An old hatchback Honda Civic, a case of Smirnoff Green Apple, a momento, the beach and a sunset---yup. This was a night to unwind...not like he really needed much reason to, to most people. But when you take a nap at home and suddenly wake up after a flashback from a rough fight, and when fighting is most of what you know, it tends to rattle the mind.
He didn't need much---Kevin grabbed his glasses, a basic black hoodie, some red basketball shorts and a pair of black and red Nike Dunks...wiiith something he pulled from his boxes of old crap.
The fight he remembered was one of his very first at 552---against Lancer. He remembered the platinum-haired upperclassman well, as well as the embarassment he suffered in front of...
Ugh. Linda. The memories of the girl from high school were bittersweet now, but back then he was proud that he'd fought for her. If he hadn't, he would have missed the opportunity to impress one of the biggest gangs at the time...
Cue the momento in question. As Kevin would pull the first of a case of Smirnoff that he had someone buy for him, he pulled from his pocket a red bandana with the initials R.O.B. stitched in. Reign of Blood...those days were seen with some degree of regret, but with every decision he wished he could change, Kevin saw an experience that he actually was grateful for.
Kevin sat upon the hood of his car, sipping at the weak drink as he thought on the good times---"Zero and Vague." The three were tight as rubber; it was sad that they drifted. Tsubame was missed out of her just being cool in her own way. Now that he thought of it, there were plenty people he was reminded of; few of them would probably remember him now though, he thought. But that was when it hit him that if no one else cared, one person might...her name echoed in his mind and was uttered simultaneously as the setting sun reflected in normally onyx, now hazel eyes...
"...Kyr."

A pair of pink converse padded against the sidewalk as she'd walk, her blue eyes scanning the windows of all the little shops and displays.
She glanced at her phone now as it vibrated. She'd smile softly, her father's number flashing as she'd flip it open. She'd reply to him and continue on with her journey through the shopping center.
He had only asked for a few hours, but Kyr had given him the whole day. He'd been very kind to her all this time, even when she didn't deserve his kindness. He'd been so understanding after her accident... She halted suddenly as the sudden thought came rushing into her mind.
She looked down, her right hand raising to brush a few strands of hair from her face. And if time allowed it, the young girl would have dwelled upon her horrible memories.
"Watch where you're going!!!"
A man snapped at her as he'd almost ran into her now as he exited a shop.
"Oh...I'm sorry."
She sighed, letting her hands dig into the depths of her pockets of her jean shorts before continuing down the sidewalk.
She kept to herself mostly, she'd made no friends since her journey to this new place. She didn't mind. Ya, she was lonely... but she needed to recover. And with no friends, she had all the time in the world to focus on herself.
She shook her head now, letting her shoes carry her down the road. Using her left hand to zip up her black jacket.
She needed to breathe.
It was too crowded here in the city, she needed an escape.
~~~~~~~~~
She'd left her shoes by the shore, and now she was letting her bare feet take delicate steps on the wet sand of the beach. Letting the waves gently tickle her toes as she almost skipped to her own beat.
She felt the wind on her skin, something she hadn't felt in a long time. She closed her eyes, taking in the fresh air, breathing it deep within her lungs.
She'd promise herself.
No more bullshit.
Today was a new day.
She'd left 552 behind, and all the horrible memories.
"You can do this..."
She spoke to herself now, the insecure teen whispered to herself.
She wouldn't let her failures get to her. She had failed, only to learn from her mistakes.
"...I can do this."
The very name struck a chord in him, the whole idea of her being having such a grip on Kevin's psyche that she could be associated with almost anything positive in his high school years. A friend indeed, she was...yet time and circumstances allowed them to slip away also. When he left 552, he considered the impact of those whom he'd met, though that thought only lasted for a fleeting moment...
Kyr, on the other hand, was genuinely missed. He never understood why the two stuck together so well despite all the hell, even though they eventually went their separate ways...at the time Kevin was struggling with coca and his own mental problems. Kyr had issues with her boyfriend, and was teen pregnant. Bang. Just before he left 552, he heard she miscarried; he'd never let her know it, but somewhere in himself...
...Kevin hated himself for letting her go through so much.
Of course, some things couldn't be prevented or stopped, but to someone who felt he owed his life to one who'd simply been a friend, Kevin couldn't grasp the concept of things being out of his control. Damn the circumstances. He should have done more...he'd look at the now empty bottle with some degree of disgust and would chuck the glass bottle straight ahead. If he ever got the chance, Kevin would apologize to her for what he fell short at and failing in his eyes.
However, if that bottle hit Kyr, Kev would have his chance...and sooner than he thought.
She needed this. Her feet in the sand, the waves gently hitting her feet as she'd stand there looking over the water. It was so calm, almost a form of meditation to her now.
She had dreaded moving, everything inside her screamed, begging her to never leave 552. She had so many friends and memories there. But it also was the cause of her pain, everything was a memory there. Everything.
Here, in this new place, with her new life. She wouldn't be bothered by memories. And that was her doctor's main concern. He had said she could relapse at any given moment, and she was unstable. Kyr almost laughed it off now.
She smiled to herself now, brushing a few strands of hair from her face as she thought about it.
She'd be safe here.
Everything would work out.
No more memories.
A sudden thunk, followed by shattering glass that now fell in sparkles around her. The young girl fell to the ground, her hands pressed against the sand.
She was still for a moment, strands of hair sprawled about the ground as she'd stir in place. She slowly lifted herself from the ground, sand sticking to her body as she'd rise.
"What...The...Fuck?" She looked at the glass that had shattered around her, and she almost instantly grew angry.
"ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!?!??!?!"
She glared about, blue eyes looking for the owner of the bottle.
Don't you love when you realize you're making a mistake RIGHT after you've done it? Kevin was in his own world when he threw the empty bottle; he finally noticed someone walking when that same bottle went whizzing at her like a molotov. The sudden explosion of glass was a tad dramatic, but he guessed that he'd put a bit of extra pepper on the throw.
Huh. Guess I still got a lil' bit of strength. Now I just need to maybe tone and build---wait, I just cracked somebody!
Kevin immediately leapt off his car in a wild dash. He said a quick prayer in the hopes that whoever he popped didn't have any scarring, and also hoped that the victim didn't happen to have a Glock on them. Though a tazer would be worse...a slow tortue. Slowwww torturrrrrre. Ze horror, ze horrorrrrr-bzzt.
Okay, but seriously. Kevin really didn't need any retaliation. Maybe a yell, some R-rated vocabulary, maybe a slap on the arm to let him know he fucked up would be understandable...but as he neared the female who was getting up, his jog slowed to a walk, then a total halt. Matter of fact, the only thing moving on Kev was his jaw, now hanging.
Please, God? Lemme be drunk and seein' shit...
What did they teach you girly?
Count to ten!
1
2
3
She was looking around wildly, blue eyes searching for the being that had pelted the bottle at her head. The thought hadn't even crossed her mind that it had been an accident. She saw in the corner of her eye, a bit of movement and it was nearing her.
Maybe she had been let out a bit too early, because she was raging pissed but then again the young girl had always had a bit of anger issues.
4
5
6
She whirled around suddenly, strands of black hair falling into her eyes as she glared at the man that was running at her. Her shoulders would rise and fall with every breath she took, anger seeping in.
7
8
9
OH FUCK THIS SHIT!!!
"I WILL FUCK YOU UP!"
She was about to charge at him as she noticed he was running at her, and she was about to defend herself now... but then the other being slowed down and soon halted.
"WHAT THE FUCK IS YOUR PRO-"
She stopped almost immediately now as she caught a full view of the man who was looking at her. She stumbled for her words, but then she realized there were none to say. Her mouth was open, as was his. She swallowed, taking a step back as the two looked at one another.
"I..."
This couldn't be... She had left those memories behind. And she had been doing so well. On a great road to recovery the doctor had said to her.
This couldn't be happening.
There was no way in hell he was standing in front of her now.
She turned on her heels and would walk the other way now. without a word the young girl had turned and went on her way.
This isn't happening.
Even as she ran towards him, obviously pissed and ready to go, Kevin couldn't will himself at all to move. Shock had completely overtaken him to the point where nothing at all was responsive. All that was remotely clicking in his brain was who was right in front of him...
...Hell, if God was bringing people around that came to mind, Kevin almost wanted to take a trip down memory lane and hopefully bring his dad back. But srsly. It finally registered that Kyr was making a wild charge at him, but by the time he even considered defending himself, she too would stop her approach; guess she figured out that there was a reunion in order as well. She tried to speak and failed; afterwards was a moment of silence that seemed to last far too long. And again, she would move before he considered doing something---by the time Kevin fixed his mouth to say anything, Kyr had turned tail and went away from him completely.
"...I swear I don't do reunions like this all the time?" He'd say with almost the highest level of unconfidence. Likely a FAIL attempt at humor, when this was anything BUT a time for jokes. But something was off...it seemed there was another element to the situation that Kevin had yet to spot. Anyone would be pissed at getting hit by a glass bottle. It seemed there was more of a fear there than anything...but it was him. What was there to be afraid of?
Kevin was definitely confused, but he had the feeling something went on that he wasn't around to help with...and it concerned him all the more. Worst part was, even though part of him told him to let it go, he knew that went against his nature. Kevin would walk behind his old friend...never let someone you care about roam far, right?
"Yo, Kyr! Wait up, I'm sorry!"
"...I swear I don't do reunions like this all the time?"
She let her bare feet carry her across the sand, blue eyes looking left and right for her shoes now as she was headed away from Kevin.
She didn't wanna look back, if she looked back she was afraid of what she'd see. She shook her head to herself now, blue eyes pressed to the floor.
"Yo, Kyr! Wait up, I'm sorry!"
She heard his voice, and she sighed for a moment. She could hear him behind her, coming near. She stopped, and tilted her head to the side so she could look over her shoulder at him.
This can't be real...
She didn't speak, her lips were pressed still against one another as she watched him closely with those blue eyes. the wind blew at her hair, letting it dance about her frame as the two stood before one another.
"...Hey."
A soft voice.
She now slowly turned to look at him.
She couldn't be that upset over the bottle. After all, it'd been...what, two years? And did she seriously think he did it on purpose? Kevin raised his shoulders ever so slightly upward, elbows bent with his hands outstretched...not like he was bold enough to actually reach out and touch the girl. It was like she didn't even wanna look in his direction...had he really fucked up that bad?
But she'd eventually stop, turn around and...damn. What's the fuckin' matter..? The expression on her face was something that Johnny Cash would write about after downing a little too much Jack Daniels and feeling lonely after. There was just some sort of depression that emanated from her and seeped through Kevin to the bone. Something...definitely wasn't right here, and yet he would try to not let it stop him from the moment---he was here, standing face to face with probably the only person that mattered to him anymore from 552. And after Kyr greeted him, Kevin stood still, trying to find something to say at this point but he had nothing. All he could do was inhale...
...and breathe out deep with a relieving sigh as he'd approach and reach around to hug the girl. It'd been far, FAR too long and there had been so much that could have gone better had she been around. But as of now, it mattered little to none as Kevin would embrace Kyr tightly, long arms holding her close, his left hand finding its way to her head. No attempts at being a groping little creeper, but he just felt that the two had been close for years; why not let her know you were glad to see her, no erection necessary?
When he stepped forward towards her she looked up, lifting her head to look at him. But before she could say much he'd lifted his arms around her, and was now embracing her. She was stiff against him at first, her body screamed to free herself from his grasp but she'd stay still.
Kevin?
She was silent, licking her lower lip as he held onto her. She soon eased into his arms, allowing her arms to slowly rest about his frame as she'd lean into him. She couldn't remember the last time she'd been this close to him. And as she tried to recall such a time she realized the two of them had never actually been this psychically close.
She didn't know what to say to him now, it had been so long. She finally would take a deep breath now before speaking into his ear.
"Thank you."
She had needed this. To feel someones touch.
Another moment that seemed to last SO much longer than it was...except for this time, he appreciated it. Hell, he almost needed the comfort. And in those moments, Kevin DID have time to reflect---this was his chance to make things right. It might, at surface, be mere coincidence that the two found themselves both in Long Beach. But as long as Kevin believed that there was a God, he'd feel in his heart of hearts that this was his chance to make amends and finally do some good for someone.
With a final deep exhale (it felt like he had held his breath for as long as he held her---he was right), Kevin would let go, albeit keeping his hands on Kyr's shoulders as he'd look in her eyes. She'd thank him; "Heh...for what? Don't tell me that bottle opened up some masochism in ya, did it?" A somewhat awkward smile to go with the equally awkward joke, but he'd try. He'd always try even if he failed...
"...Buuuut seriously. How you been, what're you doin' all the way out here?"
She laughed as he spoke, sending a few strands of black hair into her face. She brushed them away, looking at him for a moment. She wasn't exactly sure what to say now, she had so many things to say to him, but she couldn't let them slip.
"No... Heh. Thanks for the hug."
She hadn't had much physical contact, unless you count poking and prodding from doctors, being bound to a bed, and lifted from beds to wheel chairs, or dragged from room to room.
She hadn't had a hug since...
Well she couldn't remember now.
Her father loved her, and she knew that with all of her heart. But he hadn't hugged her since she was a child.
"...Buuuut seriously. How you been, what're you doin' all the way out here?"
"I've been OK."
She nodded to him, mostly trying to reassure herself in this matter.
"My dad and I moved here. Ya know, nice fresh air."
She smiled.
Kevin listened intently, smirking. "Yuuup, that's Long Beach...where the grass is green and the Crips is mean, accordin' to Snoop." A scoff from the Brazilian as he'd fold his arms over his chest, cocking his head to the right. Long Beach WAS a nice area, but he knew well enough the place was equally grimy...but then again, every city had it's relatively ugly area. He couldn't pretend that wasn't the case.
Kevin turned towards the ocean, letting the inward breeze blow at his body and toss some free strands of hair across his head; the setting sun beamed brightly into the lenses of Kevin's glasses. The evening was beautiful...to him, it fit greatly with the events that transpired. Hazel eyes slid in Kyr's direction again as a question just came to mind. Well, two of them. But he'd ask them in appropriate order:
"So what're ya doin' with your time now? I'm sure there's money to still be made as a dominatrix..?" Kevin's smile grew wildly as he'd chuckle at the memory of finding out his old friend's line of business---he knew it paid well, as wild and devious as it was. But inwardly, he hoped Kyr cut it out just for the sake of avoiding the dangers of the business of sex. Granted, Kyr was capable of handling herself but Kevin was never one to assume she didn't need his protection when he was ready.
Kevin put his hands in his pockets; easier way to hide his fingers being crossed for good luck with that answer.
Kyr smiled, laughing a bit as she shook her head. She looked up at him now, brushing a few strands of hair from her face.
"No, no. I haven't been in that scene for a long while."
She hadn't been in that line of work in a long time. And she almost laughed to herself at the thought of it. It had been fun, and dangerous. Why had she given up on it though?
She thought for a moment, and then finally nodded to herself.
Oh, yes. Xaier hadn't liked the idea of it.
she almost laughed now.
She was silent, looking up at the sky for a moment before looking at him.
"I've lost contact with all of my clients." She gave a soft shrug.
"Sorta out of my prime for it now."
She gave him a soft smile as she'd turn on her heel's to look for her shoes that lay nearby somewhere. She was silent, brushing a few strands of hair from her face.
"What about you?"
She looked at him with those blue eyes.
"You have a job?"
Out of her prime for it? Her looks, definitely not. Anything else was a maybe...either way, it was grand news for ol' Kev as he'd bubble up with more happiness. He felt so free of stress now, and it happened fast---thus was the effect of having someone he respected so much to be around.
Maybe this was God imparting something to keep Kevin sane while he was here to do what he had to do? Speaking of which...Kyr'd ask what Kevin was here for. Sure, he DEFINITELY wanted to open up about how he should still be rotting in jail by now for a crime he was innocent, but convicted of and how someone was holding that over his head to get Kevin to come to 259 and clean the school up, like he was supposed to do at 552 but got sidetracked.
But that would be too much like the convenient thing to do, right? And on top of that, he knew for a fact it'd be better not to get her in any way associated with that part of his life...he was fucking with (or being fucked by, depending on the day) the Feds, as he liked to put the general idea of who he was dealing with and they tended not to pull punches in order to get things done. No good friend would get someone drawn into such a predicament, especially if they had nothing to do with the matter.
And thus, the lie...or a very broad, somewhat exxagerated truth:
"Well...I was originally in Long Beach my senior year...finished school, stayed with my moms in San Francisco for about two years 'til I got my life together. Then I decided I'd start givin' back some...maybe set an example for kids now. I'm gonna start workin' at the school out here, High School #259. Might make a difference there..."
Kevin's former jubilance was slowly dulled down at the true weight of his words, the facts behind them and his purpose; Kevin had silently left Manhattan with his father to basically start a bloodbath all the way to find his mother. He stayed with his mom after finding her (and subsequently losing his father to the mission), and now he was back on possibly another war.
And to make matters worse, Kevin was still scared not only of the risk of failure, but at the honest concern that he would do something irreversible, that he wouldn't be able to live with. Call it crazy, but it was like he felt it at the far reaches of his spirit...something was going to go foul here. Yet, he had little choice. It was either accept the job or go back to prison.
He looked away from Kyr, taking a deep breath through his nostrils before inhaling. "...Hope I can do some good for once."
