"And so your mother came to me and said... "Aphrodite heard my song and guided my gaze as you arrived. Will you share this dance with me on this night most festive?" And I though she was... Well in a term she won't kill me for instead of what I actually thought... She was stunning. So I said why not and she gave me a place to sleep and I never left." Rhona's dad in his blonde hair, scruffy face, and broad physique smiled back at the memory.
"You're dodging the question again Dad." A young Rhona barely ten was frustrated to boot. The younger Rhona was naive, arrogant, a bit spoiled and she just wanted to stole the fire and brimstone in her"I asked not how you and Mom met but why I don't see your family here amongst Mother's." She rolled her eyes and sighed.
He remained silent as she pouted. He had a realization and an understanding of how she might want to know of her other half. With a pondering gaze into the sea of his wife's family and the only two legitimate Halls in the room.
"We are not a close knit kind of Family Rhona. You may go another life time never meeting another Hall or you can find us in various points in our adventures and lives. Most of us just disperse... Some are famous and some are infamous. Some remain in one place while others don't. The truth is I don't know much about our blood relations." He looked at her expecting the disappointment in her gaze. And he got exactly that. It was hard not knowing about one's birth. This blood that worships gods and the other that is unknown can leave one unprepared and doubtful.
Not much he could do about that though. Watching Rhona walk off to think about what she was just told he gave a heavy sigh. But he let her be...
As Rhona herself walked off there wasn't much to go around thinking about. To be honest she couldn't think of why she wanted to know about the Hall family so bad. It just felt like there was something she should know...
When walked down the street she wore her jacket and yet there was steam coming from her shoulders and the top of her head. She wanted the cold air to cool her for once and it was doing a bang up job as she kept fuming on her Fathers inconsideration.
"S-stop m-moving a m-m-moment." The voice was incredibly close and startled her and when she turned and saw hands at he sides of her head she spun and sent a leg into her advancer's dick. He fell back a few feet letting out a pained grunt before the wind was was knocked from him.
She breathed as she saw him curl in the snow nursing his new and horrible ache.
"You'll regret messing with me, I'll turn you in to the authority only after I make sure you're good and tenderized." Rhona threatened.
"I meant n-no harm I've traveled all night and y-you looked incredibly warm I f-forgot myself, I am old and I don't hold warmth like I used to." He leaned against a frozen pole breathing on his hands, blue chapped lips, pale white skin. He was chilled to the bone.
"Who are you and what are you doing?" She had her stance still
The old wrinkled man looked at her with bright blue eyes, extended a shivering, stuff, cold hand for her. "I am looking for some family, I'm Harold, H-harold Hall..." He smiled wide even though his chapped lips were cracked and seemingly painful.
The next thing Rhona's parents knew was her walking through the door with this dingy stranger. She accepted his handshake and invited him to mother's party.
But the surprise on their faces was recognition of who the man was.
"We'll talk about this in a bit Rhona!" Her Mother yelled but Rhona only grinned quite proudly.
"Dad it's another Hall! Do you know him?!" She was excited.
"Yes... He's my Uncle--" He nodded.
"So... My GREAT Uncle!" She interrupted and turned to him. "Stay as long as you need to eat and warm up... I want to know about you."
"Oh... Gee kid... James" he paused to get his thoughts straight. "I'll need to talk with my nephew Rhona."
That disappointed her greatly... more secrets. Of which before she could stop them her mother was in her face giving Rhona a hard stare.
After taking her to her bedroom there was a long discussion about bringing strangers home and about going behind her and father's back. But Rhona rolled her eyes and took the scolding. Though her Mother had a point with allowing him into their home without knowing him she had gotten ahead and... Forgotten herself. Admitting that she would never do so.
When all had diffused Rhona and Mother had seen Father and Great Uncle Harold chatting with the rest of the family happily and warm.
Now he couldn't answer any of Rhona's questions. As it turns out Dad was right the Halls really didn't know much about each other but there was still something she was told she needed to find out for herself. And while that angered her to the point she was steaming again on second of her Great Uncle putting his hands near her warmth and making fun of her lit up her and the room. It was a fun Christmas with a pleasant surprise. A small gift of meeting one other Hall she began to cherish those traits she discovered and allowed them to make her into the person she was.
"You saved my Christmas kid, it was fate we ran into each other if you ask me. But I have more on the road to do." Her great Uncle was wrapping himself tight with some newer and warmer clothes and a plump bag of left over food for the road.
"Where do you go an what do you do?" Rhona needed to know. He stole a quick glance to her Father and Rhona knew she wasn't going to get her answer. He only smiled and she dropped it saying a good bye and watching him head into the snow. She never saw him again. But it was certainly a Christmas she never forgot.
