When the light's went out Ireland was already starting to deal with children born with horns. These horns were not bone, but grew and had some form of feeling like bone. These horns were made of some form of iron, and odd gem like properties. Not much research could go into it however as war and panic took over the whole of Ireland. Their government being wiped out the first night leaving them without leadership and no contact from the outside world. Storms kept them on their island and many different factions rose from gangs and terrorist organizations. Even the church took up arms.
It was discovered that the people born with the horns were especially strong Qi users, attuned to the elements like some, but the raw power they could muster exceeded anything other's could do. Eventually the horns became a sign of some mythical birth, giving the people with horns more right to lead than others. Not exactly a sign of nobility, but a sign of being special, Luck of the Irish they say is now Luck of Iron/Iarainn.
The War of Iron Clans as it was referred to by the people of the Iron Land cost the land dearly. Life had come to the brink of extinction on the island, driving it from four million down to a few thousand. That's when the foreigner arrived in ships that had barely withstood the storms. His forces were strange and people were not accustomed to fighting them and what they could do. The Conqueror himself made an example of anyone who came against him, offering the people what the Iron Lords could not. True safety, normality, peace. The flocked to him and in one final battle his forces struck down the Iron Clans like they were nothing. Taking away whatever power they had with the people and using the power of the land constructed a massive Castle that could fly as a testament to what the people of the Iron Land could do if theyw orked together.
