of Nero's fourteenth birthday lessened, school beginning to become something more... important. As he entered high school, he entered the time of his life in which his future plans had to be made. It seemed that less practice and more studies were needed. Even so, though, Nero still makes sure to practice at least an hour a day. Just so he doesn't get rusty.
