Everyday, Kubo wished he had a real home. He wished he could live in a nice big house, with a mother, a father, a dog, and his brother of course. Yet, all he had was a dingy second-floor apartment with no father, no mother, and a no-pets rule. The only family he had was his brother. Most of the time, this wasn't a problem. Kubo's brother was cool. His friends would come over all the time, drink and party, and the leave. But all in all, that was the only good thing about it. The parties. And sometimes, Kubo would get sick of them. He would trade it all tomorrow for parents who loved and cared about him, but that wasn't the case. For now, Kubo would just have to put up with it.
His brother was almost working. He was a cameraman for the local news, so he had to be there for the news at five and eleven. Sure, he was off on the weekends, but other than that, Kubo barely saw his brother. And it was always the same old conversation.
"What's for dinner?" Kubo would ask.
And every single time, Benn would say, "Just get ten dollars off my dresser and get some pizza."
It was the most talking they had done in weeks. Half the time, Kubo would've already eaten and just asked his brother about dinner so he could say something. He just wished his brother would be around more....

It was evening and she was baking. Something she did in her spare time when she was bored. Something she did to keep her father happy who had a very large sweet tooth. She stood in the kitchen still dressed from the day. Today of course had been a very hectic day. She had just moved in.
After her mother sent her off to live with her father while she traveled with her new husband she had to change her life. Moving into a small apartment where her room was the size of a closet and her father was gone most of the time. He had never really gotten over her mother but that didn't mean he didn't know how to have a good time. He worked until he was worn and then spent the nights in bars and clubs.
"One cup of sugar." she said softly to herself her voice not heard by anyone as she was home alone as usual.
She turned to the pantry and pulled out the container that held the granulated sugar. She opened it and sure enough. Insted of sugar it was Ace's candy stash. She rolled her eyes and sighed placing it back and leaned against the counter. Everything aside from the sugar had already been mixed so it would be a waist now to not use the ingrediants. She chewed on her lower lip nervously and decided to ask someone.
Grabbing her measuring cup she took a deep breath. This was bold very bold for the young shy girl. She opened the door and looked both ways. She wore her short plaid skirt and a soft pink sweater that hung off her shoulders leaving them bare. Her brown hair hung loose around her as barefoot she stepped across the hallway and knocked on the door.
When the door opened a blush would form on her face. Turning her pale cheeks a soft pink color as she cast her hazel eyes down to the floor.
"Pardon, but would you have any sugar, I could borrow?" she asked softly her heart hammering against her ribs her voice very soft and sweet as she nervously tucked her hair behind her ears. The measuring cup still in hand.

Another late night home with nothing to do. It was getting dark outside and Kubo wondered why he wasn't outside with something to do. He wasn't the kind of person that would just sit around and do nothing. But yet, here he was. Sitting in his underwear and a plain white t-shirt, surfing through the TV channels. Go figure, there wasn't anything good on.
Kubo got up to get himself a glass of water when he heard a knocking at the door. Running back towars the door, he was about to open it when he realized he was only wearing boxers. He looked through the peephole in the door to see who it was. It was a teenage girl, about his age, and very pretty.
"Hold on just a second," he yelled, hoping she would hear him. He ran back into his bedroom and picked up a pair of blue jeans that he had worn the day before. Zipping them up, he ran back towards the door, unlocked it, and opened it.
The young girl seemed to be staring at the floor, as if embarassed she was there. Yet all she wanted was a cup of sugar.
"Sure," he replied. "You can borrow some sugar, I've just got to find it first. Would you like to come in for a second?"
Kubo left the door open for her, as he walked back towards the kitchen to find where Benn had put the sugar.

A voice called from the door beyond to have her wait a moment. She didn't mind at all as long as she could get some sugar it really didn't matter. Even if they didn't have any she could always go to the next apartment and get some from there. But she hoped that this apartment could at least help her out.
When the door opened her eyes lifted slightly to take in the boy that stood in front of her. He was very cute with brown hair and a thin physique. She blushed deeply and let her eyes roll back down to the floor. He spoke and though he might not see it she smiled slightly.
Stepping into the apartment she lifted her head and took in the surroundings with her hazel eyes. It was rather nice though it lacked that woman's touch. Though there was not a thing wrong with that it was just obvious at least to her anyway. She walked with the boy to the kitchen closing the door behind her as she felt it was rude to do otherwise.
"Thank you very much. I was baking when I realized I didn't have any sugar. And I was hoping you would. So I'll have to repay you some how." she said in her soft sweet yet shy voice.
She tried to keep her eyes off the boy as he was very nice so far but she didn't want to stare. She thought that was rude and that was the last thing she wanted to come off as. She stood in the kitchen and leaned against the wall slightly both hands wrapped around the plastic measuring cup in her hand. She watched the boy as he searched for the sugar. Her eyes following him but not staring. Merely watching.

Where did Benn put that sugar? Kubo asked himself this question as he searched the cabinets. There was no sign of it anywhere. But then he remebered one last place to check. He opened up the cabinet under the sink, and sure enough, there was the sugar.
He brought it over to the girl and poured some of it in her cup. She was a very pretty girl. Her light brown hair caught Kubo as particularly attractive. He put the sugar back and walked over to the girl.
"So what's your name anyways?" he asked. "It's not every day I hand out cups of sugar to total strangers. I'm Kubo by the way. But friends call me...well, they call me Kubo too. That's besides the point though." Kubo stuck his hand out, waiting for the girl to shake it. Judging by the looks of her though, any hand shake she delivered wouldn't be very powerful.

She watched the boy look through all the cabinets and the pantry for his sugar. She smiled softly. It was obvious he didn't cook or bake much and she wondered silently when was the last time he had eaten a home cooked meal.
The sugar was soon found and under the sink no less. She chuckled to herself at how weird a place that was for them to put it. That was usually where chemical and house cleaning materials went not baking goods. However, she said nothing as he filled her measuring cup with the white sugar.
"Thank you, I am very grateful for your help." she said with a soft smile as her hazel eyes met his gaze.
He began to speak asking her name and telling her his. With a funny sort of comment she chuckled slightly her laugh was soft and it made her eyes sparkle just slightly with an inner light.
"My name is Bella." she said as she accepted his hand grasping it a bit harder than he might have thought possible her arm now showing that she was indeed toned.
"It is a pleasure to meet you." she said with a brighter smile now as she slowly took her hand back away from him. "Do you like cookies by chance?" she asked looking up into his gaze and blushing lightly.

So the new girl's name was Bella. What a beautiful name. It had been the name of Kubo's grandmother. He never knew her, but from stories he had heard, she was a wonderful person. Hopefully, the girl standing in front of him was the same way.
She seemed very shy, which was cute. Bella kept staring at her feet and blushing. Kubo found it attractive. Bella was just an all around good looking person. Everything from her soft brown hair, to her delicate looking hands. Kubo could tell by her body she liked to dance. There was an aspect to her figure that hinted it. Either that, or she liked gymnastics.
"Well, it's very nice to meet you too, Bella," Kobu said as he kissed her hand. "And yes. I love cookies. But then again, what sane person doesn't like cookies? If I had any baking skills at all, there would definately be a steaming plate of cookies in that kitchen right now. Why do you ask?"

Bella chuckled. It was true most people did like cookies and it just made her smile as she tucked a locke of her hair behind her ear while she looked at the boy beside her. She still leaned against his wall. Standing herself up right she nodded.
"Well, thing is, I was in the middle of baking across the hall. And since you were kind enough to give me sugar I would like you to come have some cookies." she said with a soft smile.
Her eyes immediatly traveled back down to the floor in her nervousness. She twisted some of her hair around her finger as she waited.
"If you want you could come over before they bake or I could just bring them over after I'm finished. I could even use your oven if you wanted. I .. want to thank you properly." she said in her soft and sweet voice.
Her hazel eyes traveled up to his eyes once more as she looked at him rather shyly.

It seemed the more Kubo and Bella talked, the less shy she became. Kubo had opened up and shared his true peronality, and now Bella was beginning to do the same. She looked up at him and they locked eyes. This time, it was Kubo's turn to blush. He didn't blush very much, but there was something about right now that made him do so.
So she wanted to thank him with cookies. That evened out pretty good. A cup of sugar for a couple cookies. And since it was Kubo's sugar in the cookies, it did make them partially his....
"Sure," he said. "I'd love to have some cookies. Why don't you give me a minute to get dressed properly and maybe I can meet you over at your apartment. You live just right across the hall right?"
Kubo hadn't seen the girl around before, so it was possible that she was new around here. Either that, or they just never happened to see each other. But if she had come all the way here asking to borrow some sugar, it was likely that she lived in a nearby apartment.

Did he blush? His own blush made one cross her features as well her pale cheeks colored by the red. She dropped her hand back down to her side and tugged on the hem of her skirt yet another sign of her nerves. He began to speak and she listened.
"That sounds great." she said softly. "I do live just across the hall." she smiled very weakly.
She pushed herself off the wall and nervously tucked her hair behind her ears with one hand. She was being bold. Very bold and that really wasn't her. She silently wondered why but she figured that it must have something to do with the rather cute guy standing in front of her.
"Just come in, when ever you are ready." She looked at him one last time and walked past him. She walked with grace that was only something dancers seemed to be able to manage. The natural sway of her hips and the muscles moving beneath the pale skin of her legs. She opened the door and crossed the hall.
Once back inside her apartment she leaned against the door for a moment as if trying to collect herself once again. She went back into the kitchen and added the sugar to the mixture of butter and other things. Bella took one look around the sparkling clean and nicely decorated apartment before she turned on the electric mixer and began blending.
The apartment was very classic. Small two seater beige couch sat in front of a rather large tv for her father's sports events. A rug protected their feet from the cold floor in the winter. A coffee table of natural wood sat in front of the couch sports magazines lay scattered on it. A small dinette set sat behind the couch a table with four chairs and a glass top. A small desk was propped up against a wall with a rather up to date computer and a stereo.
She stood in the kitchen blending and waiting for her company to arrive. She was very nervous but at least with the mixing her shaking hands would not be noticed.

Kubo made his way out of his apartment and into Bella's. She had left the door open for him, so it was easy enough to tell which was hers. After locking his own door and taking his key, he walked over to hers and stepped inside.
It was a particularly clean apartment. Almost the exact opposite of his own. Everything was in it's own place and it all seemed to spakle as if it had just been cleaned. He saw Bella over at the kitchen counter, mixing together to ingrediants to make the cookies. It was a little odd she asked him to come over so early. The cookies wouldn't be ready for a while now.
He walked over to the kitchen and stood across the counter from Bella. He didn't want to make her do all the work. Besides, it was his sugar. He had a right to do as he wished with it! And what he wanted to do was help.
"Is there anything I can do to help you?" he yelled, as to be heard over the sound of the mixers.

The sugar was mixing in nicely and though she didn't hear her neighbor come in she felt his presence and looked up for a moment. An intense blush crossed her features as quickly her head moved back to the substance in her mixing bowl. He came into her kitchen and leaned against the counter.
Right as he began to yell she shut off the mixer and she winced at how loud he was. She chuckled and blushed deep red as she tucked her hair behind her ears. She pulled the mixer out of the dough and ejected the beaters. Handing one to him with a smile she scooped the other off with a spoon returning the excess to the bowl.
"You can eat the dough on that if you like." she offered in her shy quiet voice as she turned to a cabinet and pulled out a pan. Turning back around she reached past him and preheated the stove. Moving to the pantry she grabbed the butter spray and covered the pan.
It was then that she moved to the counter and began placing little balls of dough on the sheet. For a moment she didn't say anything just concentrated on her work. But it wasn't because she was rude but more because she was nervous.
"So... Kubo, tell me a bit .. about you." she said very shyly as she looked up but quickly looked back down another blush on her face. Why did he make her blush so much?

Kubo finally realized he had been yelling, but too late. He must've looked like an idiot when she turned the blender off. He only meant to yell to be heard over the noise, and yet once the noise was gone, he was still yelling.
He was embarassed and for good reason. Luckily though, Bella decided to change the subject.
"So... Kubo, tell me a bit .. about you."
She was blushing again. Kubo had never known anyone who blushed as much as she did. In the short time he had known her, all of about ten minutes, she had blushed more than at least twenty times.
"There's not much to me, actually," he said. "I mean, there is, but it's all the same thing. I surf, I skate, and I party. That's what any typical California kid my age does. Other than that, I live with my bro. Both my parents died a couple years ago." Saying that made Kubo fight back tears. He didn't show his sorrow, but it was eating it up on the inside. Clearing his throat, he talked some more. "What about you? I'm guessing you don't live here by yourself and make cookies all day, do ya?"

Bella began making small balls of dough and placing them gently and spread out along the cookie sheet. She listened as Kubo spoke and nodded when appropriate. She was actually enjoying having someone over that could talk to her and enjoy, so she hoped, her own company.
She couldn't help but chuckle at the question. Because it was both true and false really. She nodded and slid the first pan into the oven setting the timer before she got ready to answer.
"As for me, I live with my father. My mother is getting remaried and sent me here to live with him." she began as she leaned against the counter looking over at Kubo.
"He works the night shift as a police officer for the LAPD. So I don't see him often, except really early in the morning if I get up. He isn't home a lot so I guess in a way I do live by myself. And I bake a lot to keep my father fed, because he has a sweet tooth bigger than the state of California." she chuckled and blushed slightly at the joke.
"I read, and I dance. I do ballet and broadway dancing so that takes up a little time. I really like doing active things. Like swimming and running. I like horseback riding and going out dancing at clubs and stuff." she said thinking about her life for a bit. She turned her attention back to Kubo but then went about preparing the next cookie sheet for the oven.
"Must be great having a brother though, I'm an only child so far so I kinda get lonely I guess. Do you both get along?" she asked.
