It was hard to not roll his eyes at the mention of Ares and thrones. Wannabe Gods and wannabee Kings.

"Why don't you know? You're a God, does that not come with responsibilities? Do you just do what you do to get your power and then run off to go do whatever whim strikes your fancy?"

[Cain Rhamos]

"I haven't had much practice yet, man!"

"I'M STILL WORKING ON IT!"

"So then you were not ready to be a God? I mean, one would think you would know what you should do before you try to become one. And certainly after succeeding."

He frowned. This just reaffirmed everything he remembered hearing and growing up and distant memories from even earlier.

"What do you stand for? What's important to you? What do you believe in?"

[Cain Rhamos]

"No? You take the trial when you're ready, then you learn about what it means."

Cain scowls.

"What kind of questions are those? I stand for protecting people, I'm gonna be the greatest hero in the world."

[Cillian McWolfe]

"Those should be the questions you answer before you become a God. It doesn't strike you as odd that you don't know what it entails until you succeed or fail?"

Cillian shook his head and frowned.

"The greatest hero in the world, who feeds off of people's terror and despair? Doesn't that sound more like a villain?"

[Cain Rhamos]

"Maybe it's secret for a reason."

Cain shrugs. He has a lot of faith.

"Fighting generally leads to terror and dread. It's a natural part of life. It's all about how you use it."

Giggity.

"Not with how I fight."

But he didn't try to inspire terror or dread either.

"I doubt it."

Cain snorts.

"You must've never fought for something truly important, then."

[Cillian McWolfe]

"Freedom and independence. The right for my people to live peaceful honest lives. To be free of enslavement and to keep our bodies as they are. Not what someone would deem to be optimized."

He shrugged.

"Those things were all important to me though."

[Cain Rhamos]

"And did you fight anyone to death over those?"

[Cillian McWolfe]

"Yes. I have unfortunately had to take lives. That is part of the nature of war."

[Cain Rhamos]

"And you're saying not one of them was terrified at the thought of losing their lives? Dreaded the fact that they wouldn't see another day?"

He tilts his head.

"Not even for a split second?"

[Cillian McWolfe]

"I'm sure they did. As I too have felt. But none of us on those battlefields were trying to become manifestations of those emotions. None of us sought to make it a core part of who we are. People feel all kinds of emotions, but I know where I am from we strive to promote the light, truth, justice, honor. To inspire hope."

[Cain Rhamos]

"But it's still a core part of battle."

Cain shrugs.

"Which happens regardless. So if I can use that natural part of life to help others, why wouldn't I?"

"Do you think you can consume, become, and embody terror and dread and not be changed by it on a fundamental level?"
